Privately knowing he's not fit to be running for office, but being too cowardly to publicly say that because they fear that the cult portion of the party's voting base will turn against them for speaking out Hopefully enough Democrats do what congressional Republicans were never willing to do and they actually fight the urge to remain silent. It won't surprise me if the few that have come forward already retract their statements when it's clear that nothing is going to happen, and Joe Biden's ego will win at the end of it all. Like it always has. Democrats are putting their own political futures ahead of the good of the country. And when Biden loses in an embarrassingly massive blowout landslide, there won't be any introspection beyond "How can we blame the left for our failure?" Mark Warner has backed down from organizing Senators to get them to convince the President to drop out. House Leadership Democrats are being forced to recant their view that Biden needs to step aside after their call got leaked to Punchbowl News. The only ones that will face no pressure are Marie Glusenkamp Perez and Jared Golden who've already said Trump is going to win and they're okay with it. That's why I've predicted all this time that nothing is going to happen. What do you expect from this party though? They should have got some spine and had a proper primary and challenged him. Look how much infighting goes on in the GOP and it doesn't stop them. That's literally the whole thing. There's been a ton of attempted misdirection over the last several months (it's because of the economy! It's because of Gaza!) and while those things might be a slight factor, polling has been overwhelmingly consistent that most people's biggest problem with Biden is that he looks physically and mentally incapable of serving another 4-year term. It's why the unambiguously best option for the Democratic party was always Biden announcing sometime around September that he didn't plan on seeking re-election and allowing a full primary for his replacement to take place. Because the real reason people don't want to vote for him is something that quite literally cannot improve before the election, and will only get worse. The economy can improve, inflation can slow down, he can start pushing back more aggressively against Israel/Netanyahu, but he can't get younger. This election is not going to be decided by any meaningful policy issue - it's entirely coming down to "do we hate the crazy wannabe dictator so much that it's worth putting someone who looks like he's on his death bed in the biggest position of power in the country for another half-decade".
