ATRL Moderator Azulito Posted July 19, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted July 19, 2022 I hate seeing people assume Charlie Crist is already the chosen Democratic candidate for governor. The primary is still a month away. The fact that Democrats are getting behind a former Republican that is STILL pro-life in 2022 is just Nikki Fried is the only option
Kassi Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Though I don’t mind Kamala as a politician, I just don’t think she has the polish or authenticity for a $2 billion nationwide run against media-favored white men. She reads funny to a lot of people. In general, I think even widely renowned, popular black women like Oprah and Michelle would struggle against the patriarchal, white supremacist propaganda machine. If you really step back and think about it, Obama is still the only non-white male President this country has ever had. And political talent like his only comes once in a generation. Plus, kind of sick of Senators after that chamber has stalled all of Pelosi’s legacy. It’s time to bring back the era of governors running for higher office (and winning).

The fact that Democrats are getting behind a former Republican that is STILL pro-life in 2022 is just Nikki Fried is the only option For the record, that statewide poll I was referring to didn't have a Nikki Fried comparison. The RealClearPolitics average has DeSantis stomping all over both so this conversation is kind of pointless: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2022/governor/Florida.html The local Democratic party keep hyping the 2018 numbers as if they're replicable outside of a Trump presidency in what is now a solid red state. There's a lot of cultural conversations around Cubanos voting for social fascism (DeSantis) and muddled fiscal priorities ($15/hr but lower taxes) at the same time that so many progressives and moderates just aren't willing to have at the moment. Until then, the state doesn't have a chance to go purple again, which I see as highly unlikely in my lifetime anyways. 2 minutes ago, Cruel Summer said: For most people, I feel like it’s all about the letter next to the name and whether they feel like the person is charismatic - nothing more. In which party or overall? Repeating the Bill Clinton quote "Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line" around here is like kicking a hornet's nest.
ClashAndBurn Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Democrats have to be winning by 8 points nationally before you can assume that they have any chance of winning the Electoral College. And even then, they could still only win or lose by a margin of 40k votes like how Biden BARELY came out on top in 2020, even though all the polling indicated Trump would lose re-election by a landslide. Liberals shouldn't be so cocky and comfortable. Especially seeing as national polling showing Biden up by 3 points actually would point to him losing the Electoral College by a significant amount.
Kassi Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 The GOP is literally fraying if Republicans in swing states like Michigan can't get firmly behind their most effective frontrunner, and one-time President. I wish some on the left would stop framing Trump as this unstoppable tour de force with a unique grasp of politics beyond any Democratic politicians understanding. If everyone was being honest, and applied the "Hillary standard" to Trump, the narrative would go something like: Hillary Trump didn't campaign in Wisconsin Arizona and is therefore the most talentless politician that ever lived. Any other notable qualities you think he might have had as a candidate are secondary to this single decision, which is the one and only reason why Biden is president. It's a given that Biden would kick his ass again. But I'm also starting to realize Daddy Newsom is going to eat him alive. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

I mean, the RCP average has just 3 polls and 2 are from months ago. Crist has done nothing to deserve the "frontrunner" outside of name-recognition; his website mentions literally nothing about improving education, healthcare, abortion, LGBTQ+ rights, etc. It's almost shocking how bad it is yet this is the candidate Democrats are pushing. He's basically trying to run a more conservative version of the Biden campaign (CNN actually wrote about this a few days ago). Not only has that turned out to be failure in terms of getting anything achieved, but Biden was running against Trump who was much more divisive than DeSantis. Crist is not gonna win anyone by running in the middle. Not saying Fried would beat DeSantis if she does win the primary, but supporting candidates like Crist is NOT the way to improve Democrats' position in Florida.
Vermillion Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Looks like Tucker Carlson wants to play the Chris Christie to Nimrata Randhawa's Marco Rubio this round

Vermillion Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 //// Cross Roe thread. Kansas is the first state to take Roe to the voters - their date is August 2nd if anyone was wondering.

rihannabiggestfan Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Hillary may be unelectable, but even she won states and delegates her first time running for president, unlike Kamala and Biden. 10 minutes ago, ClashAndBurn said: Kamala fighting against "white supremacy" and "patriarchy" is literally the least of her problems. Pete calling black people homophobic teas apparently men don't support Kamala, a woman of color, because they're "too sexist and racist" yet they support other women of color just fine (ABC getting embarrassingly ratio'ed on Twitter comes to mind )
