shelven Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Nate Cohn at the NYT put out a really interesting article today about weighting choices in 2024 polling and a plausible theory for why polls might be overestimating Trump this time instead of underestimating him. Β It's long, but the TLDR is that most 2024 pollsters have been trying to fix the Trump underestimation from the last two cycles by weighting their polls based on how respondents voted in the 2020 election. But weighting by past recalled vote is historically an inaccurate technique that overestimates the party that lost the previous election (because some people who voted for the loser forget or don't want to admit that they did so, so they'll either claim they voted for the winner or that they didn't vote at all), so the polls that are using recalled voting weighting this cycle (which is most of them) might be giving too much weight to Trump's 2020 voters. Β This doesn't guarantee that 2024 polls are overestimating Trump - Cohn goes into some reasons why it may make sense to weight by recalled vote this cycle even if it's been inaccurate in past cycles - but it's an interesting theory for why they might be, and it reduces the likelihood that polls areΒ underestimatingΒ him again (since his past supporters are already likely being given more weight in polls than they should be). 5 3

Voting to a certain extent is about self-preservation, but the built-in assumption all Arabs (Arab-Americans?) are homophobic is part of the problem. If we want to criticize religious hypocrisy as a whole, fine, but it's the double standards for me that are the issue. Β Β Sigh this is the problem with liberals (referring to the subtweet) This is the attitude that ****** Hilary in 2016. If you want people to vote and turn out, dont take them for granted lol.Β Also I find it problematic that they are willing to concede votes just because they dont share the same pro LGBT/abortion values lol like since when did the Democratic Party exclusively catered to women and gays. How about the men, the working and middle class, the immigrants and minorities who were supposed to be upheld by the "vision" of the Democratic Party 10 years ago.Β Β Β This only strengthens the elitist stereotype that liberals have.Β 2 2

Idk why they're supporting him. They can easily say "we've been a supporter of Israel for decades, but Netanyahu is taking things too far. We will be putting an arms embargo on them for the foreseeable future until we get to a place of decency." Β I get they'd want to try civil talks and ceasefires before that but it's obvious he doesn't will not listen and does not care ultimately. Altho I wouldn't be surprised if the talks have intercepted worse things from happening. 2 1

But If Israel does what it wants and goes after Iran's oil fields and nuclear facilities, we're actually looking at a regional conflict. If nothing else, that means gasoline probably spiking back to $4.00 a gallon. We need every bit of influence we still have over Israel right now. Biden's successor throwing Netayahu under the bus might just force the opposite with Israel saying screw it, we have enough weapons until Trump comes back and going ape **** on Iran. That's my biggest fear right now by the way. Israel attacks Iran's oil fields and a barrel of oil spikes to where it was after Russia invaded Ukraine.Β
FameFatale Posted October 6 Posted October 6 We've move on from "They're only getting $750?!!" misinformation to now I'm seeing all up and down Facebook people saying they "heard they have to pay back that $750 because it's only a loan" Β I'm so sick of it.Β 1 3
