It can be easy to forget but even in Obama's landslide win in 2008 he "only" carried the state by 2 points. He had much larger margins in both Ohio and Iowa. Before that, Clinton was the last Democrat to win the state but he never even won a majority.

 

With DeSantis driving Republican migration to the state and Democrats out plus Latinos shifting toward Trump, Hillary's narrow loss in the state in 2016 can kind of be seen as Democrats' last gasp of competitiveness in Florida before it accepted its status as a ruby red state.
