The way some critics lick Nolan’s ass and say everything he releases is a masterpiece/his best movie ever/the best of the year are FAR MORE CRINGE than Grace for being honest about some of his shortcomings.

I would say I agree but saying it was necessary to recreate the Hiroshima bombings was just untasteful. She can't accept that Oppenheimer is a biopic about J. Robert Oppenheimer instead of being about WW2 and needs to be spoon fed EVERYTHING. She lacks object permanence like a baby. There's a constant air of unwillingness to accept the directors vision for her when it doesn't align with a positive outlook. I think a lot of it stems from her reverence for comic books where a good person usually wins at the end of the day and she applies that principal to films that are literal historical dramas (Dunkirk, Oppenheimer). Idk it just comes off as really weird to me to claim to be an open minded film critic and objective and so clearly have your biases toward anything thats substantially representative of the human condition outside of being overtly positive.

this is spot on.. you take her off The Flash or a Transformer movie and it's like she doesn't have the capacity (or willingness) to understand and process it.

which I get is the reason why we stan sarcastically in some way, but it's also infuriating for a movie "critic" with completely ingnorant commentary to have such a huge platform. sometimes I wish she would stick to Disney and comic book movies forever so that we don't get attacked by her awful takes anymore

Like I personally enjoy her absurdist takes bc they're usually outrageous, but lamenting the "source material" and then skulldragging Mario without doing ANY research was plainly stupid considering you could make the same critique on like any modern Comicbook film. She doesn't enjoy arthouse films or projects and pretends to cover them "objectively" when the reality is she just uses them on movie math to drag certain studios and then gets gagged when one breaks out. Like EEAAO last year where she clearly hated it, called several of the actors bad, and suddenly switched when the Oscar noms came out. She's much better at the comicbook/family film/action film coverage than she is at narrative driven projects.

She probably liked Barbie so much because it was clearly in her alley and was one of the first attempts at an interesting IP film in years. On that token tho, her takes regarding feminism are extremely weird and give pick-me energy at points. Tearing down Margot Robbie for YEARS only to sing her praises when the film does well was odd. Her Jessica Chastain feud is extremely odd. Her calling the new Superman actress old and then suddenly praising the casting a week later. It's an inconsistency of her principles that she doesn't give to male actors. And then Barbie releases and, because its a white feminist film, she suddenly champions women and all actresses? I would love for her to just stand on her own ground regarding her opinion and fight for it instead of flip flopping CONSTANTLY.

Her body is kinda serving Liberation instead of Lotus. She must have been fasting for that Barbie body to get ready for the movie.

“Sooooooo… The far right are going to the theater in DROVES to combat BarbieMania. But is Christopher Nolan going to be content with this one weekend of support from that group while Barbie absolutely demolished it at the box office?! I think not.”
