The Republican on CNN is kinda right - her speech didn't focus enough on the economy and inflation and Republicans will continue to associate these problems with the Biden presidency.

The random China stray and her being more supportive of Ukraine than Palestine. Oh well.ย

Well duh... Ukraine is an ally of the US that's under attack by one of our greatest geopolitical foes. A Russian defeat in Ukraine is something the US wants.

ย

Is it really surprising?

You guys realize this was her moment to tell the country who Kamala Harris is? To define herself and her vision?

ย

All I heard during that speech was a bunch of meaningless platitudes. She sounded SO much stronger on the road, and balked at the last second. If I wasn't informed, I would leave that speech still wondering who I'm voting for.

ย

She failed to tackle any clear weaknesses, didn't say anything different or revolutionary, she might as well have copied another speech because it came across that way.

ย

I say this all who really wants her to win, but she is going to lose momentum fast if she doesn't keep showing people something new and differentโ€” especially if her campaign slogan is literally: we're not going back.

ย

I guess by that she meant we're not going all the way back to 2016, just 2020.

While I don't really disagree, do we feel this way bc we do know where she stands? She touched on virtually every major issue important to voters: immigration, economy, abortion, military. And she said what she supports and how it all works?

I think Kamala threaded a needle tonight. Calling for Palestinian self deterimination isnt nothing, although I think she layed it on alittle thick when it came to defending Israel.ย

For a moment I even thought she wasn't going to mention Palestine at all after the big Israel statements nnnย

I think what's tricky for her when it comes to this is that she's technically still in office and (on paper) the second most powerful figure in the world. It would be very hard to make the argument that you'll fix these issues when technically you've had the past 4 years to do so and haven't (although issues with the economy are a lot more complex than that, this is how everyday Americans will read it).ย

That's so crazy that was not my impression of her speech at all. I'm not sure what you were expecting but that was a strong speech imo. She showed strength and articulated who she will be in comparison to Trump. She hit every mark she needed to.ย

Not to be rude, but how many convention speeches have you watched? She sounded no different from Hillary in 2016 or Biden in 2020. The whole, โ€œWe have more in common than we have differences among us,โ€ schtick is so generic ChatGPT probably would have written it if you asked it to write a DNC convention speech.

As someone ย who watched every dnc since I can remember she was fantastic and much better than Hillary (who I was a big fan of) and definitely better than Biden ๐Ÿ˜‚

There's folks here that have been saying that for weeks regardless of this speech, which just confirmed a lot of their worst fears.

It was a great speech and will appeal to undecided voters in the middle. She came across very strong and presidential.

We can't even get guns banned domestically and y'all are expecting the median voter to engage in debate and discourse over the two state solution in Israel/Palestine. Let's be serious.ย

Let's keep the talking points simple, return the hostages and get a ceasefire.ย

I agree. Have we forgotten how polarized this country is rn?? Leftist policies will not be taken seriously for quite awhile. In fact this new world of misinformation will make it an uphill battle. ย I can't even say I'm ready for those polices. I'm still left of middle on quite a few thingsย :coffee:

This was a huge theme of Hillaryโ€™s speech and itโ€™s no different from Kamalaโ€™s:

Quote

I refuse to believe we canโ€™t find common ground here.

We have to heal the divides in our country.

Not just on guns. But on race. Immigration. And more.

That starts with listening to each other. Hearing each other. Trying, as best we can, to walk in each otherโ€™s shoes.

Although I understand the optics behind including Republicans, I just can't stand these wolves in sheep clothing. They will fall back in line with the GOP as soon as Trump is gone. If you really don't recognize your party, change your affiliation to prove it.

These are the same people that said Democratsโ€™ only shot at winning was replacing Biden with someone else even if itโ€™s Kamala (someone we do not like); these are the same people that advocated for Tim Walz for VP.

ย

Given our very recent track record, Iโ€™d say you should maybe take our commentary more seriously.ย :coffee2:

They don't actually care about Trump winning.. they just care about ratings so a Kamala presidency is still a win for them where they can attack her every dayโ€ฆ
