Gorr reached it first.

Yeah, there’s some questionable writing and pacing but overall, I had a blast. I’d go see it again. Same! I actually enjoyed the film and look forward to watching again once it hits Disney+.

BNF91 Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 I think this will be scraping $700-750M when all is said and done.
manwhore Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Marvel Disney really is floppy. The time traveler one was meh I fell asleep during movie and now this. It was so mediocre meh. The gay stuff didn’t even flow right and was just forced. I can see why no one was here for it. IT was harmless but cringe. Idk again it was tacky and inorganic to force the gay moms gay stuff lol
Symmetra Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 I wonder how eternity is going to live considering chthon poisoned him with his presence.
MonsterJohn Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 not surprise this sucks, mavel comedy elements are always so cringy Idk why they decided to make a whole movie focus on that
Gorjesspazze9 Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Thor is now in the top 10 biggest movies of the year in just one week as it passes $400 before it’s second weekend.

Guest Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 I agree with grace that a longer version of this film could actually boost it, you can tell there's a lot of scenes that were cut in the movie. I guess it depends on how it's going to perform in the following weeks
BNF91 Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Wednesday gross was under $9M (8.92). Thursday will likely be around $8M. Pretty floppy for a $144M opener in it first week in the middle of summer. Coming for a 70% drop this weekend. Let's hope this can get to $320M tbh.
Relampago. Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 It really wasn’t all that good, but it does seem like how bad it was is being exaggerated. It was a perfectly enjoyable film, just not to Marvel’s best standards. That scene with naked Thor though, whew. Come on now.

Donquizote Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Despite all the newcomers, Thor: Love and Thunder will top the charts in its second weekend. Even with a large drop a la Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ 67% weekend two decline, we’re still looking at a $45+ million weekend for the MCU film, following its $144 million opening. Notably, Thor 4’s weekday numbers are holding up better than Doctor Strange 2’s. While Multiverse of Madness opened 30% better than Love and Thunder, the first Mondays were off by a much smaller degree, with Strange 2 ahead by just 11%. Thor 4’s $13.7 million grossing first Tuesday actually beat Strange 2’s $12.6 million first Tuesday, so it won’t be a surprise if the weekday trend keeps up and Thor 4 holds better than the previous (very front-loaded) MCU release. Both films received the same B+ CinemaScore and similar reviews (74% on Rotten Tomatoes for Strange 2, 67% for Thor 4). https://www.boxofficemojo.com/article/ed3111191556/?ref_=bo_hm_hp Words of mouth won't be kind. The movie was so bad.
Gorjesspazze9 Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Thor Love & Thunder will become a top 5 biggest movie of the year in just 2 weeks of release and people still calling this a flop???it’s Multiverse of Madness all over Again. The MCU will have multiple top grossing films of the year for another year straight
Robert Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 I actually thought this movie was really fun and maybe my favourite Thor movie. Never got the hype for Ragnarok, second one was terrible and first was cute but hasn’t really held up well.

Even Spider-Man probably would have made $2.5bn+ pre-covid.

The movie was so bad. Lol what is that comparison.. they are comparing DS2 May weekdays (kids in school) to Thor's July weekdays (kids not in school), terrible. They should be comparing with Spiderman Homecoming as it released on the same weekend. Either way the legs right now are a flop. Down to $8.1M on Thursday now. With standard July wknd jumps, the 2nd weekend will be between $41-45M. Then it loses IMAX and PLF screens to Nope this coming Thursday, so another big drop in store for weekend 3. A $700-750M global total is definitely not what Marvel was hoping for, especially with $250M production budget and the usual $100M in marketing. Even if you removed China's gross from Ragnarok, I fear Love and Thunder wont even reach that, or only just. Also, the effect of Covid on box office is largely over, been since early June. Marvel stans will just have to deal. Edited July 15, 2022 by BNF91

If ATRL could call BTW and 30 albums as flop, by the same logic the same should be applied here. I don't understand the logic that the movie is doing well without China. The fact that Joker and Top Gun managed to gross more than 1 billion without China indicates that the movie will do well above 1 billion without China if the quality is there. Yeah it was quite clear that prerelease expectations for both DS2 and Thor 4 were to clear 1B with relative ease (regardless of what ATRL thought, the industry very much was aiming for 1B+). But they are not seeing the longevity that MCU tentpoles once enjoyed (aka WOM, repeat views, etc all trending down), but now stuck in a very fan-driven box office run where large debuts are followed by Twilight/Harry Potter level drops after weekend 1 as GP interest diminishes. The increases off the Endgame hype just have not materialized.
Gorjesspazze9 Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Imagine thinking Thor Love and Thunder was gonna easily pass 1 billion, especially in its first 2 weeks?? Wtf are y’all talking about. We officially enter the delusional age where every Marvel film is suppose to clear 1 billion??? What expectations are y’all talking about. Comparing a Fourth install of Thor to Endgame can’t y’all just accept the fact that this is outperforming its competitors and it’s own Previous Films. The Marvel Success really got y’all going insane.

The Marvel Success really got y’all going insane. Who said anything about passing in its first two weeks? I'm talking about the final total gross. Nobody said a word about "every Marvel film needing to cross 1B". These past two films were marquee MCU features that had prerelase expectations obviously higher than the likes of Eternals, Shang-Chi, etc. Two key Avengers returning to their respective solo films after Endgame grossed nearly $3B. You need to read again because I'm also not comparing them to Endgame either. You're so worked up that you're not even comprehending what's being discussed.. Love and Thunder has already written its trajectory and it's range of $700-800M is not an increase from Ragnarok. Look at the CinemaScores, like its objectively a bit divisive and if you actually knew anything about box office runs you would realize that dropping to $8M opening Thursday after a near $150M opening weekend is not good. Like, chill. Ya'll start freaking out if anyone doesn't sing the praises of the MCU. I'm gonna stop giving numbers/analysis on these films because it's so irritating getting in arguments over objective numbers/data with fragile stans.
