skankle Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Rewatched the ATRL rate SMASH Lake Mungo last night And then next weekend I'm going to see the ATRL rate BOMB, Mulholland Drive in the cinema The contrast that will be! And finally going to subject myself to The Hack Phone tonight. Hated the trailer so let's see how it goes
skankle Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Well I didn't hate it but The Hack Phone was certainly not good. A win for @Reverse Warholian!
fridayteenage Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 good reviews for pearl so far: https://www.metacritic.com/movie/pearl-2022/critic-reviews esp 100 The GuardianPeter BradshawSep 3, 2022 The film itself is terrifically accomplished and horribly gripping, with golden-age movie pastiche and dashes of Psycho and The Wizard of Oz. Read full review 93 William BibbianiSep 3, 2022 Pearl isn’t just great; it retroactively makes its predecessor great, too. It’s a handsome and sad horror drama, with scenes and shots and performances that will make you wonder if you’re supposed to laugh, cry or shriek. Until you realize that the best part of this film is that you are absolutely supposed to do all three. And you probably will. Read full review
Bhabylon Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 The Black Phone was so bad Corny writing, bad dialogue, bad acting, predictable Idk why people liked it
GeeDuval Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Watched MEN and ummmm disgusting and weird don’t know how it has 69% on rotten tomatoes. gonna give X a try next after reading about it.
ZORBIT Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Maybe because I’m three sheets in the wind but wtf is Titane’s direction 30 minutes in like y’all really stan this - So after finishing it, not this peaking after the first half hour. The Taste is questionable here
Bhabylon Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Smile looks like… a choice. The teaser trailer is going to be better than the final movie me thinks

Would've done the same, bestie.

The Witch Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 So Ms @Reverse Warholian has a letterboxd account but doesn't wanna post it in here uh? @mellenthin @Walk_Away21

But only because I'm sick with flu)

xrosup Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Nope was excellent. Quite slow at the beginning but when things were started to get going, I was all in. The blood rain scene got me tiny bit scared They/Them was so bad; I haven't seen a movie so terrible in a long time. I can't think of anything redeemable about it Hansel and Gretel (2020) was quite mediocre too

Summerboy95 Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Yesterday I watched Martyrs (2008) for the first time and let me say it was one of the most disturbing, if not the most disturbing, movie I've ever seen. Principally the second part, damn that was hard to watch... I felt so powerless and left a bitter taste in my mouth. It felt incredible but in a kinda bad way and for me it has no replay value at all (even tho I feel """""lucky"""" to have had the opportunity to watch it).
harwee Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Saw The Rental 7/10. I thought it was a solid horror/slasher. Would like to see a sequel!

skankle Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Lake MunGOD is a certified cult classic at this point with a tangible and significant impact on the wider genre and endless relevance thanks to its tiktok virality every few months. The Hack Phone is a quick lil throwaway flick desperately trying to ape IT and Stranger Things kiddie hype that will be completely forgotten next year. These two are not the same. (and Eden Lake will only be remarked upon as one of the most violently classist films in all of british history fwiw)
