From Nate Silver:

Quote

The bull case for Harris, then, is simply if you think that she can sustain her higher numbers but Trump can't. And that's hardly crazy. America has a long history with Trump, and he's been unpopular for nearly all of that. Sympathy over the assassination attempt may decline as the rough-and-tumble of the campaign resumes, and after a fundraising surge, Democrats will have infinity dollars to spend to define Trump and JD Vance negatively.

And believe it or not, Democrats are actually pretty good at winning elections, as evidenced by their strong 2018 and 2022 midterms and their strong polling in Senate races. A "generic Democrat" may well be good enough against Trump, despite Democrats' Electoral College disadvantage.

For the people who followed the Hilary campaign closely back then; what was "Tim Kaine" like? All I know is that he was absolutely steamrolled by Hilary's aura, which was maybe what she wanted.

Was he more of a Walz, Beshear or Shapiro?

He was like none of those to be completely honest. If anything he'd be like if Harris picked Cooper.

He added nothing. Hillary could have said "i'm gonna do something different and not announce a VP until after the election" and it wouldn't have changed the race because he was so irrelevant. I don't even remember how he speaks.

The way Reddit creams themselves over Mark Kelly just because he was an astronaut :bibliahh:

Oh God, Tim Kaine. :gaycat6:

He wasn't like any of them, to be honest. Closest comparison would be Roy Cooper.

He was very vanilla, not controversial, bland and safe. I'd say the main reason he was picked was because he was from Virginia and winning that state (along with the blue wall, and FL) was a big part of Hillary's strategy during the 2016 election.

Where has he been these past few days? I get the feeling that he doesn't really want the VP role like that.

I'd honestly rather she choose Buttigieg over Obama impersonator Shapiro or a Tim Kaine clone :deadbanana:

Who is the Tim Kaine clone? Buttigieg was giving Obama impersonator in 2020 tbh.

Roy cooper was the Tim kaine choice of this election.  The rest left all bring something to the table at least.

Btw you can't really "prove a model wrong" when it gives one person 62% and the other 38%.

It's basically saying both of these things have a decent chance of happening but one is favored.

It'd be different if RFK won when the model says that's virtually 0% chance. Then that'd be proving it wrong.

As someone who lives in Virginia, I can tell you Tim Kaine is absolutely boring (and I'm glad; a senator doesn't need to be exciting). He was and is completely bland and inoffensive. And he occasionally speaks in Spanish for no apparent reason. :deadbanana4:

Mark Kelly, as a boring old white guy Senator from a swing state, is still a Tim Kaine to me and no amount of people soyfacing over him having been an astronaut changes that, like what is this, the 90s?

But I agree Buttigieg definitely used to be guilty of that too. Or maybe he still is and I just don't notice it as much because now he's usually sparring with Fox News hosts instead of campaigning at rallies.

Please for the love of God, dont **** this up with Shapiro. Many smart people work within the democratic party, hope that they can see the problems that come with Shapiro. :dancehall2:

Yeah, the idea that Mark Kelly would deliver Arizona makes no sense either. Really Beshear feels like the only choice that makes a lot of sense but he comes off as nervous in interviews.
