With margins this tight they must have internals indicating it's worth the risk in possibly turning off those aren't already locked into MAGA or are leftist. Without more data breakdown on motivations, I go by gut and the data that's available that indicates to me that this strategy isn't worth it. 1

I didn't pay too much attention to politics back then but I went back and looked and it's crazy how close the Obama/Romney race was. Basically all the polls were up and down averaging +2 for Obama and tied 1-2 weeks before the election but Obama ended up winning 5 million votes and 332 electoral votes. 2 1

Based from what I've read, Obama's flop first debate was the one that caused the election to be extremely close in the first place Hurricane Sandy really pulled through for him It also helped that the Dems had an electoral college bias at that time 1

What's insane to me is the discrepancy between "cares more about people like you" and "is a strong leader" because I do think those two things go hand in hand. I didn't pay attention to or really know anything about polls, but the overall narrative was that Romney had a good chance to beat Obama.
