dawnettakins Posted November 9 Posted November 9 If there's one thing the 2024 election has proven, it's identity politics is well as over and is a losing strategy. Β Most people don't move through the world interacting with others with a hyper-breakdown of their identity categories. People don't conceive of themselves that way, and don't consider their sexual identity, racial identity, gender identity, etc as the most important things to them. Period. Β That's how terminally online people talk on Twitter. The rest of people, and a huge majority of them, just want to put food on the table and have the means to get by. Those on the left, here and Twitter and everywhere else, have got to learn this if they actually want to win. Β Almost no one cares if you're gay, Black, trans, cis, etc. People just want a working economy and to live their lives. To the extent that they do conceive of themselves based on their identity, it's much less salient and important to them than their economic situation. Period.Β 6 5

dawnettakins Posted November 9 Posted November 9 The fact that more women, more people of color, and more Latinos especially voted for Trump just proves this. Β Us on the left will question how they can do that when they're Latino or a woman, and the bottom line is it's because that's just not that important or salient when compared to the fact they can't afford groceries and get all their bills paid even when working 2 ******* jobs! Β I'm about dragged the hell out of now probably for speaking facts, and it just proves how out of touch so many liberals and leftists are. Economics and having the means to survive and get by matter more to people than their social identity categories! 2
Thuggin Posted November 9 Posted November 9 One thing that's clear is we have to stop talking to most of the country who didn't vote for Kamala as if they care about the same things we care about. Character, decency, bigotryβ¦let Trump's comments speak for themselves without clutching pearls or moralizing. And also stop assuming the electorate is more educated than they are. The average American probably doesn't even know what the two institutions of Congress are and who has control of each. They couldn't articulate how a bill becomes law. They don't know how the Supreme Court works and what the split is there. We talk about fascism so much when most people probably only have the faintest idea of what fascism is and how it would affect them. And that's if they don't just see it as exaggeration, having already been through a Trump term once. Β We're not even speaking the same language as most Americans. If you hold certain values and take liberal positions on cultural issues, you're probably already squarely in the Democratic camp. So not a second of oxygen should've been wasted on any of that, even abortion honestly. Especially considering the Rust Belt states already have abortion protections. All signs pointed to this being the economy election. Americans voted with their wallets in mind as they do most elections. I would love to think most Americans are empathetic enough that they see past that to care about other things, but most Americans are not leftists or liberals. They may agree with us on a lot of things, but they're not motivated by the same things we are. 7 2

Beyonnaise Posted November 9 Posted November 9 (edited) It is so funny to me how there's been nothing but establishment Dem infighting since Trump won Β Like have we even heard anything besides Susie Wiles becoming his chief of staff? He's been so quiet, and most of the media attention is going to the Democratic blame game. Β I think it's clear the Dem party internal reckoning is only beginning. The circular firing squad of establishment types will probably continue through the new year. There's definitely going to be such a visible power vacuum after the inauguration when it's clear there's no party figurehead or coherent vision to speak of. Edited November 9 by Beyonnaise 1
