Considering Putin’s stated position is that, and I’m paraphrasing, “we invaded Ukraine in order to reestablish the Russian Empire and extinguish the fake Ukrainian ethnicity”, I don’t think Ukraine was left with much of a choice. It’s actually quite existential for them. And you speak of dead Ukrainians as if the alternative option isn’t everyone in Ukraine’s government being executed and a huge percentage of the population being deported to the Russian Far East and replaced with ethnic Russians, or in other words, ethnic cleansing. In this scenario, hundreds of thousands of deaths is a pretty probable outcome. The fact that the purpose of the war is to destroy the Ukrainian people, a state of affairs which you presumably consider acceptable, is quite troubling.

Thanks to Saudi Arabia, China, India and even some European countries ( ), Russian oil has found its way back into the market and readjusted the total global supply.
