Because the media spent YEARS (most likely paid by her team) telling people they need to love her and that she’s already legendary and the new Beyoncé before she did anything to warrant that kind of praise.

and then Motivation happened and those terrible live performances where it was clear she didn’t care about actual promotion.

Well said. She got hyped up for no reason. Her floppings are so funny

Well, the song isn’t very good, for one. Bland songs + no real identity = no wonder Normani hasn’t really taken off. She’s talented as a performer for sure, but it doesn’t seem like she or anyone on her team has an ear for that hit that will get her where she’s obviously trying to get to. :michael:

I mean, just google “normani is the next beyonce” and you’ll literally see pages of news articles calling her an icon and the next legend over the span of the last 4 years. :rip:

and for what?

Janet’s first 2 albums were massive flops and didn’t find her sound until her 3rd so I don’t think she’s a good example about debut albums :skull:

And we need to get to the debut album first which is the problem with how a lot of these young acts are handled. Organic growth is never the target, just a bunch of failed lead singles and the record label holding them hostage until they smash...

It just sounds like this Board has a weird stigma against Normani compared to her peers. Watch that music video and she clearly has the talent - so it's not made up that people are rooting for her. she's a dark skinned black women - who dont usually have the same mainstream success as their peers. we should be uplifting her talent, not knocking her down (even if you dont feel shes the best voclaist).
