Omg

wonder if this is an actual push or just random! I hope they at least digital package it up and send it to playlist considerations. Lighthouse got a bit of a boost on streaming purely for the digital repackage

Oh cool! How did you find out it was on their playlists?

edit: just saw this tweet… 44 times is quite a lot in a week for something that hasn't been sent officially!

I think this is the thing that annoys me about Atlantic: they don't think fast on their feet. It's a trend that for me would continue if they don't take advantage of this organic interest in DTY (regardless of any upcoming plans unless these plans are imminent imminent).

Like we know, there are lots of rumblings that Kelly has turned down opportunities and that's obviously fine, she has other priorities for her job/life. But also the label should be able to take advantage of certain opportunities digitally and without much/any input from Kelly (like how many artists are doing promo these days). I think (and I might be wrong) that Kelly said she didn't care about what they did with the singles this era, and that's fine from her end, but it does put the ball in Atlantic's court to actually try and think of the best strategy.

The examples of Atlantic not taking advantage of situations or messing up single rollouts for me (that I can think of from the top of my head - and they are varying in opportunity potential but when combined it's pretty annoying).

Pre-Atlantic: PBP Idol - this isn't Atlantic but this is a clear example of how RCA knew how to pivot. PBP as a single wasn't doing anything and the radio mix wasn't it. BUT, when the idol performance took off, RCA (with Atlantic's permission I think) took full advantage of the moment in its IMMEDIATE aftermath. Like IMMEDIATELY. They re-recorded a version like the performance, repackaged the album and sent out a remixes EP. They knew what to do to take advantage when an opportunity arose.

Anyways, Atlantic single potentials lost:

1. LSS, they couldn't really put more effort in the domestic market, and kudos for them for trying there but as a single choice it's the one that lost her biggest international markets: the UK and Australia, and then the subsequent lack of MoL tour in any other country (not even a Canadian show) kinda killed the international aspect of her fanbase - but as an individual single, in fairness they tried hard and it didn't pay off, and I think Atlantic have been playing catch up since this "over-investment" in a song that didn't do much.

2. IDTAY/Medicine/Heat/MoL - the indecision over the second and third singles with an array of live performances and dances on tiktok, just felt like after LSS they were throwing whatever they could at the wall and nothing took off.

3. WLW - HOWEVER, WLW, as much as I personally don't care for it, was the album's hit. It is currently having higher daily streams than any of the songs on MoL other than LSS, and it had potential to be taken advantage of with its iconic usage in Ru Paul's Drag Race. Add in the huge gap between eras, a simple send to radio or a digital single (like lighthouse/IWGU) as an era closer wouldve been the best possible use of "throw at the wall and see" tactic that they've been using. And yet they didn't use it on the one song it could've been a hit for. (Feels like DTY is going to be that same sort of song - albeit there's less viral potential imo)

4. Chemistry era - I don't know where to start with this TBH, but the again, throw many songs out and see tactic without throwing out one of the more likely successful singles is annoying. That said, I do think sending out a lot of songs beforehand was somewhat smart in the streaming era, but they got the selection wrong. DTY was the clear lead, especially given all the talk of the divorce at the time and its infectious hook. The find the flags for a piece of the song was a potential moment to push the song, but they decided to move elsewhere - fine if they had a clear idea of what to do, but with lighthouse being sent to streaming 2/3 days before the album meaning it didn't get the focus it could have for streaming, and then the sending it to radio and digitally repackaging it months after it fell off radio felt completely messy.

So with DTY having a sort of organic moment, Atlantic should strike now with a digital and radio single (unless they really do plan to release an Olympic/summer song in time for the Atlantic City shows - I feel like if there's a July single, there's enough time to try and see what happens with this).

Edit: my only reservation about this being sent as a single is that it should've been lead giving timing, but I don't know whether it would gain traction given the narrative has changed and moved away from the divorce, and that it's obviously already available on streaming/purchase platforms

Probably the most disappointing single she's released

but weirdly her last solo effort to chart :deadbanana4:

completely forgot about I dare you, damn that song is BAD :rip:

on another note, every time I listen to mine recently, its kinda giving classic, I wish they pushed it properly as a lead, I would have liked to see what it could have done if given the chance. (rock hudson and down to you deserved too, but I'm over dwelling on the missed opportunity that this great ass album was :rip:)

would've been cool if Kelly was featured on Cowboy Carter, given that they're both from Texas and Kelly can do country well :eli:

im always a bit wary of James Arthur due to initial behaviour when he first came on the scene…. But I imagine their voices will merge nicely

What did he do?

When he emerged on the scene I remember he was the first and only case of iTunes reimbursing someone for a music digital download. Reason was due to homophobia and iTunes never reimburse cos digital content is considered "instant consumables".

BUT, I do think that was just a mistake and not really relevant to his character a good decade later (saying that as a gay man lol) but I am always a bit "wary" cos of it

Oh interesting. I do see he doesn't stream as well in this new album as his past albums lol

I think it was his debut album (or sophomore album), so he bounced back. Dunno why his current stuff hasn't done as well as previous stuff (sounds the same to me).

The more I listen to the solo version, the more I can imagine it being pretty amazing. Will be interesting to see if they push it or whether it's just a remix - maybe leading off his deluxe version of the album

Hopefully they perform it on TKCS

I keep thinking of the possibility of the Olympics song and the timing of the AC shows. Trying to manifest it (at least in my mind). I keep also thinking how *if* they do release a *new* song for the Olympics, it would be smart to have FKOH (and maybe IWGU :deadbanana2:) on the digital single EP to pick up some more passive streams for the chemistry era

and I also keep thinking about her saying they just finished a song with Sia around the time of chemistry release… :gaycat3:

Rumours circulating the Kelly twitter standom that something is happening on the 26th April (would be the nearest Friday to her birthday and also the first Friday after the purported release of from the jump duet)
