the way every interview about Chroma was her being like "Bloodpop made me go downstairs to my home studio... I didn't want to... I didn't want to tour... I didn't want to record music..."

yes she was bitter than Joanne ended up not healing her father, but that was such a hopeless attempt... she was everywhere screaming how proud she was of Joanne

not saying she hates Chroma but she made sure to detach herself from that album like crazy, even her Grammy win for it, she spent days silent and posted a thank u message a week later or so while she was so happy to celebrate Bloody Mary being on radio despite in both cases being in the middle or at the start of shooting movies

Part of it might have to do with the fact that she associates the album with a really bad depressive episode from trauma in her life... I remember her mentioning around HoG filming how Chromatica was no longer who she was. I hope she has not felt as bad or unmotivated to be Lady Gaga since then, for her sake and ours.

Just heard 'Stupid Love' used on a promo for tv show in here, the song is truly not the abomination some of you and the rest of this site makes out of it, especially if they still use this song 4 years later for something like that.

yes, thematically it makes sense tbh, she was in a very depressive state after JWT cancellation

she lost her best friend, her engagement fell off again, she cancelled her tour, Joanne ended up not healing her father at all, her fibro was at its peak

The way she transitioned into a lighter voice during this part at TCB which helped emphasize the melody

So y’all never get sick of talking about how she has no passion hates chromatica blah blah blah or what

I disagree that she wasn't passionate about making Chromatica. You could see the passion in the extensive world-building she was doing with the tribes and Chromatica map.

She just wasn't passionate about continuing a derailed era. Many love to point out that Dua kept her Future Nostalgia era going during the pandemic but her respective era had already had time to flourish before shutdowns, whereas Chromatica landed right smack at the beginning of the outbreak. I too would have been mad and completely over it if my huge rollout came to a crash. You don't plan a rollout that big for a project you're not passionate about.

Gaga is different than most popstars in that she's deeply involved in her work. Most of her peers offload the writing, production, art direction, etc. onto other professionals. I really believe she had passion for Chromatica, an album with and RPG-esque world that felt inspired by her love of video game franchises like Bayonetta.

In short, lack of passion for promo =/= lack of passion for her work

seeing how well her relationship with Mr. Polansky is doing (4 years and counting) I hope this is indicative that she's feeling good overall

It's one of my favourite eras visually but I remember her saying that the visual came from bloodpop putting up walls of posters around her to inspire her so idk if the concept (which ended up not being executed further than ROM music video - 911 mv and the tour are a drastic change) disproves anything that was said here.

the kii... it was a moment!

I personally was bummed that Gaga dropped Chromatica less than a week into its release, but the timing couldn't have been more unfortunate. The pandemic was in full swing and really limited how artists could promote their music.

Even worse, the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent shitshow that embroiled that United States completely eclipsed any potential album rollout. My fellow gheys in the US surely remember how crazy things got at the time. She would have been eviscerated if she had just continued plugging her new music on social media, which was pretty much the only available option for promo at the time.

Either way, aside from getting more performances, music videos, and interviews I'm not sure things would have panned out that much better regarding sales or streams.

I love Chromatica always will of course era could’ve been better but other things were important to her and that’s okay. I still love the album and can’t wait for what’s next!

I agree that Joanne era was a lot better than Chromatica. I started stanning after ARTPOP and these are the only two pop album eras I experienced as a stan and Joanne had much more content while Chromatica felt like a never-ending desert of content.

Do you mind if I ask what made you become a Gaga stan after Artpop? I've always been curious how she seemed to gain hardcore stans after what was such a messy era that simultaneously saw her losing stans.

I know it's a running joke how the gheyz dropped her after ARTPOP but...the amount of young stans I see on Twitter/TikTok is kinda shocking to me :rip: I keep telling myself "What's there to stan HARD these days when you've missed the golden days" but I guess the strong grip she has on the homosexuals is forever.

It helps that so many of the newer artists just aren’t compelling.

Yeah it's really intriguing to me because ASIB and the first half of Chromatica were the first time post-ARTPOP newbies got to see Gaga at her best.

Maybe they just went back through her pre-ARTPOP work and that was enough to sell them?

Honestly this is so true. As messy as ARTPOP was it's still 1000x more interesting than what most new acts deliver now. :rip:

True. Nothing truly came close to her early eras, the last superstar I fear. A least they get to relive everything through the TikToks edits. The way catalog music consumption keeps growing and stomping current music is helping many new people get into her discography as well.

No. She just copies that ‘Dot’ (the actual insider) and when she gets bored in between times she makes vague nonsense up to fit it round what we already know to pass time
