No top grossing film has won Best Picture since Lord of the Rings Has a shot at Best Director but even then the same issues above. The main issue is that it's not close to being worthy of a BP win. I liked it, planning my 3rd watch, but at best it should only sweep the technicals.

BNF91 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 (edited) That $7M Thursday early estimate is going to go up apparently.. might even slightly increase from Wednesday. Insanity. If that holds, then we are looking at a $42-48M weekend, either 3rd or 2nd biggest of all-time. With M3GAN finding success this weekend with a $20-25M+ opening, and Puss in Boots likely headed for an incredible hold at $12-14M, it looks like January box office is off to a solid start. BNF91 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 My estimated totals by Sunday Domestic- $514M (off a $42-45M weekend) Overseas- $1.2B (off a $120-125M weekend) Global by Sunday- $1.714B

mystery Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 I am thinking 38-42m US weekend and above 100m international.
Zerocoke Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 $6.75M early estimates from Charlie. A x6-7 multiplier for the weekend takes it to $40-47M. Hopefully it manages to reach the higher end of that number. My predictions: Friday: $12.5M (+85% vs. THU) Saturday: $19M Sunday: $13M Total Weekend: $44.5M
SmashingMiley Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 (edited) I’m thinking of rewatching this for the 3rd time in IMAX 3D. The first two times i could only book third row from the front which is a little bit too close to the screen and my field of vision didn’t cover the entire width of screen. So i’m asking for advice here: the “middle middle” seat (exact middle front to back, left to right) or the 2/3rd middle seat from the screen. Which one is worth it? mystery Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 (edited) Will be rewatching this for sure in the next few days! Wanted to go today but the cinema is fully booked... Edited January 6, 2023 by mystery
Bloodflowers. Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 so much winning, ughhh poor obsessed GODvatar haterz
BNF91 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 First day I'm a little disappointed in the numbers. With everything saying the number was tracking for $7M+. Still a great number. M3GAN is overperforming, I imagine it's solid previews might have done a small bit on A2's Thursday. But A2 should still win the weekend. It will be good to have multiple movies smashing, the cinemas need it badly.
BNF91 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 $22M OS Thursday. Bit lower than I was expecting. Goes to show how high my expectations are though, because a $22M 3rd Thu is stellar still. Previous grosses were just in the stratosphere. $1.075B OS total. With $471M Domestic, the global total going into the weekend is $1.546B. Anywhere from $1.69-1.71B by Sunday.
BNF91 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Bit better for both numbers now. $6.8M domestic and $23.4M OS Thursday.

Sharapov Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Good for this movie smashing but I think 3 will actually underperform, this movie was basically like avatar 1 2.0 so i wonder what they'll do with part 3...

Donquizote Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 People will always continue to underestimate Cameron even though he has already proven them wrong three times I think once they release Avatar 3, people will think it will underperform but I think Cameron will prove them wrong again
