Hex Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I know Meta is making people auto follow the @VP and @POTUS accounts but I have a friend I've been side eyeing politics-wise that I noticed just started following @realdonaldtrump which is NOT linked to @POTUS so I'm trying to figure out if it was deliberate or not... signs pointing to yes meaning I've lost a friend Worst part is it's her birthday this weekend and I'm gonna have to grit my teeth through it before I ghost/confront (not sure which route to take yet... I have very little energy or patience left) 1

Relampago. Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Assuming the Supreme Court decides against birthright citizenship, that's probably the most terrifying thing facing us right now. Unlike Roe v. Wade, birthright citizenship is pretty much unambiguous and has been ruled on multiple times in multiple contexts. If they flip the precedent now, that's basically opening the flood gates for pretty much anything else to be overturned. A disaster. I do have faith that it'll stand though, and it'll hopefully be another one of Trump's big failures.
RihRihGirrrl Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Ugh I am already tired....I truly had hope that Americans wouldn't want to go back to the chaos and hatred

US constitution does seem clear on this, though with the Supreme Court as it is at present who knows. The Americas in general are mostly, I believe, "jus solis" countries whereas a large majority of Europe, Africa, and Asia are mainly "jus sanguinis" ie the location of your birth is not really relevant it's who your parents ( or in some cases grandparents ) were that counts. Some are a mix like Ireland which grants citizenship by right of birth place as well descent. The U.K. moved from automatic citizenship on birth location to ancestry in 1982, and ( irony?) the current leader of the UK's Conservative Party Kemi Badanoch, born in the U.K. of Nigerian parents was a late beneficiary of the previous system being born in 1980. If she'd been born two years later she wouldn't be British. Edited 9 hours ago by Vermouth 1
Relampago. Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I work for a pharma marketing company (don't lash me I need a job!) and I'm kinda here for RFK shaking up and destroying our industry nn That being said, he's obviously dangerous and unqualified. I'll be surprised if he gets in.

That's what I'm saying Here in the South I see so many Make America Healthy Again bumper stickers and I'm always like, "You people better be the most in shape, healthiest looking mfers I've ever seen." Don't blame the government because you can't put down the chips and cookies. Or alcohol, which they conveniently forget is a toxin. My hair lady is on the RFK bandwagon too when her boyfriend is still addicted to meth, like mama let's prioritize 5

The, uh, interesting implication is that if it applies retroactively, Kamala Harris probably doesn't lose her citizenship due to being married to Doug, but… she becomes ineligible to run for president. However that probably doesn't become litigated unless she runs for the presidency in 2028 and liberals are stupid enough to re-nominate her. SCOTUS finding her ineligible to run right before the election would be the nightmare scenario. 2
