I think you all need to realize back then the charts moved super fast, the UK chart had like 5 new entries in the top10 every week, so that influenced a lot. Even the rest of the european countries, the top10 changed a lot more frequently compared to now. You can't really compare it to songs spending a whole year in the top50 like some do these days, it was just not gonna happen back then.

Rihanna would be #2 but the chart got cancelled.

This.

The fact that she missed out on multiple “LOUD; TTT; UNA; ANTI” top tens + features.

:ahh:

Why did this chart go defunct in the first place, right before the ultimate peak of the digital era?  @Wildcat @naval23

It was such a great chart! I think it had to do with lack of funding from Billboard so they closed their European location

The fact that Rih was the last #1 too and Only Girl was about to be a 10+ week #1, imagine the slayage of WFL, S&M and Diamonds and Stay, FFS :jonnycat:

:ahh:

She would have had at least 30 top tens.

true because they were purely sales oriented unlike the Hot 100 which was more Airplay oriented

Basically what happened was that as print media lost its value, Billboard lost a lot of its advertising revenue, as most of its revenue was generated by labels placing advertisements for singles and albums. As a consequence, at the end of the late 2000s Billboard was in a complicated position. At a time when the magazine was losing its popularity in the US, global coverage was hardly a priority for Billboard. Therefore, in 2009 Nielsen sold it to e5 Global Media Holdings, a private equity group, and they completely retooled the magazine. They cut down any additional fat they could so that the magazine could be rebranded by making it more contemporary i.e. by having more attractive, big name pop stars cover the magazine more often and reintroducing the Billboard Music Awards to help recapture some of Billboard's brand image. Among the unnecessary fat that was cut down was the London-based staff which ran the European Hot 100.
