GraceRandolph Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Sotomayor better retire. Enough playing around. Dems just never learn a ******* lesson. 1
Kassi Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Unfortunately if they prioritized material politics they'd have to stan Nancy Pelosi instead of being deceived by do-nothing losers like Fetterman, AOC, and Bernie. They'll just end up clinging to the next new shiny "progressive" item, I fear. 1 1
ClashAndBurn Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Realistically, the Democrats may never hold the Senate again, even if Biden wins. Especially if Fetterman ends up switching parties, which seems to be looking more and more like a possibility given his ideological commitment to Israel. Sotomayor is making the dumbest, most selfish decision possible. RBG 2.0

And assuming Fetterman is switching parties cause of Israel is also wild 💀 1
Wonderland Posted April 6 Posted April 6 I don't get why Democrats are melting down over a seat on a 6-3 court anyway. It's GONE. 1

Manchin is gone and Ossoff is most definitely cooked without Warnock on the ballot to carry him over the finish line. They can't flip any of the red "swing" seats there are, and they're in serious danger of losing multiple seats this cycle in a Presidential election year. They're too interested in spending donor cash on insurmountable Republican seats held by Senators like Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham. Fetterman's behavior on Israel has been completely erratic and he's definitely been outspoken on his view that Biden hasn't been pro-Israel enough when they've gotten unconditioned aid shipped to them by literally and illegally circumventing Congress to do so. It's... not that wild of a take to think that Fetterman might make a hard break to the right if he feels like Biden isn't backing the genocide hard enough. 1

It's GONE. 7-2 is infinitely worse, and makes a future flip that much more unlikely. Sotomayor holding onto her seat when she might not get to be replaced by a Democrat President AND Senate for a minimum of 12 years is complete hubris. Let's assume Biden wins the Presidency this year. That likely means 8 years of a Republican president after him, because Harris-Buttigieg is dead on arrival, but that's what the Dems are inevitably rolling with.

But do you not see the cognitive dissonance between these two posts? If you truly believe the senate is lost from 2026 then you're admitting the 6-3 majority is already entrenched and therefore the Sotomayor seat doesn't matter. You should also be going after Elena Kagan with your logic, as she will be 77 (7 years older than Sotomayor is now) before Democrats even have a remote chance of safely replacing her seat. The only way Democrats win a balanced court back is through court reform - that's the sad truth. 3

Joe Biden opposes this approach, as well as reforming the filibuster, so the only way anything like that will ever get done is if there are ever 60 democrat senators. Which, there will never be. So court reform is off the table, as is anything resembling meaningful change. 1

Gwendolyn Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Not active here; I learnt about Project 2025 a few days ago and I'm horrified. If this happens the repercussions for the entire world will be massive. The far-right has been rising in Europe for the past year so it will give them even more ammo to rewrite democracy. Are there no better candidates compared to Biden or Trump?
