Well, I agree. But even when it comes to success, they seem to be following a different trajectory from BP. Yes, they both have successful debuts but BP wasn’t considered the top GG WW until 2018 and the top GG in Korea until 2020. NewJeans is a phenomenon, BP was a slow burner especially in Korea (yes, it’s YG’s fault / strategy but it’s what it is). NewJeans is much more like Wonder Girls, TWICE, 2NE1 - phenomenons.

BPs debut single literally had a PAK :dies: But anyways i agree that NewJennies seem to be bigger in Korea in their first year than BP in their first year but you definitely CANT compare their first years globally when k-pop is literally 10 times bigger now globally than 6 years ago :rip: There is a reason why everyone is suddenly selling so much

ratmys hate women in kpop so obviously there's no correlation between NJ's smashery and ratmys' support.

NJ being from HYBE was a huge push tho

So the Armys are behind NJ now, while paying LSRF dust?

the Garamgate did put off a lot of people during debut (including me)

I'm glad they're bouncing back :clap3:

I thought BP had a massive debut, like i remember Whistle getting a pak and Boombayah being in the top 10 at the same time. Twice's debut was more like a slow burner, debuting at 22 and peaking at 10. :giraffe:

SM really need to do something regarding Aespa. Because they are the group who promoted the most in the US this year but still can’t debut in the Spotify US.

Meanwhile NJ and IVE who haven’t put a foot there are debuting there despite non having a full period tracking…

Not only in the US but streaming wise they’re so behind their peers :toofunny3:. Idk how you can have such big physicals sales but in terms of streams doing such mid numbers.

Aespa is coming to dethrone NJ as the NGG. We are not ready for their 3 million + selling album and another next level sized smash; it’s coming

I don’t think it’s just Armys that are listening to Ditto. :deadbanana: The song just has huge international appeal + building off the debut smashery

Hirate Yurina (The Princess of JPOP) has joined HYBE :clap3:

image and marketing really go a long way in Kpop… the proof is NewJeans. because in no other genre would a group say they would make "easy listening" music (read: background music) and then actually be praised for releasing such

Let’s not act NJ’s fandom doesn’t consist of these little 7. You think they would sell 500k albums without being in HYBE.

Nothing bad that’s how Big3 dominated

and LSR has a lot of hybe stans.

you just made that up…like

Hirate Yurina as in former-Keyakizaka46 member Hirate Yurina? :deadbanana2:

she's pretty talented(and was a great center for her group) but she doesn't really stand out as a solo act, I heard she's doing acting now

It was a successful debut but not enough to turn them into phenomenons like NewJeans. Playing With Fire and AIIYL were blocked in the charts. TWICE, Red Velvet and Mamamoo were bigger than them in Korea in 2016 - 2017. TWICE’s first song was a slow burner but after Cheer Up (their first comeback) everything they released went #1 easily, kinda like NewJeans rn.

NewJeans serves art, emotions and relatable themes, not only for their peers, but for the older generations too - they aren’t focusing on good looking, luxurious videos and overproduced, polished songs that every other group is serving and that’s what will make them big

also the girls are super cute and seem to be  very friendly and natural too, they don’t give that „manufactured” feeling

Anyways, NewJeans is not the new Twice or BP, but they are definitely phenomenons in the way TWICE was.

Now we need JYP to fire everyone under division 4 and snatch former SM staffs like that company I can’t imagine them slaying songs like Replay or Ring Ding Dong :loki:

We can’t really say that NJ success is because them when they couldn’t save their faves solos :deadvision: And people need to understand that there are people listening to Kpop and not living with on internet and those are streaming NJ on Spotify right now :clap3:

Where did I said that NJ success is bc of them? All I said is that some armys might have chose to stan them and they might be bt$ successor for them. That’s why some big accounts hyped their release. Just yesterday, for exemple there were a big (with 1,5 million followers ) army account that was hyping NewJeans release. Which caused a mess bc some army were fuming. Another big account also mentioned how they didn’t felt this feeling since bangtan debut and more exemples… (tweet was deleted ofc some armys were mad af)

Ofc they have their own and different fan base + the gp.

I wish SVT and NewJeans weren’t a part of HYBE  but I have to stan.

SM acts seem to have relatively meh streaming across the board in terms of mainstream Kpop acts. Aespa is unfortunately part of that trend :jonny2: maybe they can break from it, but I do agree that SM must be feeling really disappointed at the amount of US promo they've given Aespa since last year (including a US distribution deal!!!) only for Aespa to still miss top 200 on US Spotify. they're fine otherwise, but I think it might literally just be some kind of SM fandom curse :toofunny3:

It’s not bc they aren’t using luxurious items that it means that the video is not luxurious. Their mv costed a lot! It’s not some cheap nugu videos lol! A lot of money is invested in their visuals and in their marketing let’s not lie to ourselves…

And Are we forgetting how many millions MHJ got for their debut :deadbanana4:???

They are right. Just like NMIXX were able to sold 400k copies in their debut with a blind package

cuz min heeheejin knows youth gives off a more innocent/authentic feel

newjeans is a concept group. no one is stanning for talent. even their ig follows min hee jin. it's clear from the start they are an art project

sure they are a concept group, every kpop group has a concept that affects the members more or less, but I find it refreshing that they seem authentic and just being themeselves - they don’t feel camera ready, they are quirky, naturally switching languages, weird sounding sometimes, they personality shows and that’s captivating - it even shows in their performances, they are not told to act like robots and follow the choreo perfectly but to add their own flavor which elevates it even more

of course I don’t mean they got 5$ and did what we see now :deadbanana4: I’m talking about the end product which is not beauty shots, good angles and mostly box sets

Aespa’s streaming stats appear even more tragic when you take into consideration the fact that they headlined Coachella main stage and releaseda full English song and video along with it! :rip::rip:

You have these girls that haven’t even stepped foot in the US out streaming them with ease :rip:

You basically just described every SM act. The thing with SM is that they are forcing things in the West, even though they are dominating in Asia. SM should’ve waited longer before sending aespa to the US.
