Young people (my age or 18+) that are thinking Palestine is THE biggest voting issue in this US election truly baffle me. Open your eyes. Chances are your freedoms are at risk while you think it's cool to abstain or worse, go vote third party/green party or heaven forbid, vote for Trump. People vote based on their own interests. Voting is a means to express your own political positions. Votes are earned and many progressives and Arab Americans don't feel the Biden/Harris administration earned their vote. Not everyone is civically engaged either, so they might have a higher bar to turn out period. 1 1

Kamala herself questioned Biden during the debates in 2020 and nobody died. This whole idea that coronating Kamala is the best way to go is so bizarre. Democrats should select the nominee in the most DEMOCRATIC way at this juncture, which is an open convention. Kamala's presidential run ended largely because she chose to be confrontational towards another candidate (who wasn't named Bernie Sanders) and providing Republicans talking points that could be used against the man who was most likely going to be the nominee. She then flopped not because Tulsi Gabbard attacked her record but because she failed to defend herself. Democrats don't want attack dogs to be their candidates. They want everyone to be nice and cordial to each other in the primaries and not point out shortcomings and problems with their records. Except when it comes to punching left, then of course it's fair game. A contentious primary is seen as a circular firing squad that damages everyone, especially whomever the eventual candidate ends up being. 1

There's something about him that makes me want to get bent over and RAILED by him But in all seriousness: he seems to have the ability to connect with rural voters, he's cute, and he will make both factions of the party pleased. In terms of pure policy, Walz remains the GOAT, but Beshear has a little something extra about him Edited July 25 by Bears01 6
clee95 Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Kamala, just give the vp to Beshear, least controversial by far.

People are allowed to vote or not vote based on their own decisionmaking calculus, but they also need to follow that decision-making calculus to its logical conclusion. If our decisions to vote mean that we are culpable for the global harm the bodies we vote for conduct; our decision to not vote also leaves us culpable as well. There are many reasonable justifications for voting and for abstention, but just as we need to ask ourselves what our vote justifies/endorses, we also need to ask ourself what sitting out justifies/endorses. 2 2

Vermillion Posted July 26 Posted July 26 I'm at work but it sounds like the speech made up for the statement and also wasn't catastrophic and even somewhat decent. Crisis averted I guess. That's a relief. Will check in later tonight.
ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted July 26 ATRL Moderator Posted July 26 The speech was fine. Obviously could have been better. But, compared to the shit show we’ve had to put up with from Biden, it’s a field goal. I’m curious to see how the rest of the party moves on the Gaza situation. The Nancy Pelosi tweet lambasting Bibi’s speech shocked the hell out of me. I think that does indicate the DNC is wanting to shift messaging on this issue. I’m still skeptical. But, it looks like the party at least knows that this is a critical issue to winning the presidential race, which is good. 12 1
Vermillion Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Last time this happened violence skyrocketed This is really shallow but damn it part of me wish this waited

Sannie Posted July 26 Posted July 26 I think it's kind of smart to have these separated zoom calls. There's one scheduled called GAY AND QUEER BLACK MEN FOR HARRIS. :Jonny: 1
justin. Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Trump saw that the polls are shifting and started shitting in his adult diapers. He knows he will get demolished in a debate. 4

shelven Posted July 26 Posted July 26 If Trump had never debated at all, I don't think that would have affected him much. But excitedly debating Biden and then refusing to debate Harris may really backfire on him because it makes it super obvious he's scared of Harris If I'm on his campaign team, I'm absolutely encouraging him to do the debate. Skipping will be viewed as a loss, whereas if he debates, there's at least a chance he can rattle Harris (or that she can just have a bad night). 4
