No, I get it, and I actually agree with you. I just think the fact that this even matters to us is indicative of a major shift in how her fanbase engages with her and her output.

In the past, it wasn't really commonplace to see Rihanna fans discussing what she represented or how the public perceived her. Compared to Beyonce fans, for example, who always proudly touted Beyonce's public standing and image and how much respect she got, Rihanna fans tended to ignore external perceptions and focus on her. Sure, we celebrated her hits and success, but we didn't pay too much attention to how she was perceived by the larger public.

This was in large part because so much of the time the perception was negative, so we kinda had no choice but to focus mainly on her music and her growth as an artist. We could engage with her as an artist (and not the image other people have of her) because she continued to deliver the music, and we continued to see artistic and creative growth. Like, the fact that there are fans in here making it out as if people criticising her are doing so out of a desire for her to be perfect and live up to unrealistic standards is WILD. We've always been here through all the missteps because we knew there was an actual artist in there we could engage with. Now all we have is an image, and as long as other people like this image, as long as "the GP loves her," we're apparently supposed to celebrate.

Jokes aside, this is such a good take and one that I haven’t really thought about too. I’m so tired of having to hear “Oh but the GP ate that up” or “Whatever, she got a standing ovation” or “She’s still outstreaming these girls tho!” or “Yeah but she got paid more” and anything along the lines of those. Who cares about all that when it’s clear as day that we freaking MISSED the opportunity to witness her growth as an artist. We missed the ideas, the sounds, the visuals, the vocals, the looks, the trends, the shows, tours, performances, experiences… She was like 26 while recording most of Anti and she’s a completely different person now at 36 with a happy relationship, two adorable kids and multiple thriving businesses but we have no idea how all that shaped Rihanna the artist. All we’re left with is a bunch of streaming achievements and a big fat net worth and I guess that’s ok too as long as fans get to “brag” about something.

Even tho it was also frustrating at times, I would gladly take back the days where she wasn’t a GP darling but she had the drive to put something new and daring to the table and had the excitement of just constantly sharing with us. I’m not saying she should go back to being that way cause I understand people change and grow out of certain things. I’m just letting some of yall know that rubbing her Spotify stats on my face won’t make me feel better cause I be reminiscing over something completely different 🤷🏻‍♂️

I get the frustration....but I still believe she'll come back with new music (still have my bets on 2024) and it'll be her best output. I think she has lived more life, she's grown as a woman, business woman, and mother and I have to imagine that will feed her creativity more than ever. I think Anti was her fighting to have a voice and do things her own way.....I'm hoping R9 is her maturation as a woman who knows her power and willing to explore new sounds, push her own boundaries, and make bold statements....I think she knows that people aren't 'only' interested in her delivering bops but they also want to hear what she has to say. Alot of the respect she's earned during her hiatus has to do with people coming to admire her authenticity as a popstar/celebrity, her unmatched catalog, and the way she  been able to establish herself as a very smart and esteemed business woman.

:gaycat7:Sorry you see it that way.

I feel like if she started declining hard it would be even worse for her to feel like releasing music, so I get my hopes high seeing there is still so much demand for her music, and I feel like that makes it easier for her to release and not be that bothered for it to 'have to meet certain numbers'

From now on, we should schedule meltdowns. All the regulars get 1 or 2 meltdowns per week and it can last 1 hour. Stay strong, we will get through this
