I think you can plead to work with an Israel without Netanyahu and make that clearer in the speech.

If Trump loses I don't think Bibi will last much longerย

I was kinda taken aback by the random warmongering like shshsh ? The mention of dictators and China took me out because she usually focuses on domestic stuff. ย

She's running for commander in chief of the US. And one of trump's biggest arguments against her is that foreign leaders do not fear Joe or her. She needed to project strength in that areaย

Not to be too negative, but the speech was very generic. It doesn't really stand out that much. It's the definition of "Generic Ballot Democrat".

ย

No clip from this speech will be remembered. It'll be back to the normal news cycle 2 days from now. I also don't expect a super big bump in the polls. She might still rise, but she was already on the rise in the polls. But I think the possibility of a massive jump has been ruled out.

For years polls have shown that a "generic Democrat" performs better than Trump. People kept saying they needed to replace Biden with a generic democrat, and that is what happened.ย
ย

I honestly think she is trying to be realistic with her policies. She knows that if she wins she will be overseeing a divided Congress. Biden's policy platform was much more ambitious in 2020 because he knew there was a chance that he would get the trifecta

Appealing to fascists/Zionists is actually a bad thing.

Finding the right messaging on this issue might actually convert some of those Zionists Democrats into understanding why supporting Palestine is the correct thing to do.ย

This would be a good angle. He is very unpopular everywhere. But how does she approach this without it coming off as "we are going to interfere with Israel's government"?

You guys realize this was her moment to tell the country who Kamala Harris is? To define herself and her vision?

ย

All I heard during that speech was a bunch of meaningless platitudes. She sounded SO much stronger on the road, and balked at the last second. If I wasn't informed, I would leave that speech still wondering who I'm voting for.

ย

She failed to tackle any clear weaknesses, didn't say anything different or revolutionary, she might as well have copied another speech because it came across that way.

ย

I say this as someone who really wants her to win, but she is going to lose momentum fast if she doesn't keep showing people something new and differentโ€” especially if her campaign slogan is literally: we're not going back.

ย

I guess by that she meant we're not going all the way back to 2016, just 2020.

The random China stray and her being more supportive of Ukraine than Palestine. Oh well.ย

I think the "surprise" was Steph Curry's endorsement... too much hype for that.

it seems to me like their biggest goal, especially today, was trying to win over mild republicans with moral concerns re: Trump

So the exact same as 2020... I guess we ARE going back...

I think Kamala threaded a needle tonight. Calling for Palestinian self deterimination isnt nothing, although I think she layed it on alittle thick when it came to defending Israel.ย

That's so crazy that was not my impression of her speech at all. I'm not sure what you were expecting but that was a strong speech imo. She showed strength and articulated who she will be in comparison to Trump. She hit every mark she needed to.ย

Well, hopefully there's a strong primary in 2028

People downvoting me like I said she'd lose :deadbanana2:ย I just think tonight showed she's not gonna be all that different from Biden and that's not a set of politics you're gonna win with long term

I enjoyed the speech. SHe has to win over some of the 70 million trump supporters or whatever from last time.ย

ย

I'm glad she didn't go into too much twitter leftist rhetoric.

ย

I'm excited, hopefully she can keep up the momentum.

The problem with this is that shots against Trump are over-saturated. Trump is the most overexposed presidential candidate in history. People will not change their minds about him. Seeing Kamala recycle the same criticisms won't move anyone. The only thing she can do is build herself up and she didn't do that good of a job in terms of building out her poltiical identity. She's a generic democrat, which to @shelven's point, polls well. But, I don't know her central issues or goals if she's elected president.

thats true. people have already made their mind about Trump.

ย

but i dont think a 'generic democrat' is a bad thing. one step at a time. the democrat party of today is not the same as it was 10 years ago, or 20 years ago.
