DevilsRollTheDice Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) I have two takeaways from this. 1.) Democrats and the left in general have embraced widely unpopular stances on social issues (especially trans issues) that have likely lead to more intense backlash regarding the issues as a whole AND 2.) this further proves that the misinformation environment about what policies Dems were actually running on during this campaign is a major problem. ย Kinda a perfect storm. In the last four years, there was enough of Democrats taking public stances that felt illogical and extreme to many people for Republicans and their surrogates to convince people that Dems were even more extreme than reality. You cannot convince me as more and more data comes out that this aspect of the left and the party doesn't need serious reflection, but we also need to to stay focused on the information environment and how effectively Republicans use unpopular Dem positions against them. ย Edited 1 hour ago by DevilsRollTheDice
Vermillion Posted 26 minutes ago Posted 26 minutes ago The dynamic I worried about three years ago is that the UK's political system, which seems to now be defined almostย entirely about trans boogeymen and no other cultural or economic matter (other than migration), would transition then reach saturation point here. With the help of Chris Rufo and Chaya Raichik, the latter's imho finally come to pass. ย Suicidal ideation is acted upon in greater numbers if trans kids have to go through puberty without hormone blockers prior to its start. ย The American public is not accepting the idea that minors are capable of coming to that realization prior to the onset of said puberty and thus don't want them to have that ability. ย Thus, the underlying tension. ย I'm not sure where to start with this but the high school and collegiate sports issue was clearly the opening in polling (despite being less than 20 cases nationwide) where conservative activists got mileage out of millimeters towards bending public will on bigger trans issues, despite being less than 2% (by some larger estimates) of the American populous as a whole. ย Beshear needs to stop being propped up as the man "walking the tightrope" on this issue in Appalachia to prevent the future Rahm Emanuels of the world from throwing trans kids under the bus. The former's being given goodwill as the son of a prior Governor that won't carry over to whoever runs the state next. ย Trans kids are going to continue being born and wanting treatment prior to puberty no matter what SCOTUS rules in June and the party would best be served targeting the base that stayed home instead of bigoted Latino men that don't know what tariffs are and blase complacent white wine moms that buy into scary Facebook memes, both of whom never bother to do their research on this topic. ย The Cheney implosion proved the case of starting with the base, not the center-right.ย ย If they don't want to budge on Gaza, start on the Covid benefits that were withdrawn.
