Β He has won the election so he doesn't need Elon's money or GOTV effort (and I doubt he'd feel the need to keep the relationship good for any successor). Β Elon will likely get some role in the Trump administration but if he does anything that impacts Trump's popularity he's likely to turn on him. Trump loves a good Elon drag. Β The other thing is that Trump has always had a dislike of electric cars. He's only silencing himself on the topic at the moment because he has needed Elon. If their relationship starts to break down, electric car trash talking will probably be the first sign. The cynic in me also thinks that Elon is somewhat grifting to try and grow electric car usage amongst the American right (where it has traditionally lagged) and Trump knows that's where he can hurt him the most. considering half his 2016 cabinet turned on him, it'll happen to Musk. and I will sit back and laugh. 3
