It's actually kinda criminal how most progressive Democratic men are Latino and yet they're largely not even like.. prominent figures.

(Me almost not including Maxwell cause his actions have been giving opp, especially knowing he mainly got elected off of theΒ Sam Bankman-Fried PAC moneyΒ :khalyan2:)

Β

(The way Julian Castro could have probably found his way back into Dem politics after knifing Biden and being proven right this year but he also knifed Bernie on his way out to try and help Warren and basically ensured moderates and progressives will never like him)

Β

(Looking at that "Leftist Congressional Tracker" someone from DSA put together that I linked before, it's also insidious how... much of the progressive black female branch of the Democratic Party that AIPAC has basically bought out and taken control of. Legitimately progressive black women on 80%+ of other issues all huge AIPAC shills..

Β

Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37), Yvette Clarke (NY-09), Nikema Williams (GA-05), Valerie Foushee (NC-04), etc.)

YAAAAAS King Grijalva.

Β

I don't know why people are acting like Latinos are too misogynistic and racist to ever come back to Dems. They literally JUST loved Bernie 4 years ago, and the DNC told them to get ****ed to appease old Black voters located in.. *checks notes* the battleground state of… South Carolina.Β

Β

Obviously I support keeping the Dem base and old Black voters are a solid group, even still, but it's clearly not enough.

They don't have payment plans for your community college? I didn't get any fasfa (lol why did this autocorrect as fadga) and for 5 courses I paid $200 a month for five months. Not too bad.Β

I already work two jobs just to make 50k a year, plus all my living expenses (which are higher because I live alone) I'm going to have to get rid of certain things and reshuffle if it comes to that.

I don't think running a Latino candidate is going to do much to turnout the Latino vote. African-American voters have a much more similar shared experience and history in the US compared to Latinos in the US who have completely divergent experiences and come from so many countries and backgrounds. I just don't think uniting around a Latino candidate would happen like it did for Obama and Kamala in the black community.

gfgbgjfjnkjn I think the massive attacks on the Squad have made even more progressive Dems fear a high profile despite the extra national donations that fame brings.

Β

Even AOC in her last live was like "well, first, my main duty in this time is to the constituents I was elected in to represent...".Β

Β

People representing House districts aren't really supposed to be stars and so even I'm like ???? most of the time.

Β

It is nice though to go through summaries of people's votes and see who is actually taking risks in Congress. Like I don't particularly consider Tina Smith meaningful progressive as a Senator, cause she hasn't co-sponsored M4A, but was shocked to see her be the only other Dem to co-sponsor Markey + Warren's bill to expand the SCOTUS. That's why I included her in the previous list and being in the top half of Dems for progressive votes.

Β

I remember being struck that AOC, for example, didn't attend Rashida and Cori Bush's vigil for Palestinian victims of genocide but like..Β Nydia VelΓ‘zquez (NY-07) and Andre Carson (IN-07) did and the lack of similar attention to either as younger progressive members in the House who more-so utilize social media usually get.

Okay wait some of Eternal Sunshine is kind of applicable to the raw trauma of realizing we're headed for a generation of conservative judges the same way it's applicable to my recent breakup. I kind of see the vision. Playing We Can't Be Friends for the hot guy at work who I suspect voted for Twitler until we one day bring him back with a leftist populist campaignΒ

Β

Ugh this is going to be such a long four years, y'all. It hasn't even actually started and I feel like I've aged a decade in a day.

It's kind of hard because a lot of us have been on there since 2009 and there hasn't really been an adequate replacement. I just made a bluesky account the other day. It seems they finally opened up registration. Hopefully that takes off now that Trump is coming back

Oh no, we can continue the identity politics discussion, but it's needs to be backed up with actual policy.

Β

You can't say "Republicans are going to deport you!" to Latinos while supporting a draconian Immigration Bill that supports separating families. You can't tell Black people "Trump is racist, he hates you!" while supporting police departments equally as much. You can't tell Arab people and Muslims that Trump HATES them, while actively campaigning as Israel's lapdog. None of it works.

Β

And truthfully, I can't speak for other races, but Latinos are tired of solely being tied to immigration. Alot of us have been here for decades now and haven't received a lot of return on investment for that. A lot of us are wondering why our families came here legally but we should advocate for the 10 million illegal border crossings.

Β

And I am absolutely NOT criticizing these immigrants WHATSOEVER. But there is confusion around why people feel they're being advocated for over citizens. That's why I support Bernie's approachβ€” putting a moratorium on deportations until the pathway to citizenship is fixed. I truly don't believe people are *solely* racist and just want all immigrants gone, sure there are a lot of people like that, but others just want to know they're safe and secure and being treated fairly.

Β

It's all a boogeyman argument, but it's so clear to me why Dems are bleeding POC support, especially Latinos. And then watching everyone turn on them and say "wow y'all just wanna be white! Enjoy being deported!".. It's so out of touch. So, so misguided and nasty. Latinos just want to see some results for the hard work they do, Democrats have taken them for granted for far too long, and I wouldn't be shocked if other minority groups feel the exact same.Β

Yeah, I think we're on the same page. It may not be quite as widespread as it is with Arab and Latino communities, but there's definitely a shift in (working-class) Black people too. Often a shift to the couch rather than to the GOP, but either way, a shift away from the Dems. All we ever really get from the party are platitudes, symbolism, and some Black faces in high places. We said "stop the killer cops!" and they...painted some Black Lives Matter murals and gave the cops a raise lol.

Β

We've already seen a couple election cycles with turnout dips for Black men, and now, at least in a few places, there's some modestly-higher numbers going for Trump. If Dems don't change the way they campaign, legislate and govern in regards to our communities, then I see that trend continuing.Β

The lyrics to Leash are kind of perfect for this whole moment in political history? Maybe Sky Ferreira has a hit on her hands at least.
