I just watched Nancy Pelosi's documentary, and the January 6th segment was truly horrifying. I feel like that day has been memory-holed by most Americans because even if Trump's 2024 campaign were absolutely flawless, he should never have been allowed to run again based on that day alone. What is the point of a so-called democracy and a country of law and order if the President can never be criminally punished or politically excommunicated?

I understand that much of the post-election discourse has focused on how Democrats should engage with MAGA Republicans in a way that doesn't demean them, aiming to draw them out of conspiracy theories and rehabilitate them. But how do you even begin to do this? In reality, queer, minority, and progressive citizens are likely the ones who will be pushed under the bus over the next four years to appease these groups. Many moderate and neoliberal Democrats are criticizing progressives for saying that a big reason for their loss is because the country is inherently racist, sexist, and homophobic, calling this critique counterproductive/demeaning. But this is quite literally the truth, and to reach these voters, Democrats will likely have to compromise the rights of minority and oppressed groups. We've seen this before, for example, when someone like Obama only endorsed gay rights near the very end of his presidency.

The way Mehdi clocked here… Democrats are getting up in arms about how poor, working-class white people have been shunned and blamed by the leftists, while these same Democrats have no problem pushing minorities, like queer people and issues, under the bus—despite them being a significant part of the base. :deadbanana4:

Best analysis I've seen! Lol. It's funny, everyone trying to find a reason why Trump won, when it's probably not that deep. But also scary that many people might not know just what they voted for.

Had the displeasure of seeing Matt Yglesias post the words "Bernie was anti-woke in 2016" so just felt the need to share this. :jonny4:

(This poor man has been really screaming "YOU CARE MORE ABOUT HATING GAY PEOPLE THAN MAKING A LIVING???" for over 20 years nfdvjkd :[ )

B*tch, could he try one more time in 2028? Haha. Literally, even the corpse of him would be better than anyone else Dems cam come up with, most likely.

There's a backstory about how Gallego used to be like... less right-wing than he currently is. Definitely not a member-of-the-Squad progressive. He was someone who stuck out for definitely being a centrist yet seemingly also being part of the Progressive caucus. Lots of bad neocon votes due to being ex-military, and wouldn't be many progressives' first picks, but he also co-sponsored onto Medicare For All and ended up getting an endorsement from Our Revolution out of it.

If say Raul is like to Arizona what Barbara Lee is for progressives in California, Gallego's voting record was in-line with someone like Katie Porter. Or probably, if you factor in aesthetic, Adam Schiff ddd.

He then, in preparation to replace Sinema, un-endorsed Medicare For All and started voting much more conservatively.

His voting record for the last House session was in line with people like Ed Case, Tom Suozzi, Josh Gottheimer, the "anti-Progressive" Dems.

Interesting he scooped out people from Bernie World for his senate run. Kinda floating between terrified and interested in what kinda campaign they decided to run.

I saw jokes along the lines of "boxing match viewing parties" in an anti-MGP tweet.

Democrats are going to **** around give 1972/1980/1984/1988 electoral college teas. They think it's impossible, but they probably thought this was too.

Kinda screamed and had my heart drop seeing "woke" used as a snarl term but the actual linked articles are interesting and he is more-so using it to promote himself and his frustration that the consultant class employed by Democrats on voter outreach for minority groups are not from those communities themselves.

Quote
Chuck Rocha, who managed the Bernie Sanders campaign's Latino outreach earlier this year, thinks South Texans' votes are winnable—because he won them. Sanders, who ran to Biden's left, got the highest vote share in most counties in the Rio Grande Valley region in the primary election. Rocha says it was because his campaign talked to South Texans about their issues, not just their identities.

And Tejanos proved far more receptive to a pitch about a rigged economic system and health care than to generic appeals to their Hispanic heritage.

Rocha believes that when it comes to campaigning for Latino votes, it's all about knowing your audience. The Tejanos in the Rio Grande Valley "who wear a cowboy hat and belt buckle and drive their pickup trucks" aren't the same as the "woke Latinos" in Dallas, he says.

https://archive.is/qJ9NW

He ultimately feels like you have to recognize Latino is not a meaningful identifier and need to know what issues are going to be appealing to people based on the intersection of their age and ethnicity. Younger Latinos are going to care deeply about social causes in a way, say, older ones might not, but that both are deeply passionate about the economy.

He also in the below video laughs at how much time and effort Democrats have spent trying to appeal to Cubans:

Doesn't personally seem outraged over "Latinx" or turned reactionary over queer people so I'm interested to see what kinda campaign he had Gallego run. (The "woke white consultants" thing seems him more personally mad at progressive campaigns and Democrats in general again hiring mostly white vendors - he seemed to even beef w/ Justice Dems for a bit in 2022.)

LOVE Malaika. She's exactly the kind of person Dems should've been taking cues from. If only they listened as well as they lectured.

"These are people who are opting out of the electoral process all together. These are non-voters. People decide the Republican Party is not a political home for them even with their frustrations. Black women, black men, Latino women. These are CNAs, Lyft drivers, warehouse workers who do not find a home with Donald Trump and are not drawn to him. Instead of swinging back and forth, they are sliding out. They are sliding out of the process." "Populism doesn't require racism."

Sister, your entire job is to be the DNC's token... tokenized young person, no one gives a single **** about what you think about communism :deadbanana4:
