worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 XII. ARCADIA - LANA DEL REY i have been waiting for this song ever since lana posted the snippet onto her now deactivated twitter page. now that i have it in my library, i can't find the words to express just how grateful i am. the lyrics are really poetic and alluring in my opinion like.... that opening line is iconic.
worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 (edited) XI. MY SLIME - FOUSHEE foushee was my favorite musical discovery that tiktok has to offer. deep end went viral earlier this year and with her debut record, time machine she provided listeners with the indie love song my slime. a lush, dreamy ode to that special person in her life, she perfectly captures feelings of infatuation. worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 X. YOUR POWER - BILLIE EILISH yes we all love the title track but personally, i very much prefer the confessional, guitar-assisted your power. i really commend billie for letting us into a personal and disturbing aspect of her adolescent experience. whether it be from a family friend, a much older partner or someone singing you sweet nothings over the internet. you've most likely been where billie was and for her to tackle issues like grooming in an almost perfectly constructed song was more than exemplary but necessary as well. thank you billie eilish.
worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 IX. YOU CAN'T SIT WITH US - SUNMI atrocious rap aside, sunmi gave the girls a certified grit and everyone will pay for letting her flop commercially! anyways, sunmi does well in injecting profound and meaningful methods into her music but she also knows how to create an earworm.
worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 VIII. GONE - ROSÉ roseanne park delivered two serves on her solo debut and while on the ground was cute, gone stands as the clear highlight of the two. you can feel the heartbreak in her voice and the rhythm of the song is catchy and also melancholic.
worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 (edited) VII. PAIN - PINKPANTHERESS the song that started it all. a sweet confection of pop, UK garage and drum n' bass resulted in one of the year's best singles from a uni. student based in england. sometimes i wish it were four minutes and other times, i appreciate the quick climax that leads into a haunting yet savory conclusion. worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 VI. BOUNCIN' - TINASHE it's all over the place, the poppy moments sound dated as hell and at it's worst it sounds very sloppy but enough about 333 in a world of undo's and let me down slowly's, be a bouncin'. be energetic, unique and futuristic like a top tier tinashe track should sound like.
worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 V. THE OTHER SIDE - JAZMINE SULLIVAN this is objectively the best song off of heaux tales tales thus it is basically song of the decade, no? but seriously, i love the way jazmine explored the many fears and aspirations of black women across the country and highlighted the connection between the two emotions by way of an impeccable r&b hymn
worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 IV. BORN YESTERDAY - ARCA yeah boo sia with her ableist ass boo! anyways arca is that girl and y'all will have to deal! in a perfect world, this would have been sitting up with the likes of driver's license and abcefu as the most successful break up anthems of the year. this song reeks of vulnerability and justified rage.
worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 III. DRAMA - ERIKA DE CASIER mentioned before, a lot of people have jumped on the y2k-wave however, no one does it better than erika de casier. the way this would have been all over trl and bet while battling against the boy is mine for the number one spot had this been released in 1998 but it sounds so crisp and refreshing in a landscape dominated by phoned-in verses and dreary, repetitive beats.
worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 II. WILD SIDE - NORMANI the girls have been praying on miss mani's downfall just for her to end the year with one of the biggest r&b hits of the year. unlike others, normani did not rely completely on a popular sample but injected her own personality and talents into the song and its equally excellent music video. while cardi sounds great, normani clearly dominates throughout the song. don't get me wrong, we need the DEBUT ALBUM but i have complete faith that normani will deliver an amazing body of work based off of this alone.
worldwide angel Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 AND THE SONG OF THE YEAR IS I. NEED TO KNOW - DOJA CAT 2021 was DOJA'S YEAR! while planet her has a wide variety of hits, need to know is the clear superior single. the way it manages to tap into the early 2010s pop sound without sounding reductive is noteworthy. it gives me peak-BEP teas but has a sense of futurism accompanying that nostalgic sound. personally, this was a bit of a grower and yet when it clicked, IT CLICKED! i love everything: the beat, the flow, the lyrics, the production, the moans. EVERYTHING!
