2024 US Election Megathread ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Something about Taylor Swift or Beyonce potentially making an appearance instead of highlighting just one speaker on behalf of Palestine is so 2016'd, it's kind of scaring me :deadbanana2:

ย

The Dems were doing really well with messaging that connects with people for a little while there, but this DNC, in spite of its good moments, has really felt like we're going back to that grand display of celebrity and elite power while children are blown apart and Americans are paying $10 for a pack of bananas.ย

ย

Nothing wrong with a little celebration and joy butโ€ฆ let's not go enhance the tone deaf image. Nonetheless, if it is some huge celebrity that's cool as an ATRLer I guess but not that exciting as a voter.ย

Is anyone in here familiar with the Foxnews host, Jessica Tarlov?ย
Is she the only liberal on Foxnews?ย
Where did she come from? It feels like I've constantly been seeing videos of her pop up on my Twitter feed in the last couple of weeks.
ย

She is typically on their popular show The Five and she pops up every now and then as a contributor on their other shows. There are a couple more liberal contributors on Fox like Marie Harf and Leslie Marshall that show up on shows too like Outnumbered. Marie was on Outnumbered today dragging Trump and Kayleigh's head about exploded :rip:ย ย

This makes sense, the priorities for Americans are protecting freedoms, reproductive rights, and income inequality.

More power to anyone that can make it through a viewing of The Five. I can stomach conservative commentary, but Greg and Jesse's punchable faces make it unbearable for me.ย

ย

Jeanine is also ****ing insane but it's Fox News so what do I expect?

Ah, ok. That's what that show is called, the five?ย
Honestly, I like watching her on that panel. I don't know if this is just me, but it feels like the other people on that panel do not like her and barely tolerate her?ย

Wait what if Charli is debuting the Apple remix with Chappell for the special guest slot :jonny5:

I genuinely wish for bad things to happen to you and for you to experience suffering and pain bexause the level of trolling you constantly do can only come from a place that is dark and hateful.ย

Yes it's called The Five. It comes on Fox News at 5:00 EST. It seems that way because Fox News is right wing propaganda. The show's writing, topics.. etc is meant to be pro-Trump and she has to stand her ground with the facts. The other hosts just kiss up to Trump/republicans because that's what Fox is. I'm sure off the camera they're alright on a personal level. She did a good interview with The Breakfast Club a couple weeks ago if you want to listen to that.ย

Is my hyperbole what you took from that post? :deadbanana2:

ย

I'll rephrase then: Americans are surviving paycheck to paycheck. Hearing Shake It Off mashed up with Single Ladies is not going to fill their bellies or their family's. Watching celebrities have fun on stage while eating their 6th ramen and fried egg dinner of the week isn't exactly a YAAAAAS moment, unfortunately. And that out of touch approach really hit Dems hard in 2016.

ย

EDIT: Wait not children being blown apartย taking a backseat to the bananas. We've gotta be in hell. :rip:ย

My crazy ass LIVES to watch right-wing news. :rip:ย  It's even funnier now with Kamala being the nominee because they're like back and forth over outrage.ย

This isn't 2016, when the narrative was "Hillary is getting coronated." It's like 2008, when people were suffering in the economic crisis and chose to be hopeful because of Obamaย

ย

the doom and gloom of 4 weeks ago is not the narrative here.ย

Celebrities bring in people who wouldn't typically watch motivation to tune in to watch the DNC, such as low-information voters or non-registered people. And along the way hopefully, learn about what's going on politically. That's why they're included.ย

ย

P.S. Maybe you've had too much Fox News consumption lately.

I'll give you that: Kamala isn't Hillary.ย

ย

But the coronation thing is actually kind of funny causeโ€ฆ That is sorta the narrative being pushed right now. Biden basically handing the nomination to Harris without a formal primary is bringing into question whether she's being coronated at the expense of a democratic primary. Let me say, I see NO issue with this and I don't believe Harris "stole" anything, but it's undeniably something she'll be hit with more and more, especially at the debate I'm sure.ย

ย

Like I said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with some pomp and circumstance, I applaud the Harris campaign for not feeding into the gloom and doom because I think Americans are tired of that as well. But that needs to be balanced with mindfulness of the real issues people are facing, here and abroad. Saying no to a Palestinian representative speaking on uniting under Harris but saying YES to celebrities who won't be affected much by this election one way or the other feels.. just uncomfortably similar to 2016 for me. Not AS bad, but in the same realm.

Yeah, I don't really have an issue with a celebrity appearance in itself. It could definitely bring in some new viewers and hopefully get out the vote.ย

ย

My issue is more in which the context that it's happening. The main topic of controversy being that Palestine is still being sidelined while celebrities who are relatively unaffected by politics get a platform. That just reads really poorly to those who care about Gaza, and yes, we can argue about the impact that will or will not have, but data shows it would only hurt Kamala to ignore these voters, while it wouldn't hurt her at all to engage with them.

ย

I said this earlier as well, but while I felt prior to the DNC that the uncommitted voters holding out for Harris to move to more pro-Palestine positions would eventually come home to herโ€ฆ I'm not sure if being so dismissive of this group, and with disdain from a loud chunk of this party, will allow that to remain true. Just my two cents, and I hope I'm wrong.

I agree 100000% with this assessment. I think the DNC/kamala can get away with it *tonight* as it is their convention and a celebration of them, but going forward, no. Time to talk policy and prepare for the debate about Trump, and they should be making room for uncommitted speakers, tonight.ย
ย

They've given enough voices to "never Trump Republicans" the last 3 elections now. They barely move the needle, while Palestinian voters can make or break a state Kamala NEEDS to winโ€ฆ.

I think the compromise would be to allow Palestinian speakers to record a pre-recorded video to play during the DNC. The concern Dems have is that someone will go off-script and start yelling insults at Joe or Kamala. And I get it since this is Kamala's night and the risk is high.ย

Constantly referring to protestors (including actual Palestinians whose families have been killed/affected by the genocide) who are trying to get the Dem nominee to let them speak, to hear them, and most importantly change her policy as "loud", "obnoxious", "chronically online", "chaos lovers", etc then claiming that you support Palestine. A Liberal through and through.

ย

Can't wait for yall to let the mask off and go full on racist MAGAs when many of these people don't vote in November. Apparently, their votes are useless and they have no impact. :giraffe:

We don't have to go full MAGA because you've already gone all in for us. Keep up the daily (hourly?) bashing of the Dems you are voting for and see how that ends up for you.ย
