Glad to see the debate wasn't a massacre I couldn't watch. This election has roasted my mental health. Thankful for the ATRL footnotes and reactions lol

So basically what I'm reading, having missed the debate, is that it didn't really end up mattering or maybe slightly helped the Harris campaign.

ย

Good enough, at least I'll be able to sleep tonight!

Pretty much a wash. Both did what they needed to do.ย

The debate was forgettable. I was shocked at how well JD Vance didโ€”especially given his many awkward moments on the trail.

ย

If anything, JD Vance won because he will come off as competent to a lot of viewers. It doesn't help that Tim Walz constantly said, "I agree with a lot of what Senator Vance is saying!"

Yeah he can rattle off words in coherent sentences but still comes off as insincere and unrelatableย

He's not as awkward when he's not around the public ๐Ÿ’€
but that's not ย saying much for him.ย
ย

this seemed more like they were trying to rehab his image than anything. His low approval is probably hurting the ticket among other thingsย

Vance will be back on the campaign trail talking about immigrants aborting white women's babies against their will soon enough. Any benefit he gained will be washed away.ย
ย

with Trump's very clear decline and Vance's ability to shift based on what's needed, I wonder how many members of the GOP are wishing Trump would step down.ย

One thing to infer from the VP debates is that JD Vance no matter what happens is the presumptive nominee of the GOP for 2028. In my opinion, I think thats what he's going after anyway hence why he joined Trump's ticket.

I still don't get why immigration is such a big issue in politics this year, like the economy is great, unemployment is at records low, crime is down, etc. The only thing is MAYBE housing but immigrants will not compete for the houses of the middle class american lmao. There is no "THREAT"ย

I'm glad I slept through the debate, and I'm glad I woke up to virtually no viral tweets about it on my timeline (meaning Walz didn't completely bomb).

ย

Were they asked about Palestine, Israel, Iran, etc.?ย

I personally don't care about people coming in (open the borders), but it's an objective fact that there is an immigration issue in the USA, it's just how you view it that matters. Seeing an influx of "different-looking" people in your community (I've noticed a large uptick of Hispanic people in my hometown) scares a lot of Americans and makes it easy to believe the right-wing narrative that there's an "invasion".

ย

Leftists ignoring this are just stupid. They refuse to accept the reality and therefore cannot comprehend that this is a big issue for millions and it's something the Dems have to talk about and, at the very least, pretend to care about if they want to win elections. Had leftists spent the last four years working with Dems to push back on the anti-immigration narrative as opposed to focusing on spreading rightwing talking points, maybe we could've combatted the BS narrative pushed by the GOP.

Same here, I changed my mind and decided to sit this out and I see it's gotten virtually no noise.

The one clip that is blowing up though is jd vance not being able to say that trump lost the election. It overshadows everything else.ย

My takeaway from all of this is even if you're a gifted debater you can't expect to be on a level playing field with someone with no shame with constant lies by normal political standards (which are low to begin with).ย

the way the war in middle east completely high jacked this election and it's only gonna get worse from here now that it's escalating to unprecedented level

ย

it's like an unchecked virus that eventually destabilises the whole political class

If Walz went for the jugular it would've come across as forced but from what I'm seeing there was a lot of missed opportunities and the gaffes were glaring.

ย

Vance is the future of Trumpism if there is one - with the endless lies, gaslighting and obfuscation baked in.

ย

Debate's a wash as many predicted with the needle not meaningfully moved - the problem is this election will be decided on the margins and on that front, Walz won, barely, for the biggest trending takeaways including the election result and biggest election trend search being abortion.

ย

To hear as much discussion on housing as there ended up being was surreal. If that's Bernie's legacy as some want to claim, more power to him.

ย

Walz was still a better VP pick than Shapiro for the oppo and party divisions the latter's dealing with (including the latest team member sexual harrassment lawsuit), seeing as that's the barometer some are basing this debate performance and election on. Genuine and sloppy vs the risks towards further damaging base enthusiasm cancelling out any "polished" debate performance.

ย

It's bizarre to bring up Obama and Romney which is from a world that no longer exists. JD has to manufacture continued consent for the Haitian 8chan novel with a biracial family while wearing eyeliner :deadvision:
