Disease is a great song but it was a bad lead single choice. I've said it before but I assume her team was hoping to capitalise on the virality of Bloody Mary by releasing another dark pop banger around Halloween but you can't engineer a moment like that. BM is one of her best most unique songs and it took a decade and a random tiktok trend to finally take off.  

 

I just wish her team was better at this. They've never seemed to know what songs will take off and what songs won't.

for the GREAT, GREAT majority of her career her singles were solo. Until ASIB her only major hits with collabs were Telephone and Just Dance (and JD was released before she even was established).

 

99% of pop stars 15+ years into their career struggle to get big hits, so if collabs help get her name out there, why not?

 

also, none of these songs have Gaga as a featured act. It's all Gaga as the lead or a 50/50 duet. Which proves people are interested in GAGA and her contribution to the tracks success is undeniable in all cases

I remember we were so annoyed at her lack of features during the 2010's, and Bradley wouldn't even count if Shallow wasn't such a hit. Chromatica was her first involvement in big-tent features since Telephone.

 

Also none of her features are half-assed, which makes her discography even more impressive.

The Joker FAD fiasco was so blown out of proportion 

 

It wasn't the best film ever but it certainly wasn't THAT horrible 

 

It will age better in culture with time, but either way, she needs to be more careful with her movie role choices

I really hope her silence brings us everything at once. Cover, tracklist, new single, new music video, pre-order/pre-save and photoshoot. I believe she is on the works of something really special to "promote" the new record. Or no.  We can only hope for the best because QUALITY, TALENTRY, ARTISTRY, GOOD MUSIC & CHARTS are here.

i think she trying to do the opposite this era. chromatica she gave us everything (some call it frontloaded) so now i think shes waiting til after the album.

Considering it shares a release window with Die With a Smile (for the gp) and Harlequin (passion project for Gaga herself), it makes perfect sense that she would lead with an elevated and evolved dark bop. It's a perfect lead single to introduce the era stylistically and is some of her very best dance music quality-wise. Whether it hit #1 has very little to do with whether it was "good" or "bad."
