The point is that all the Never-Trump people the Dems decided were worth highlighting at their convention (while sidelining Palestinians out of nothing but pure, deep-seated racism) will abandon ship the instant they're allowed to rally around a Nikki Haley or Chris Christie candidate.

But do non-college educated whites rally around a Nikki Haley to the same extent they have around Trump? I struggle to see that. Trump has had demographic upsides that are difficult to replicate for a traditional pro business conservative.

In any case, my view is that post Trump, the Republicans will continue to become more extreme on the far right populism, and will replace him with someone who appeals to Trump's base but who unlike him may also be smart and effective. It wont be a return to the party of Romney and McCain, it'll be the party of Tucker Carlson, Vivek Ramaswamy and JD Vance. I'm not sure it is good for the overall health of the democratic party but 'former Republicans' are there to stay, I fear.

The only way there is a primary in 2028 is if Kamala loses this year. She'll ride the exact same incumbency train to the nomination that Biden did this year up until he humiliated himself on the debate stage

ive said it before, but 2032 could be the first time we have a free and fair primary where the DNC doesn't have their thumb on the scale in some form or fashion (2016 superdelegates, 2020 coordinated dropouts after SC) since 2008. That's assuming Walz doesn't want the job at the end of it, because he'll only be 68 then, which makes him a spring chicken by Dem leadership standards (about 10 years younger than Biden was in 2020). He's claiming an air of humility now, but in 8 years a lot could change.

I don't see it for Walz tbh. He's just not presidential.

At least the GP seems to hate Vance, Ramaswamy, & co.

One thing that might not be apparent to people at home is how small the number of protestors was this week. The NYT reported on it this morning, but people were anticipating 30k+ protestors descending on Chicago and the biggest protest was maybe 1-2k. I live within a couple miles of the United Center and have witnessed countless Gaza protests all year long and the number of protesters this week was honestly less than the average weekend. I'm not sure if it has more to do with the change at the top of the ticket or people feeling like it wouldn't make a difference, but I know Chicago democrats are breathing a huge sigh of relief that this wasn't 1968.

If she wins that photo is going to end up in museums and history books. If she loses, it's going to be another "happy birthday to this future President" :gaycat6:

No wonder the racist genocide-supporting Libs in here are praising her speech. Keep rooting for this center-right warhawk. Keep claiming that you care about human rights. Keep calling anyone criticizing her a "Trump supporter" when she's running the most conservative Democratic campaign in ages.

More radical by the day.... might be time to log off and reconnect with reality.

At what point does the "middle/working class vs. 1%" distinction become stale and nebulous? Let's call it out: in 2024 the real divide is between those who own property, especially those who have made off like bandits on their property values post-pandemic - whether they're renting out property, flipping homes, sold their home, or looking to sell their home for exorbitant profit - and those of us who are stuck paying more and more in rent year after year indefinitely because we have no hope of owning a home anytime soon. :rip:

my mom absolutely loved her speech last night, and has repeated "we are not going back" several times, couldn't wait to tell me. I know it's doomsday in this thread every day, but the real world is still going apparently.

I didn't see much near me either, but I made an effort to go downtown/west loop a few times to see for myself what was going on. The city was honestly quieter than usual other than the blacked out SUVs all over the city and Harris-Walz/DNC gear everywhere

Happy to not have helicopters flying over my house for the first time in a week though

This has been my experience too. This forum's agenda is not shared by most in the real world.
