I'm not saying Reputation SHOULD have smashed because 1989 smashed (otherwise, no artists who ever had a smash era would ever flop), but as long as the music was good and she rightfully addressed the Kanye drama, it was bound to be a success. I'm not saying she had nothing going against her, but things were clearly not as bad as it is often portrayed, at least in the real world (can't speak for the stan world cause I was clearly not invested like that at the time).
