I saw a few TikTok’s recently of old RHOBH and how they used to actually be filthy rich like Adrienne Malloy and Lisa V.

i think that’s kinda why the franchise as a whole seems to have fallen off. Housewife is supposed to give viewers a fantasy of your wealth, class, etc.

Who wants to watch middle class people or barely rich and in modest homes people just fight all day about stupid stuff.

that’s when I used to still watch this branch. It was just so mesmerizing the way it was filmed, like you felt so ******* poor watching them, and the way they talked…it was just so expensive. just totally went downhill the minute that fake pop star with old husband came on the show.

But it's still giving opulence, but the ones you are mentioning were really showing off their wealth.

I think Kyle, Crystal, and Sutton are really rich. That's why I loved Kathy on the show; she was RICHHH. The rest are just trying to keep up.

A show with only extremely wealthy people would be boring. They have too much to lose, and I don't think true wealth wants to associate with Bravo. Bravo thrives on cheating scandals and court cases.

That's true they've sort of dug their own hole with how they treated past housewives who have no monetary need to be on the show. But still, no one wants to watch if Housewives is their main "bag" which is does seem to be for some. I'd watch it again if it didn't feel like just a collection of random women in cities with no wealth requirements

Right its why BH was my favorite franchise until the drama became too fabricated. That ******* Teddy dog fiasco dragging on an entire season was DREADFUL :deadbanana2:

But yeah, way I miss the show just being rich AF with rich people problems (addicts, alcoholics, cheating, etc.) but money not being one:rip:

I miss this drama. There was maybe one "lower" class person like Brandi who had no class to stir things up but now it seems like most :rip:

Actually Erika was giving as much as opulence as LVP/Adrienne on her 1st season. Lisa Rinna was the one who made the show ****** cheap and trashy

Dorit is going down bad

These SLC girls are always fighting and I live! Jennie finally bringing something. Lisa is getting on my nerves. Never a dull episode with these ladies :bibliahh:

Random but I kinda hope Erika forms an alliance with Sutton and Garcelle. She seems to be getting on with them better and I actually think the dynamic between the three of them is interesting. Especially now that fab five or whatever has weakened. Rinna is gone, Dorit is a joke, and Kyle doesn’t give a ****. Erika should switch sides

I think the reason why old BH was so good wasn’t because they were actually extremely rich (they weren’t), it was because the entire premise was the facade of the perfect American life, while the show actually exposed the darkness and scummy side of that wealth.

Taylor was showing off with extravagant parties while being abused at home

Camille tried to put herself above the rest even though she ****** her way to the top and was being cheated on

Kyle and Kim were faded child stars grasping onto a family name and struggling with addiction

Adrienne was a casino and hotel owner (but not really)

LVP was always hanging around with shady grifters like Cedric, and is still to this day selling stories about her ‘friends’, committing insurance fraud with her restaurants, and not paying taxes OR the employees that Ken abuses

These aren’t even considering the cast of side characters like Faye, Dana and Camille’s friends :priceless:

They weren't billionaires or anything by any means but they were certainly more wealthy than the current cast and actually felt it. But yes, as I said before, the appeal of the original series was that it was rich people with struggles and legitimate drama dealing with the husband affairs, addiction, abuse, etc.

None of this "You stepped on my toe at the city hall gala" that drags on for an entire season crap the show has turned into.

Reality tv has evolved in general.

- We see reality TV through a different lens now. We can spot staged scenes and inauthenticity sooner.

- There are soooo many reality tv shows now. A lot of storylines has been played out.

- Also, people get on reality TV for different reasons now. They want to become a brand. The BH OGs didn't know what was waiting for them.

I don't think reality tv, like the old days, can be replicated. There has been a shift, cancel culture is one of them. You can't be unfiltered anymore.

Also, Jen Shah, Erika Jayne, Taylor Armstrong and Scandoval have set the bar high in terms of the level of drama.

I cringe when I watch early RHOA/RHONJ seasons. So much of that **** was obviously planted by producers

I feel like current RHOM is the evolution of old RHOBH. There is a lot of wealth porn, the women genuinely like each other and live very interesting lives

Very true.

I've always believed that the next step in Bravo, or Reality TV in general, is to flip 'reality' on the stars. The REAL reality happens AFTER the edited version that is pushed to be consumed by us. Like, think of every scene that we see. Every dinner table setting. Image what is being said and how people act when they know the 'scene' is done. The cameras stay rolling, but producers and editors almost never give us that. They give us the more watered down, 'acceptable' and 'politically correct' version of reality.

Imagine a season where production and editing flips it on them and the season is a giant expose on these women with their REAL reality. They could brand it The REAL Real Housewives of...

That is interesting take. Never looked at it that way.

That is why the last season of Vanderpumpwas was so good. It was so raw and they didn't have time to plot a campaign or think about their lines....

Not you stepped on my toes at the city hall gala

lmaooooo

that’s so accurate tho. The drama rn is utterly fabricated

If you guys want opulence, I definitely recommend the real houseicons of Melbourne. It definitely has the luxury aspect (at least to me) and it's super entertaining and messy from season 2 onward.

i don’t have time to properly get into it or defend my take (that would still be misconstrued) but suffice it to say i’m team Dorit in all of this. Garcelle and Sutton are the absolute f*cking pits.

Erika is winning me over this season tho

You don't think there was a difference between the way Erika and Dorit brought up the kissing of the driver?

i don’t think Sutton’s response to that was productive ... Dorit was just clocking in for her shift as a HOUSEWIFE. then Sutton did the exact same drunken unhinged $h!t that she did with Kyle. it’s not even an entertaining way to shut someone down it’s just annoying and p*ssy.

Dorit 100% shouldn’t have used the word attack , as she often does like to say but in that sense there was no intended malice behind it (and i understand intent isn’t as consequential when dealing with systemic racist tropes/language) but my issue with how Garcelle shut her down is that Dorit actually does treat Garcelle like she wants to be friends , even if just for the sake for the show, and Garcelle SAYS she does and then treats Dorit horribly at every turn, mainly saves it for the confessionals tho cuz that’s where she likes to run her mouth the most. at least Dorit has the wherewithal to bring $h!t up in person .. and i take Garcelle’s point about not having to educate white people , but when it’s someone that you ALLEGEDLY consider a friend and, for Dorit’s part, tries to consider you one, i believe you can make an allowance to properly educate your “friends”. but Garcelle wanted another grandstanding moment to repeat some SJW $h!t she learned from online twitter discourse. Erika’s response/explanation was very measured but then again she’s very calculated and methinks is just trying to cozy up to Garcelle cuz she knows that’s what will earn her goodwill with the online stans

to top all that off, Dorit continues to do her job by driving conversations and they try to shut her down so i completely understood when she got her ass up and said “well if none of y’all wanna do ur job i’m just gonna go and be with my family!” I AM NOT EVEN A DORIT STAN LIKE THIS ! but i feel crazy watching this season where the fan base seems so intent on wanting to root for the most boring /unchallenged housewives and $h!ts on the people that are trying to be the most real ! like are y’all really gonna sit here and say that any part of this season has been made entertaining by Garcelle ? and im convinced y’all only get your kicks from Sutton bc most people despise Kyle so much and Kyle has done MUCH better at whacking that ass than Sutton has who can’t ever bring $h!t up directly. big loser energy.

Well Miami exists and they are probably the wealthiest of all HWs ever

This, and, ironically, they're the lowest rated HW show. If people want wealth and opulence, they need to watch Miami.

And I really don’t understand why. It is constantly proving itself to be one of the best, if not THE best, out of all the HWs. They bring opulence, drama, FUN, actual friendship, diversity, intelligence, beautiful locations and scenery, literally anything we could ask for but it’s flopping with the ratings.
