If there's anything I can be happy about with Donald's alleged cabinet picks so far, it's that it seems entirely possible that they don't manage to get literally anything actually done because half of them are incompetent.Β
Β

But I won't hold my breath.

Or are delayed by lower court rulings that take forever to reach SCOTUS.

Why does it feel like the pieces are all coming into place for societal collapse in the next 10 yearsΒ :hoetenks:

I swear the conspiracy theorist in me feels like Trump was always supposed to win this election in order to permanently destabilize the country. Plus with Elon, the wealthiest man in the world heavily backing him, it definitely gives "New World Order" vibesΒ :hoetenks:

Came in here literally to say this. This is the only thing giving me hope.

Β

Filling your cabinet with people who know nothing and have only ever succeeded by bing lucky or failing upwards is a recipe for disaster. :ahh:Β

How do you figure? Birthright citizenship is in the Constitution. do you think they're going to go after the constitution itself as opposed to specific laws they deem "unconstitutional"?Β  I could be wrong, but SCOTUS cannot change the Constitution, only decide if laws abide by it?

I would like to blindly agree with you for my own sanity but I don't think that will be the case with this second term. I hate Vance as much as the next person but I think we can all agree that JD is quite intelligent. And will ensure their nefarious policies are in fact, enacted. Same with RFK. I think Vance, Elon and Trump will clash a lot in the WH, though. There's a lotΒ be concerned about here. I know you're not implying there isn't but I don't want to write it off as 'oh, they won't get much done'. Esp. with control of the presidency, house and senate. I'm deeply worried about what's to come even though it's out of our hands on what we can do to impede this. I was saying to myself the other day that I hope someone successfully plans an assassination. Or Trump suffers a fatal stroke. Yes, Trump would be dead but the policies would still remain with Vance. Unless we get lucky enough for a 2-for-1 special where they both get taken out together. I don't know what would happen then. I guess Mitch would temporarily step in.Β :deadbanana2:Β

No, it's good to be worried, we should be.

Β

But Trump is very clearly demented at this point and everything that goes on around him does so in an effort to keep him appeased. Appointing all of these complete morons to his cabinet, all of whom have different goals, is a recipe for disaster. Anything they do that causes him to get blowback, is going to make him pissed and people will be replaced over and over again.

Β

Someone like Vance, who I agree is much more competent, will have to play backseat driver while also making sure they never make Trump feel as if they're in control instead. As we know, that's virtually impossible. Vance cannot get anything done unless he takes control, but Trump won't like him taking control. Funnily enough, it is Trump himself who will be the biggest obstacle in all of this.

First, the unwinding of Covid benefits that should have been fought to be installed permanently is anΒ extremelyΒ sound, foundational argument for Kamala's loss, contributing to both the Latino surge as well as Dem base stay-homes. It would have at least been somethingΒ to counteract inflationary forces that neolibs kept arguing desperately that Biden had little to no control over.

Β

Kamala's advisors admitted off the record they were never planning to go after price gouging (and the sourcing on that was already posted here) largely because it would've been struck down by the courts, so this would've been the next best thing.

Β

Second, cultural arguments about the misogyny of Latino men desperate to assimilate to become white so they transfer that desire onto a white strongman (as already posted here in numerous pieces about Tejanos and Cubanos) that pundits desperate for their latest paycheck will pigeon hole into editorials on LatinX and trans kids is a multifaceted argument that will take years to unpack but still is important to start unpackingΒ nowΒ as opposed to later as they hold a lot of keys to our country's future at the moment, at least in terms of more consistent turn-out, no matter who it ends up being for, and even if some of it is misguided.

Β

While unwinding those two tracks is happening, Dem media ecosystem and Dem bench building needs to startΒ now,Β andΒ bothΒ need to start from vastly different premises of built-in quid pro quos of

Β

A) Relying on neolib funding to be forced into still holding onto neolib ideas as with Kamala and the brother-in-law with Uber

Β

B) Relying on neolib sourcing on the Hill to be forced into towing the neolib line despite being a progressive news organization, causing it to almost collapse as with The Intercept so these organizations won't have to rely on ambulance chasing personalities always in fights or turmoil like Briahna or Ana. Sidebar: Some decent lefty pods out there exist outside the centrist stars PSA but no one knows about them - predictably, there'll be fights and goalposts moved on whether they're allowed to be consideredΒ trulyΒ leftist.

**** the Biden admin for even entertaining the idea of a peaceful transition. Complete and total spineless hacks. What the **** is wrong with these people? The same man who put our national security at risk and refused to let his team work with you... you're going to happily work with him? May Biden's brain continue to turn to mush.

I'm starting to think my boss isn't necessarily as racist or as sexist for voting for Trump, as he is delusional. He's placed Trump on this weird savior pedestal and thinks he genuinely cares about the country, that he's going to save the whole world. How can we combat against that when people think he's Jesus reincarnated?
