TheWayWeWere Posted December 20, 2021 Posted December 20, 2021 Planet Her I love most of it, but I still see it as underwhelming follow-up to perfection Hot Pink tbh but it's probably HP was so good
BlackoutZone Posted December 20, 2021 Posted December 20, 2021 95 YESSS It might be making an appearance on my BO next year, she snapped Happy to see Arca and Montero too!

Pink Matter Posted December 20, 2021 Posted December 20, 2021 Yes Doja yes LNX And totally agree about Planet Her, songs I didn't really care for ended up growing on me in the end!

worldwide angel Posted December 22, 2021 Author Posted December 22, 2021 V. HAPPIER THAN EVER - BILLIE EILISH despite all of the attempts to question, slander and dispose of billie, i can proudly say that i'm glad that i started to stick up for her. from the very moment we got the HTE snippet, i was immensely excited to see where billie would go next. happier than ever is a mature, adventurous record that sees billie play with sounds she mastered on her juggernaut debut but also try her hand at different genres, some of which she should delve deeper in. billie's always had a personality however this album screams BILLIE to me. i've learned so much about her relationship history, her mental health and thoughts on fame and its all been intriguing at the least. as genre-bouncing(?) as this record is, there's is a lingering cohesion that ties all sixteen songs into an exquisite assortment of odes to various emotions and experiences. this is no doubt her best work yet and i'm excited to see where she goes next. she went from an artist comparable to lorde and lana to almost a younger, mainstream companion to that of st. vincent (IN MY OPINION) ! they're both talented artists that lie in between alternative and pop so i would love to see a collab of sorts between them. top tracks: billie bossa nova, overheated, everybody dies genre: alternative-pop, electropop
worldwide angel Posted December 22, 2021 Author Posted December 22, 2021 IV. OVERGROWN - JOYCE WRICE one of the most overlooked yet most cherished albums to drop this year. joyce wrice comes in swinging with a largely flawless, focused and lush record that threatens to overshadow other records for years to come. i see this becoming a huge cult classic in the near future just due to the amount of talent displayed in this record. some of the songs are big billboard moments waiting to happen while others feel like floating on a cloud of white sugar grains, having no worry whatsoever during the passing minutes. generally discovered via word of mouth, joyce wrice joins the many internet idols who've carved a niche of their own with nothing but viral moments and quality music. i wholeheartedly recommend getting into this collection of sensual, pop leaning R&B songs that are reminiscent of the early 2000s. top tracks: losing, that's on you (japanese remix) genre: contemporary r&b, pop-soul
worldwide angel Posted December 22, 2021 Author Posted December 22, 2021 III. SKIN - JOY CROOKES if overgrown was overlooked then skin by joy crookes has seemingly gone under the radar until recently (YAS BRITs). i first heard of joy when her song feet don't fail me now found its way to my twitter timeline. her voice is very reminiscent of amy winehouse yet has it's own alluring timbre that keeps your attention on joy herself. skin is a strong compilation of earnest lyrics discussing love, family and politics without beating the messages over your head. that's not the say that she cleverly hides her perspectives behind metaphors to please listeners. if you're in search of an honest, introspective record that pulls from pioneers of soul yet sound so contemporary, please give joy crookes a chance. top tracks: unlearn you, theek ache genre: neo-soul, pop-soul
worldwide angel Posted December 22, 2021 Author Posted December 22, 2021 II. STILL OVER IT - SUMMER WALKER i have always loved summer's music but still over it takes that adoration to a new level. i was initially worried about the twenty track long record however i found myself loving every single second of this album and i am not exaggerating. maybe it was the icy r&b beats that dominate this album or the combination of summer's passionate lyrics coupled with her emotive tone but i thoroughly enjoyed what summer brought to this record. we got new productions of legends like pharrell as well as stunning collaborations with the likes of sza, cardi b, ari lennox, and the omarion variant omarion. hot take but this album reminds me of the way people talked about invasion of privacy or even usher's confessions just by the way these artists were able to comment on their relationships, especially the latter record. top tracks: constant bullshit, dat right there, no love genre: contemporary r&b
worldwide angel Posted December 22, 2021 Author Posted December 22, 2021 I. SENSATIONAL - ERIKA DE CASIER anyone that knows me could have seen this coming but i owe every bit of my happiness and growth experienced in 2021 to the lovely legend in the making, erika de casier. sensational came in a time of transition for me. i was preparing for my return to on campus learning, my senior year, and after almost a year of self-learning and maturity in isolation, sensational fell into my laps naturally, almost like an essential treat for what was to come. erika's strongest suit is the way she perfectly encapsulates the sound of Y2K-R&B in a period where many have tried to do so without avail. moreover, erika doesn't merely copy the likes of sade, craig david or even a 90s janet jackson but captures the essence of their musicality and apply it to her original framework. sensational sees erika introduce the character of bianca in order to discuss themes of draining relationships, confidence and working under capitalism. you get the slow-jams that eerily echo the ones your parents played in dim lit rooms as well as the obscure, club-ready tracks that leave you longing for an eternal night of pure enjoyment. i've refrained from mentioning tracks however insult me perfectly captured the feeling of being neglected. while erika's was most likely from a romantic point of view, i personally related it to feelings of neglect as a child (think love me wrong by allie x & troye sivan). i love the hollowness of the record and the seemingly apathetic tone erika employs, as if she's already given up on the relationship as a whole. all in all, erika de casier and sensational should be celebrated by music listeners worldwide and i'm happy to name it my . . . ALBUM OF THE YEAR

TalkThatRihanna Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 (edited) MONTERO was definitely cute for its first few weeks but I haven’t gone back to it bar the singles Planet Her stanning Happier Than Ever was definitely a solid cohesive follow up to her debut! And I am LOVING the high ranking for Still Over It It’s a classic on arrival! The way she made a long ass album like that with barely any skips Edited December 22, 2021 by TalkThatRihanna
Ewan Chaos Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Totally agree with your write-up on Billie. Whoa interesting comparison to St. Vincent. As much as it's NOT fair to compare Billie to this person... I almost wanna compare her more to a lesser version of Fiona? Not to downgrade Billie, but c'mon it's Fiona. 2 albums I need to check out, 1 I probably won't like, and your number one, OH YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!!!!! Love to see you enjoying the album in a time that was matched your personal life too, always special when that happens. And Insult Me, yeah!!!! Underrated track for sure!
Tinashegrande6 Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Joy Crookes has some really nice tracks, but I haven't heard her full album yet. Also yes at the Still Over It inclusion, almost skippless I fear
dreamofyou Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 i definitely prefer HTE to her debut, which is an unpopular opinion
Alex Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 HTE and Still Over It I haven't listened to the Erika album but I love "Drama"
Lazuli Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 happier than ever ofc summer's album is cute!
TheWayWeWere Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 HTE was pretty amazing, after string of underwhelming singles it works so good as a whole
BlackoutZone Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Oh I absolutely knew Erika has that in the bag! Love to see Summer album so high too Great list as expected king
