Can someone explain to me why the electoral college decision reigns over the popular vote? Sounds surreal to me.

During the founding of the country, compromises were necessary between the states to be able to form a strong union. Representatives of smaller states would not agree to a system based on popular vote alone and wanted to ensure they'd still have a seat at the table, so the electoral college was the system that was decided on.

In 2020 in Iowa, women outvoted men by 4%.

Right now, it's 10% :celestial5:

It goes back to the history of the creation of the USA.... it was about smaller population states not being overriden by the big states.

I'm sure you can guess the key issue that the small states cared about... lol. :biblio:

I remember there was a website where you could track the progress of the election real-time. Is that website already up?

Democrats never took the elimination of the electoral college to the supreme court?

It's in the constitution so no. The only way to completely get rid of it would be a constitutional amendment, which is not happening anytime soon. Some states have passed the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which is a workaround to ensure that whoever wins the popular vote becomes president.

How is that more representative?

It's not. But it was the founding fathers' idea behind establishing the electoral college. They aimed to balance the influence of populous states with that of smaller states. The Electoral College offered a way to protect smaller states by giving them a proportional, yet significant, voice.
