When Trump came on the scene politically.ย And how did that happen? ย It's actually like.. stomach-churning that this strategy worked out in the end for corporate Dems. ย It backfired for Clinton in the short-term, but it effectively - in the year of 2024 - has seen Democrats not have to move to the left but instead comfortably move themselves just to the right enough to absorb disaffected Never Trump Republicans and siphon them off from the far-right Republican that Dems helped to create. ย They simply negotiated that Republicans be "okay" with some aspects of abortion and gay marriage if they get to continue hating poor people.ย ย I'm sure foreign liberals posting from the privileged comforts of places like Australia or some European nation will scream about the observation that Kamala Harris is right-wing, but when Dems have to give policy concessions like no longer supporting universal healthcare to win over war criminals like Dick Cheney, who is actually winning? ย Edited September 8 by Communion

ClashAndBurn Posted September 8 Posted September 8 The thing is, the only one of these that actually is accurate is her support for abortion rights. Everything else is also a stated position of Republicans (tax cuts, lowering costs) or just a straight lie (preserving democracy, when she was literally nominated without submitting to a primary vetting process and not earning even a single delegate across two primaries). ย At least people are admitting that elections are about worthless vibes instead of meaningful policy change.

Or maybe they don't care. ย Mass deportation cannot work if the system is selective. It does not work if the agents in charge have to go from person to person being like, "can I see your identification please?" No, it only works if a wide net is thrown to pull in as many people as possible and then dealing with the "wrong ones being pulled in" later. Mass deportation only works by racially profiling anyone who looks brown and then worrying about if they're actually undocumented at a later date. This means millions of American citizens will be sent to camps only to then have to fight to prove that they are citizens while millions of undocumented people are being processed. Millions of Americans will be trapped inside these camps for days, weeks, months, or even years. ย I know people don't like this comparison, but that's exactly how the Holocaust occurred. The Nazis didn't just use documentation to identify Jews, they were also often just like, "yeah, you look like a Jew, off to the camps". I know several Conservatives who are married to Latinas or could be mistaken as Latino themselves... so careful what you wish for. This will also lead to paranoia around the country which will only further the racial profiling. This will affect nearly every single brown person in this country because most white people are too ******* dumb to differentiate between races when it comes to being anything other than pale white. Something similar happened in the UK a few years ago under Theresa May with people from the Windrush Generation who had lived in the UK for decades being deported/not allowed back in after travelling.ย ย It was a mess, I can definitely see something even worse happening in the US. ย

Tovitov Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I dont feel inclined to doom over a single national poll. And we did get some decent state polling from YouGov and TIPP today. So, keep on keeping on I suppose.ย 1
