The Advent Calendar it is. 😅 I have The Outwaters next after TAC, is it any good? I wouldn’t rewatch The Outwaters, but the creepy atmosphere is actually getting proper horror tone as the movie builds up. It doesn’t contain any concrete story, it is all about setting eerie mood which gets more sinister with time ( something like Skinamarink ). You should also consider it is found footage sub-genre and has got a bit of a vibe of V/H/S shorts, so if that would interest you, go for it. Edited October 11, 2023 by Lemon
Lemon Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 I have a bit of a catch up to do with this list, but it won’t help Enemy slumping down either way.

lillavend3r Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 And then Tusk knocks Hereditary and Pearl off of #1 then what?
Miles. Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 I'm shocked and horrified to see that TUSK - one of the worst movies of all time - is an A24 work. How in the hell...
SitarHero Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Can everyone actually WATCH In Fabric unlike the 10s rate? 1

SchmoodRing Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 Um currently watching Appendage and yikes. This is really disturbing. My laptop even acted up and I had to shut it down. Always here for more original work.
Leptine Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 Payola for another masterpiece. @The Witch 2 1

The academy award winning Ex Machina is the best film on that list by a country mile but the "true horror!!!!1" puritans will smother its chances, I fear. Edited October 12, 2023 by Reverse Warholian

Reverse Warholian Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 Overrated films that while GOOD still deserve to be shitlisted: Climax, Under The Skin, Midsommar. Agree? @mellenthin Spoiler Might also trash Talk To Me since it has recency bias working for it. @skankle 1

UTS was kind of cute iirc, but for some reason I forgot to rate it on letterboxd so I can't say for certain. Midsommar is still a bop; a bop I will probably never rewatch though. T2M has some incredible moments, but falls flat to a pretty generic execution in the end. Definitely overrated. However, nothing better was really released this year, so it has that going for it.

Atmosphere of the isolated hotel location and score are definitely horror-esque enough, but maybe more in a vein of thriller slow-burn drama.
Uncatena Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 none of the sources I used for the list had The Eternal Daughter or Into the Forest as horror or thriller, but feel free to rank them!
