I literally told my husband that anything we put in the market this year for our 401ks is just going to cause use to break even as long as he doesn't tank it more than 30%. If it's past 30% well, at least we have 35 years till we can allegedly retire. 🥲

(whose kidding, no one will be able to retire in 35 years).

This drop is nothing. We had a bigger single day drop in the DOW just this past December. I think the market still doesn't believe Trump. A lot of people are waiting for him to call off the tariffs again so they'll have bought cheap stocks that they can sell for big profits when the markets shoot back up. Part of me thinks this is Trump's whole strategy to begin with.

is it bad that I don't care about my 401k because I know somewhere there's a trump support flipping his desk over and screaming at the losses and it gives me a natural high just thinking about it. I've lost like 2k since January I'm just like oh well as long as trumpie is losing too I'm good.

It's not as bad because there are people pumping up certain stocks. I think people only sold certain of their holdings, and the tech bros are "buying the dip." Which is what is stabilizing everything.

Honestly, if this last, we are going to see a lot of severe bankrupted people who took Buffet's "buy when everyone else is scared" advice too literally. Like even buffet is not buying and hoarding cash, so why are so many individual investors buying single stocks rn.

Stocks are one thing, but this will already cause massive disruption in the American people's lives.

Prices are not going down. The chances of that happening already were pretty much nonexistent, but now…

They were always conservative loons, they just had to keep it reigned in because they didn't want to affect their companies. Now that Trump's in power, they can be outwardly lunatics. I can guarantee these companies coming out as MAGA have HR department heads on suicide watch because of all of this. It's a bunch of CEOs who won't listen to the experts telling them this is a bad idea. The only reason the CEO of my company stopped sending out emails telling people to support Trump was because our new lawyer told the CEO he could be sued now that the company is an ESOP and he's no longer the owner, just a CEO lol.

We will soon see how serious a lot of these GOP members are when it comes to their dedication to Trump. Will they let him ruin their chances of re-election?

Ewwww I would throw up if the owner of my company sent an email saying to support Trump. The management at my job are all conservative and openly celebrated his win the day after and the Puerto Rican HR was nodding along. I don't look at anyone the same anymore. However, I cackled during the final day of black history month corporate sent an email celebrating Kamala Harris for being the first black VP. Guess there's a little bit of hope.

Yeah. Something about the market disruption feels intentional. And every time the market dips, that's also a buying opportunity.

Yeah the tech bros refuse to let anyone short Tesla, despite how overvalued it is and all the efforts the past few years :rip: It's barely down at all today. I also think there is the pervasive mentality "do the opposite of what's expected, so buy the bad news".

I'm just wondering if/when tariffs on Canada and Mexico will come. Now THAT would be immediate disruption at the grocery store! But it's why I'm doubtful those will ever happen or if they do happen that they'll last.

I genuinely never liked their food. I think I've been there twice in my life. I hope others start to boycott them en masse. Ultimately, withholding our dollars is one of the most powerful tools available to us all.

Not sure if social media algorithms are forever screwed but I feel like we don't have a source to go to that dictates who to boycott and when it starts. I feel like you have to be chronically online to even be aware of them besides the Target one. Unfortunately a lot of people are too complacent. My Mom was talking about how it's convenient and she'll continue shopping on Amazon. How did we get to a point where monopolies are no longer investigated by the government? People feel like they don't have options without target/walmart/amazon.

The whole MAGA talking point during all this is "there will be some pain, but there will be gain in the long run" :deadbanana2: It makes me SCREAM when it doesn't have to be a pain to begin with. We went through a pandemic 5 years ago and things were slowly getting better and here Trump and company comes with a sledgehammer. It makes zero sense. And don't get me started on the Republicans in congress clapping and dancing for all this when they're on tape saying these tariff plans are AWFUL and will kill the economy.

Unfortunately when it comes to selfish racist white people this is the only way to snap them out of the maga cult…for  it to hit them where nothing else matters, their wallets.

It's April 2nd. Kamala Harris is President. Today the White House had an event for preteen girls to get into STEM that literally no one watched. SPY is 700.

Honestly, at this point they're so deep in the cult I don't think anything would snap them out of it. They will just blame someone else. Trump could be holding the matches and gas burning their house in front of them while yelling "Joe Biden and the Deomcrats did this" and they'd be screaming about they lost their house and money because of Joe Biden, George Soros, and AOC. :rip: They're so deep in the propaganda machine that common sense is long gone.

I understand your feeling, but also it's just sad to see how Americans have been raised to believe that this trickle down economics, where people are harshly divided to winners and losers, is somehow the best system available. And instead of blaming the system, people just blame each other. And if we are honest, Kamala Harris most likely would not have changed the system either. Bernie Sanders is the only person who has been pointing out the flaws  in the system for decades, but although now other people are waking up to it, he's probably too old to run again. And it just proves that you can have 100 people in a room, but only one of them is correct. And for most of his career that's what Bernie was, alone but correct.
