Namasenda, Megan and Jasmine acclaim :jonny5: It's what they deserve!

Sunmi raise too yaas it's so good to see her developing the type sounds that she's really comfortable with. Even if it's completely flop on the chart but she will always be famous (to me) :jonny5:

HEAUX TALES - JAZMINE SULLIVAN

I think I heard this record many months ago and there was a track I particularly liked, but I don't quite remember which one. Let me check it again. :cupid:

 I. LAST YEAR WAS WEIRD VOL. 3 - TKAY MAIDZA

Tkay Maidza: Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 3 Album Review | Pitchfork

:flower:

by no means was this an easy decision to make.

nonetheless, maidza's final volume of the 'last

year was weird' series left more to be desired.

tkay released excellent singles this year such as

'kim' featuring part time barb, part time rapper

yung baby tate  and the lush 'cashmere' however

the project as a whole was a bit underwhelming

compared to her current magnum opus 'last year

was weird vol. 2'.

unlike the other two HMs, tkay has done what she set

out to do with this trilogy: successfully reinvented herself

and crafted a sound of her own which is a lot considering

some of the biggest stars in the world have yet to do the same.

perhaps i went in with too high expectations.

top track: cashmere

genre: pop-rap, alternative pop

I seen her on a few lists, I need to check this out

The hyperpop era maybe dying now but Namasenda pulled it off with her album this year

Sunmi kept on delivering this year despite flopping consecutively

Heaux Tales is really that album, she really put all of her pussy energy there :clap3:

plotting to get "you can't sit with us" tiktok viral as we speak

and exactly, hyperpop has kind of been on a decline but namasenda;s mixtape holds up pretty well

and queen jazmine :alexz:

Megan's mixtape was quite good, probably her best project over but it lacked the standouts that Suga and Good News had :giraffe:

Sunmi's was really cute as well :jonny5: Warning is better tho :fan:

Jazmine :clap3: I think she released the two best songs last year to its disadvantage but it's still a solid EP

I completely forgot about Tkay's EP! It was cute but yeah part 2 was better.

Bang had a couple of bops but like you say it was very faceless, once again reminding us that Rita Ora has no brand or direction, she's just a celeb who makes music on the side :gaycat6:

YAAAS at the Something for thee hotties and Heaux tales stanning :clap3: Both excellent projects!

XV. DIVISION - JENEVIEVE

Jenevieve: Division Album Review | Pitchfork

:turkey:

twitter is very underrated around here when it comes to

getting put onto music but one of my good mutuals introduced

me to the miami based queen known as jeneveive. division

on first listen is a really strong collection of dreamy, 90s

inspired r&b with lyrics full of rich imagery. i like me a vocalist

but i can also appreciate the soft, whisper-like coos that

come to define this album lbr i stan tinashe ofc i love the vocals

honestly, once spring comes around, play this album and sit out

in the sun (preferably in a park).

top tracks: medallion, resumé

genre: contemporary r&b

XIV. BLUE WEEKEND - WOLF ALICE

Wolf Alice: Blue Weekend Album Review | Pitchfork

:turkey:

i've heard bits and pieces of wolf alice's music thank you

charli  and i decided to get into this album, join the girls

in the discourse and get my life. i'm more than happy to

reveal that all three were accomplished.

when you hear the word "alternative", you either reluctantly

jump up and down inside or roll your eyes because you

can't even get into how complex #that conversation is.

now, when i hear it, this album comes up as one of the

better examples of a stellar alternative album in this

day and age. i thought that a lot of the songs would be

laid back but then the girls deliver that #ENERGY and get

me all together. i'm a sucker for atmospheric rock music

and wolf alice delivered just that

top tracks:  the last man on the earth, delicious things

genre: alternative rock, dream pop, indie rock

XIII. LOVE BLACK - BKTHERULA

Cover art for Love Black by Bktherula

:turkey:

another recommendation from a great mutual of mine

(thank you dami!) but i got into bktherula this year and i

don't regret it one bit.

she's definitely an acquired taste and by no means does

this project sit with her magnum opus, love santana

however, this album is packed with wonky, high energy

production that is reminiscent of rico nasy, lil uzi vert

and playboi carti. what makes bktherula interesting

is that back that she's just starting out and already is

covering so much ground with this album and her

discography over all.

top tracks: incredible, are we done

genre: trap, cloud rap, trap-punk(?)

XII. SOLAR POWER - LORDE

Cover art for Solar Power by Lorde

:turkey:

a lot of people did way too much on this record. is it as

epic as melodrama? no. but its a fairly strong body of

work from lorde and i find out something new about the

record every other week that makes solar power  all

the more appreciated.

i guess my issue with it is that lorde sounds better on

more dynamic, electro-pop production but her over

live instrumentation isn't half bad, especially when she

provides listeners with intriguing (somewhat dense at times)

lyrics.

maybe if lorde combines the two sounds and gives us

an imogen-lite record since ariana won't , more people

would enjoy it. but i say all this to really encourage some

of you to relisten to this album and give it a fair chance

because there are a good amount of gems here.

top tracks: big star, oceanic feeling

genre: folk-pop, indie-pop, psychedelic-pop

XI. STAND FOR MYSELF - YOLA

Cover art for Stand for Myself by Yola

:turkey:

who would have thought that an album based in country

and soul, explores disco and funk and sung by a british

woman would be one of my favorite records of the year.

i don't know about you but i'm very apprehensive when it

comes to country and i have lots of fun bashing britain

(love the music tho xx thanks for twigs and charli, etc.)

however, sitting in my bed listening to stand for myself proved

to be one of my favorite records this year.  a lot of the tracks

are colorful for lack of a better word which means a lot to

someone who see's country mainly in ugly shades of beige,

mustard yellows and dreary browns. it would be easy of me

to say she's like another kacey musgraves but that would also

be quite reductive. they definitely experiment with country but

the worlds they build couldn't be anymore different. they do exist

in the same solar system though.

so if you're in the mood for a warm, savory country-soul record, i

invite you to check out stand for myself.

top tracks: dancing away in tears, now you're here

genre: country-soul, pop-soul, countrypolitan :-*

AHHH the solar power praise :alexz:

blue weekend so good too
