Sheep Posted October 27 Posted October 27 she clearly wanted a FN type trajectory but aided by FAD hype. The FAD hype never happened so I'm sure her team is in panic mode. She has the best team in the industry, I'm sure they're doing the best they can. 1 1
Beamon Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I think the mv is PHENOMENAL, that's why they're waiting to release it 1

Her speaking about the album as something she didn't really want to do & BloodPop forcing her became the prevailing theme of a lot of criticism too, but frankly it's bullshit. You can see pure Gaga all over the lyrics, even in the stuff that has lukewarm production like Free Woman. There are plenty of songs on Chromatica that stack up to her best musically, bring new flavours to her discography & even vocally she's not "tuned out" or "lifeless" at all. The dumbest interpretation of the album is that she is just pandering to fans who wanted dance pop after two "real instrument" eras. Like gurl, 911 or Replay is anything but by the numbers and their lyrics clear anything on insincere Joanne, sorry. The critics had it RIGHT on this one. Oh, I agree, the lyrics are distinctly Gaga on that one! Joanne... Let's say I'm not the biggest fan of it haha. I could see how even to Gaga herself J might've felt like a more sincere project, but yeah, the content matter of Chromatica and pure fact she was willing to explore a new (for her) sound make it anything but inauthentic and pandering. I still view it as a quality album I like to revisit once in a while. 1

amamoy Posted October 27 Posted October 27 And can we just take a moment to appreciate Gaga's creative diversity? The woman has put out electropop, jazz, country, house and whatnot music and ventured in acting with full-on persistence in the span of past 10 years. I love how she stays an artist first and foremost, and never shies away from trying out new things to help put her art out there. That's also why I'm not so worried about her chart success. Whatever the outcomes, she'll always have this artistic integrity in her and that's way more valuable imo. 3

ROARyals Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I prayyy for a 5-7% dip - the same Die With a Smash got. Honestly with all the positive reception it's getting from the GP, reactors (i know), and publications - plus the insane playlist reach? How does this not grow like DWAS did?
opbranden Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I'm sorry but I still can't belive how good Disease is 3

And while I'm on my soapbox I wanna point the shotgun at "Disease is just Lady Gaga cosplaying as her past self to give her fans what they want" - You're not getting away with that dumb fuckery two eras in a row. If Disease had a stuttering vocal hook, minor key verse with major key chorus, and big obnoxious saw wave pads, then maybe they'd have a point. If you can't hear how much she's enjoying herself on Disease (or Replay live for that matter) then you're disqualified from being taken seriously as a critique because she never does it straight down the middle like Katy or Ava Max would. Who else is writing synthpop songs in ******* Phrygian mode! There's a reason that every Gaga daughter and imitation has not been able to nail the delicate balance of theatrical and raw without coming across as basic or too calculated. She's the blueprint of this genre and constantly compared to her past self because she is one of the smartest pop writers -- and it's not because she wraps lyrics with hidden meanings and puzzles and ****, but because of how she can craft a HOOK out of syllables unexpectedly and make discordant words into so-wrong-its-right using the absolute WEAPON of her voice. You're so tortured when you sleep Plagued with all your memories You reach out, and no one's there Like a god without a prayer Nobody else is writing that in their lead single sent to radio, and definitely not straining it out as if the beat is physically attacking her like she does. It's "similar to past work" in the sense that it's in the same genre as she's done her best work in but it's NOT by any means a retread creatively and I am EXCITED to see what else she's made that she has clearly been so excited about this year. 6 5
