Pikachoo Posted October 16 Posted October 16 how do they know the party affiliations of early voters? ย Are most americans really officially registered with a party?
Vermillion Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Especially with a Republican Senate if Trump wins, I expect perhaps Alito or Thomas, if they do want to retire, will tell the Federalist Society and Heritage Foundation who they want as their replacement. @ClashAndBurn's been good here mentioning Sotomayor's selfishness for not retiring earlier with her diabetes after all the RBG backlash.

Armani? Posted October 16 Posted October 16 The Siena poll is trash anyway, and it's funny how no one is mentioning Trump is getting nearly double the support from Black women in it than 2020.ย ย

Vermillion Posted October 16 Posted October 16 1 minute ago, Pikachoo said: how do they know the party affiliations of early voters? ย Are most americans really officially registered with a party? Becauseย our voting ballots are secret, many voters believe that information about their voting record is as well.ย That is far from the truth.ย At least some voter registration information is public unless the voter is in a class of protected people as explained below. ย Each state has laws on how much information the requestor can access. In addition, the Secretary of State page will list what confidential information is not accessible and restrictions on the purposes of the released voting information. For example,ย law enforcementย may access voting records when investigating potential election crimes and breaches of sensitive voter data. ย What information do state voting records contain? ย The public information in state voting records includes, at minimum, the voter's name, address, and party affiliation. States are free to gather additional information on the voter registration application, and some of that information may also become public. The table below lays out information your voting record may include. ย Voting Record Information Examples Identifying information Date of birth Gender Father's name or mother's maiden name Social Security number Military ID Passport number Driver's license number State identification card Address information Home address Mailing address Voting district Polling Place Contact information Phone number Email address Voting information Party affiliation Absentee ballot Precincts, registering agency, or required assistance Last voting date, e.g., local election or primary election Miscellaneous information Prior felony conviction Last date of jury duty Active or inactive voter registration status Date when information was last updated ย Who can request voting record information? ย State statutes define who can request a voter list, what information is available to share publicly and with whom, and how that information can be used. ย Depending upon yourย stateย (and sometimes your county), the following groups can submit a written request for your voting record: ย Political parties and candidates Law enforcement Government officials Businesses Scholars Journalists ย Even members of the general public can submit a public records request. For example, two phone apps make some voting record information available to the general public โ OutVote and VoteWithMe. ย Political campaigns purchase voting records forย political purposes, such as revising election district boundaries in California or "get out the vote" efforts in Maine. ย Nearly all states limit the use of voter registration records to non-commercial purposes only. Election officials and political campaigns cannot use resident's voting history to harass them or sell the information to foreign agencies. ย Can my voting record be kept private? ย Your state may have programs that allow you to keep at least some part of your voter record confidential. For example, some states have anย address confidentiality programย to protect the personal information of domestic violence victims, including their addresses. ย Additional examples of people who qualify for protection include: Crime victims, people with protective orders, and family members Law enforcement officers Spouses of law enforcement Reproductive healthcare medical providers, employees, volunteers, or patients State and federal judges and attorneys Foster parents Uniformed service members Pre-registered voters under the age of 18 Victims and witnesses under protection ย In some states, any voter can request to have their voting records classified as private, including: Utah Nevada District of Columbia Arkansas Arizona Delaware ย This article provides a brief overview regarding lawful access to voting records. There have been problems with unlawful access to voting records. In 2018, millions of voter records from 19 states were illegallyย offered for saleย in an online forum. The source of those records was unknown. ย Theย National Conference of State Legislaturesย maintains a detailed list of what data is confidential, allowable uses, and state-specific rules. ย Talk to a Lawyer About Exemptions From Public Record Requests ย If you have a concern about the privacy of your voting record, potential voting record violations, or other voting law issues,ย talk to an election law attorneyย in your community who can explain your rights. ย https://www.findlaw.com/voting/how-u-s--elections-work/what-information-is-public-from-your-voting-record.html ย ARTICLE LAST UPDATED MARCH 2024 3

Relampago. Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Since the polls keep basically implying a 50/50, I believe I'd rather be Harris going into ED.ย ย Generally doing better with likely voters, great turnout so far, high enthusiasm with Democratic base, economy doing well, higher favorability, etc. ย The dooming I saw a week or so ago with people saying "it's tightening! This is a Hillary situation!" No.. it's been pretty much a toss-up since shortly after Harris hopped in. ย I'm not saying we have this in the bag, but the closer we get to ED, the better I start to feel. I don't know why, just feels like it's ours to lose. 4 1
Mike91 Posted October 16 Posted October 16 I've said it before but I still feel fairly confident that she'll win everything Biden won and add on NC. She may lose AZ, but that's the only real "up in the air" state to me. I don't think the polling is reflecting the very real Trump fatigue, as well as Gen-Z voter turnout. ย Also, the close polls might cause some voters who vote for Trump, hesitantly, to vote for dems down ballot to keep him in check. I think dems win the house back and that the Senate will be 50-50 again. Manchin likely loses and Tester gets swapped out for Allred, basically. Independents will probably help give Sherrod Brown one more term. 6
