Mondaire spoiling Yuh-Line Niou instead of taking the fight to Sean Patrick Maloney like he should have. ******* coward. He's exactly the kind of snake that Elizabeth Warren is. :biblionny:

ย

What an absolute disaster. Now there's going to be an ultra-wealthy resistance liberal in Congress on the merits of his failed impeachment prosecution of Trump. Yikes.

i think (granted, from personal anecdotes) that rivera actually tipped it. so many left/left-adjacent people i spoke to last night and this morning were unsure between niou and rivera. mondaire was pulling from goldman mostly is my suspicion. surprised niou got this close, i was fully expecting goldman to sweep when i voted for her this morning considering the lib'd vibe of this district and nyc's generally horrific politics.ย

Can these unhinged pigs drop dead already? Imagine the nerve to be against loan relief WHEN YOU'VE LITERALLY HAD LOAN RELIEF. They should be DEMANDED to pay their loans back. Mueller in particular is repulsive.ย

Considering what Biden the Builder has been able to achieve with a 50/50 Senate, the possibilities are endless.ย :'(
ย

That said, a selfish part of me wants Pelosi to stay on as Speaker so we donโ€™t have to worry about politics and passing bills in the House. But, another part of me also wants Pelosi to retire as Speaker to watch the entire House fall apart without her.ย :shutup:ย

Lot of overhyped signals from last night that I credit almost solely to the Roe v. Wade overturn, but I'm still sticking with the 2014 political model I posted earlier of a last-minute surge in Republican polling, enthusiasm, turn-out and a Republican capture of the House.

ย

The only signal worth taking away for me from the left's primary debacles are @ClashAndBurn's on what issues are valued that are waved away as needing a "victory" they claim is only possible for many districts with a "moderate".ย Which may very well be the case in some districts but in others is wildly exaggerated, and it goes far beyond the simple Cook Political Report plus or minus scores.

ย

I've certainly come down much harder on the Pied Piper Strategy than I used to thanks to the discussion around Maloney that has little to do with Hillary.

The way you have to lie and ignore that even progressives have said they can maintain the House be a razor-thin margin (thus the issue with endorsing Cuellar) just so you can then frame such as an overperformance if it happens.ย :deadbanana4:

Almost every one is saying and the stats shows that the gop will win the house ? thatโ€™s just the way itโ€™s gonna be. Now they might not lose as many seats as once thought thoughย

The boring reality is heโ€™ll probably pause them again.ย Itโ€™s part of his long game to normalize not paying student debt.

Imagine doubting Biden the Builder at this point in his successful presidency.ย :celestial3:

Wow- if you put yourself on an IDR (income driven repayment) plan, theyโ€™ll cap payments at 5% of monthly income (down from 10%) and will cover the interest, effectively making your loans interest free so any payments go just towards the principle.ย
ย

ย

IMO this is bigger than the 10-20k forgiveness, but both together helps a lot.

Thatโ€™s awesome. Also 20k for people with pell grants thatโ€™s hugeย

Source? If true, this is potentially even more significant.ย

But what about the interest already accrued onto the loan?ย

ย

The retroactive Pell Grant idea is condemnable and should have been their approach from the start. The $20k is still baby brained math (let's just times it by 2!) when even just $35k would have cleared out the debts of the borrowers in the bottom 40% of income earners.ย

ย

They also have to give us flexibility and choice on how they apply such forgiveness. Though the IDR cancelling out the interest will hopefully take away my fears over them playing games with how it's applied.ย

I really like these two points if the planย

ย

  • Forgive loan balances after 10 years of payments,ย instead of 20 years, for borrowers with loan balances of $12,000 or less.
  • Cover the borrower's unpaid monthly interest, so that unlike other existing income-driven repayment plans, no borrower's loan balance will grow as long as they make their monthly paymentsโ€”even when that monthly payment is $0 because their income is low.

I noticed it says "proposing a rule":

Quote

Income-based repayment plans have long existed within the U.S. Department of Education. However, the Biden-Harris Administration is proposing a rule to create a new income-driven repayment plan that will substantially reduce future monthly payments for lower- and middle-income borrowers.

Does this mean it will have to be approved by congress? If so, forget it.ย :rip:
