Her best song without a doubt. It aged like fine wine and deserved to have DL’s success. It’s the perfect mix between pop and alternative. I fear it was too ahead of its time

 

 

 

      9. WILLOW f/ Travis Barker - transparent soul

Now THIS deserved to have Good 4 U’s success and I think it’s time we have that conversation. It sounds like a pop-rock song from the 2000s in the best way possible. The energy, the guitar, the long notes in the chorus, the bridge... TABS

 

 

 

8. Silk Sonic - Smokin Out The Window

This song is pure qualiTEA  The comedy in the verses is cute but it’s the chorus that still has me shook  It sounds like a classic on arrival. The melodies, the harmonies, the background vocals... By far the best song on the album 

 

 

 

7. Billie Eilish - Happier Than Ever

Now this wasn’t one of my most played songs of the year, but since my list also factors in quality I had to include it. Billie switched it up in the best way possible. The Edit of this is trash tbh. It needed the first part of the song to appreciate the shock of the 2nd half

 

 

 

            6. Marshmello & Jonas Brothers - Leave Before You Love Me 

The best song in each of these artist’s discography The way it stole from Last Christmas and still sounds amazing  It’s the type of throwback pop I love, and the chorus is just pure gold

Y’all can hate him all you want but this song is a BOP. On my first listenque I loved it. The chorus is so catchy and Giveon & Daniel gave the spice that the song needed

 

 

 

      4. Lil Nas X - MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) [Satan’s Extended Version]

Yes, I’m talking about the amazing extended version  Even though it’s only like 30 seconds longer, it just adds what the original lacks. The original is a perfect example of a song being less good to appeal for streaming. This is the perfect pop song. Hook after hook after hook. The 1-2-3 punch of the pre-chorus, chorus, and post chorus   .

 

 

 

3. Doja Cat - Need To Know

Ms. Cat snapped hard here. Her best solo song ever. The production is so crisp. Her singing, her rapping, her sultry moments... This was the obvious 2nd single choice

 

 

 

 

2. Doja Cat f/ SZA - Kiss Me More

Another perfect pop song  I was obsessed with this on first listen, and still love it now. Aged like fine wine. The intro is gorgeous, the double chorus is incredibly catchy (and the sample ), SZA’s verse ATE as usual. And when she adds her little ad libs and flare in the final chorus  The “oh darlinggg...” One of my most played songs of the year. I love it and would play it again, and again, and again, and again.

        1. SZA - Good Days

By far my post played song of the year, and also the best song if we’re talking about quality.  It came out at the perfect time. The world needed this song when it was released in December 2020. The lyrics are beautiful, the unconventional verses, the pre-chorus, the chorus with Jacob’s background vocals, the bridge, the uncertainty in the outro   SZA will never top this song, I fear. A timeless classique
