Oh the banner is cute, a nice mashup :gaynetcat3:

LYWW Vol 3 is nice, but yeah, Vol 2 was superior for sure. Cashmere being your favorite  Definitely in my trinity.

V.  UNLIMITED AMMO - NAMASENDA

Unlimited Ammo by Namasenda (Mixtape, Bubblegum Bass): Reviews, Ratings, Credits, Song list - Rate Your Music

:katie2:

after about two years of what i would like to call

"hyperpop fatigue" minus the queen charli,

namasenda has lived up to the hype and dropped

one of the best mixtapes this year. it reminds me

of the early stages of PC music where the emphasis

was on the songs sounding great, polished and up-tempo.

unlimited ammo captures the essence of a hannah diamond

yet produces something unique to namasenda.

if you're looking to get into namasenda, i would start with donuts

and the accompanying ep and then hop into this sea of

good-good. the mixtape is cohesive, it comes with its own

personality and most importantly, it comes with the bops

top track: banana clip

genre: bubblegum bass, electropop

IV. FOREVER25 - KAMEN

FOREVER25 (DELUXE VERSION) - Album by Kamen | Spotify

:katie2:

thee literal definition of r&b excellence! i got put onto

kamen by one of my mutuals on twitter (thank you trey!)

and on first listen i have been blown away by how marvelous

this EP is. i believe this is his first full project and kamen already

comes through with a polished sound and exceptionally soothing

vocals to enhance the overall feel of the project.

the album oozes in confidence and quite honestly contains

what might be missing in male r&b today, originality :cm:

at no point does the EP give throwaway [x artist] beats and

that is truly commendable, i recommend you all give

FOREVER25 a stream.

top track: real

genre: contemporary r&b

III.  1/6 - SUNMI

1/6 - Single by SUNMI | Spotify

:katie2:

i know i am very, very late to the party but i'm

so grateful to have discovered this serve of an

EP before the year ended. i was on twitter and

one of my other mutuals (thanks k!) quote

tweeted a tweet with the music video and i

was gagging :jonny4:

i thought the lead single "you can't sit with us"

was a serve but the entire EP slams. sunmi does

the disco influenced sound that's reignited in the

late 2010s with a level of genuineness that is quite

rare to be honest. plus, the city pop influences do not

go unappreciated.  after reading up on the lyrics,

the album tackles so much in the best way possible.

we get to hear about how sunmi deals with everyday

human emotions and how that is impacted by her BPD.

i really loved the approach she took with this EP and i now

consider myself a sunmi stan in the making because of this

amazing project.

top track: 1/6

genre: k-pop, bubblegum pop, dance pop

II. SOMETHING FOR THEE HOTTIES - MEGAN THEE STALLION

Something for thee Hotties by Megan thee Stallion (Mixtape, Southern Hip Hop): Reviews, Ratings, Credits, Song list - Rate Your Music

:katie2:

its the way megan continues to surprise me and

get me together with each new release. thot shit

alone was everything for me and then some but

this compilation was everything i wanted good

news to be.

good news is, in fact great in my opinion but

it was clearly affected by the year megan had

as well as ongoing label disputes. however, meg

put all that energy into a 10/10 project that reminded

me of the many reasons why i love her.

the bars are there :cm:

the branding is there :cm:

the stellar production is there :cm:

honestly this is sitting in her top three for me and

it's not three. megan comes through with a lot of

clever yet refreshing hooks, interesting shade and

best of all, the bops and anthems but bigger

and better.

top track: let me see it

genre: southern hip hop, rap, trap

I. HEAUX TALES - JAZMINE SULLIVAN

Cover art for Heaux Tales by Jazmine Sullivan

:katie2:

this is what we call quality. a project that takes

something so simple and universal as love and

adds significant nuances and perspectives to

eventually create a timeless, cohesive record.

there's been a lot of talk about who's going to

save r&b and what does r&b need to survive

beyond the 2020s and honestly, alongside

several others who have made this year end

list, jazmine is one of the few artists who

have preserved the genre well and continue

to expand upon it in a meaningful way.

we get various perspectives of black women

whether they be queer, idealistic or whether

they be tackling issues such as body image

and class.  jazmine just handles these

various topics with a poignancy that very

few have to their credit.

plenty of people have made a comparison

with heaux tales and lauryn hill's the

miseducation of lauryn hill  and i definitely

caught on to a mother-daughter relationship between

the two works.

top track: the other side

genre: contemporary r&b neo-soul

Namasenda, Jazmine and Sunmi :clap3:

The hyperpop era maybe dying now but Namasenda pulled it off with her album this year

Sunmi kept on delivering this year despite flopping consecutively

Heaux Tales is really that album, she really put all of her pussy energy there :clap3:

Uhh immaculate, I know I have to revisit Heaux cause I kinda liked it, but it's super acclaimed so I'm sure there is more to unfold on next listeners.

BUT Something for Thee Hotties and 1/6 are fucking great :jonny2:
