rl231 Posted May 5, 2021 Author Posted May 5, 2021 Here's how this will go down. The judges actually didn't provide averages this time around. Instead, we RANKED you all from 1-16, based on the entries we received. If you place in the top FIVE, you'll be SAFE from Tribal Council and will not be attending it. However, if you're not in the top 5, you're going to Tribal Council where one of you will be the 4th person voted out of this season. I will be revealing the comments by judge first and then will individually reveal if you placed in the top 5...or not. The final rankings will be posted at the end. After I reveal the rankings, I will post the final results which will include how you ranked against all castaways, and finally the overall rankings after this round. rl231 Posted May 5, 2021 Author Posted May 5, 2021 @Astro Spoiler Toni Braxton - Yesterday tbh, this bridge and onwards feels so dramatic sdksfk. it really gets the job done, but the way it feels dramatic kinda makes me scream. Taylor Swift - King of My Heart well. she's no cruel summer or dear john. or august. it works, i guess. just a bit disjointed. Taylor Swift - Dear John love me a diss track. taylor knew what she had to do with dear john and that was take no prisoners when it came to doing the bridge business. Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license the WHIPLASH this lorde lite song just gave me. you get this snoozefest cursive singing for everything before the bridge then lorde comes in and hits you in the face with a frying pan. i mean. really listening to it, it builds up to fall flat and doesn't really add to anything after its existence. there really shouldve been nothing after it unless it had an outro like say, supercut by lorde. idk, it just doesn't do it for me lol Dua Lipa - Physical YES. the bridge of this song elevates it like no other. this song feels so fast-paced and like it's life or death and the bridge ups the ante imo. it just adds so much to the song. i am a stan. Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer to me, this is a solid ass entry. top tier. and taylor's screams literally are the climax of the song. i do enjoy this, and definitely only this version since olivia managed to rip this off in deja vu. Rihanna - California King Bed rih sound like she boutta cry here. kind of a random but the bridge does definitely add to this. not the best of the entries, but not the worst at all. Katy Perry - Hot N Cold this bridge kinda came and went and i literally didnt notice. is that bad? i feel like thats bad. like sure, katy got that beat shift and all, but there was nothing unique about it and it didnt really add shite to the song. it couldve been removed and i dont think anyone would care. Radiohead - Paranoid Android okay, i was NOT expecting that switch up wtf. at first, i was kind of worried im ngl. it was just going on and wasnt really building up and that switch up gave me whiplash. i **** with that outro, yes maam!!! Taylor Swift - august august is such a pretty song. the bridge is soft, and emotional, and it packs a punch. also, if it wasnt classified as an outro, i think the outro wouldve made a great bridge too sdfkljf. it's just such a pretty track and the bridge really does elevate it. Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas well, it's definitely better than hot n cold by miles. i will say its a little jarring at first, but adds to the end of the song. the little build up at the end and the end of the song are decent together Janet Jackson - Nasty its janet, MISS JACKSON IF YA NASTY. SPILL IT JAN!!!!!! no but really, this doesnt have that OOMF like some of the other songs, but it is a great entry. too bad the outro is the outro. it knocks Lana del Rey - National Anthem i mean no disrespect, but this did the same for that hot n cold did, only worse. i like this song, its a great song. but the verses and the "bridge" don't differentiate. honestly, most of this song is the same pace and rhythm and it just falls so flat. Keyshia Cole - I Should Have Cheated you know what? you DESERVE to flop for this. how you gonna pick the second bridge as the standout when the first one literally makes this song THAT bitch. it elevates it. this second one is just... not needed. you deserve to flop for wasting this great song like this. P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason (feat. Nate Ruess) i mean. the song being overplayed as hell aside, this was... on point. i don't think it's as good as some of the other entries, however, they did the best they could on this song asdfsd. Lorde - Ribs oh we going depression? okay. i love ribs. i love the bridge of ribs because it builds right into that ending. it doesn't even hesitate to snatch the listener bald. @clue Spoiler Toni Braxton - Yesterday Come on $2 production. The bridge was also nothing special, just a super standard bridge. Taylor Swift - King of My Heart I get why you picked this. Personally it doesn’t do that much for me. Taylor Swift - Dear John Very long bridge, and I’m here for every single second of it. The drama is everything. Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license It’s very stadium sing-along. Impactful for sure. Dua Lipa - Physical This song is ABSOLUTELY punchy from start to finish. The bridge is definitely super strong, too. It takes you on a ride. Solid selection. Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer Exactly. Another sing-along classic. Rihanna - California King Bed Okay… I think we all remember BELTING this bridge. I’m so surprised this hasn’t been used before. Katy Perry - Hot N Cold I’m meh on this. It doesn’t feel special to me within the song. Radiohead - Paranoid Android Probably my least favorite section of the song. It drones on too long for me. Taylor Swift - august Definitely impactful and I think it’s pretty much everyone’s favorite part of the song. Admittedly, this isn’t one of my favorites on the album, but this is what immediately came to mind for me when I saw the round go up. So good job! Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas It’s flat for me. Janet Jackson - Nasty This would go in the Hall of Fame of bridges. Beyond iconic. Lana Del Rey - National Anthem My favorite part of the song. It’s very corny and like a part of what made everyone pan this album when it first came out, but it’s impactful. Keyshia Cole - I Should Have Cheated Where’s the bridge? Did I miss it? P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason (feat. Nate Ruess) Absolutely a highlight in the song. Very memorable Lorde - Ribs It’s cute. Not really punchy for me, I do like the “you’re the only friend I need” section, though. @thecptz Spoiler Toni Braxton - Yesterday Oh wow.. This is the classic bridge leading up to a peak kinda thing and it’s exactly what i want for this round to be honest. The song keeps building up and the bridge just makes the last chorus more explosive. It may not be solely because of the bridge but yea, it did the job. Taylor Swift - King of My Heart Yea its a great bridge.. Its just like taylor’s standard but i don’t know… it just doesn’t impact me as much as other taylor songs or many submissions for this round. I kinda wish it packed more welp. Taylor Swift - Dear John This is the best taylor entry this round let’s be real. I have never cared about this song before unlike others and now i understand why they love it so much. It has such an amazing bridge and the way it builds to the OH OHOHOHOHOHOHHHHHHHH and the last chorus is so good and it was done so well. So claps for that! Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license Despite feeling so tired about their love triangle, i have to say that the bridge here is SO good. The lorde influence, the cruel summer rip-off. She copied them well and that’s a compliment. I think it fell to the same category as just give me a reason. Amazing bridges but they don’t elevate the last part of the song. Dua Lipa - Physical This song is absolutely a cultural reset and no one can say otherwise. And the bridge is really godly like it makes me wanna go FERAL. I wanna scream and just lose my mind over it. That’s how good physical’s bridge is sobs and it builds to the last part of the song extremely well so BOOM. Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer Thinking about how this never been a single and it just makes me so sad. The swifties went wild when it was released and i mean we all can see why. The amazing bridge that leads to the last explosive chorus, yes and just how good this bridge is. HE LOOKS UP GRINNING LIKE A DEVIL WHEWWWWW! So gooood. Rihanna - California King Bed Wow i haven’t listened to this song for so long but one thing that i remembers is that it has such an amazing bridge that shows rihanna’s powerful vocal and leads to the last chorus very well. It’s just about that and how the bridge build its structure to reach the peak.. WOW. FERALLLL! Katy Perry - Hot N Cold Every time i listen to this song, i always think of masterchef australia (the best masterchef in the world) and i just giggle to myself. It’s cute.. Love the little switch moment and that’s it. It doesn’t really give me much opinions. Radiohead - Paranoid Android Well this is the interesting entry of the round for sure. I was waiting for the song to go somewhere and it kinda picked it up a bit before the bridge verse that you chose. I think it dragged on for too long and it disconnected from the last um part of the song? Yea.. Taylor Swift - august Whew i always love this song and the bridge itself is very beautiful but for the round’s brief, i don’t think that it builds to the like final peak of the song that much? It connects to the song well and its a great bridge but yea that’s just my thoughts. Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas This is absolutely better than hot n cold and it was structured in a classic bridge structure to be honest. I don’t have much to say but it’s a good bridge that took a tad bit long to reach to that peak. Janet Jackson - Nasty Yeah while i definitely enjoyed the bridge and ITS JANET MISS JACKSON IF UR NASTY part (so iconic) but it just fell short in term of the round’s brief that needs the bridge to elevate the last part of the song and i think WHO’S THAT THINKING NASTY THOUGHTS part is more impactful than the bridge itself really. Lana del Rey - National Anthem Personally, i think she has better bridges that lead to an explosive chorus for sure. This is okay? The bridge is cute but it really doesn’t do anything. It’s basically just there. Keyshia Cole - I Should Have Cheated I- i’m confused. Did you choose the right bridge? I don’t know. I really thought you submitted the first bridge and you did not so now i’m confused as hell. This second bridge really doesn’t do anything? Like oh my... it’s so underwhelming compared to the first bridge and i- well i’m just lost. P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason (feat. Nate Ruess) YUP. omg this song’s bridge is so good. The back and forth between pink and nate ruess just really adds everything to the song.. Everything that i didn’t know i needed before sobs. However, in this round, i kinda want the bridge to lead to an explosive last chorus but the last chorus is a little on the soft part. So yea, it has a great build in the bridge.. Its just sad that the last chorus fell a little flat. Lorde - Ribs So i need to be emotionally prepared when i listen to this song. It doesn’t have to anything with the round. I just feel the need to tell yall. This song just makes me want to go feral and cry at the same time and the bridge has a really BIG part in that. Its just the way that it goes.. Not too long but it slaps and hits and does everything to me and then BOOM goes straight to the last part of the song. Sobbing. The next 3 judges are up!
rl231 Posted May 5, 2021 Author Posted May 5, 2021 (edited) @supaspaz Spoiler Toni Braxton - Yesterday The song is already cranked so high on the intensity scale that the bridge doesn’t make too much of a difference, but it gets the job done. Taylor Swift - King of My Heart Stan the best song on Reputation. Her rap verse is unexceptional, but the vocodered line a nice small moment that makes the explosion in the final chorus pop. Taylor Swift - Dear John This bridge is practically its own song, there’s so much going on here. “I’m shining like fireworks OVER YOUR SAD EMPTY TOWNNNNEEEHHHHEEEEHHHOOOWWWN” is an iconic moment. Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license Poor Obsessed “Drivers License” Haters. The bridge is when this song officially becomes an anthem. Lorde Olivia Rodrigo did that. I still ****ing love it. Dua Lipa - Physical The song is such a relentless workout that you might barely notice the chorus bleed into the bridge. The stripped-down chorus with the handclaps follows it catches my attention far more. Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer There’s a way this bridge just keeps ratcheting up the tension of expectation until we finally get the release of the chorus that is very effective. Rihanna - California King Bed A classic bridge structure, with each stanza climbing half a step higher until it explodes into that belt. Extremely satisfying. Katy Perry - Hot N Cold This one has lost its punch over the years, hasn’t it? I love the change in melody on the bridge, but it doesn’t seem to fully take the song to another level. Radiohead - Paranoid Android Thom Yorke said, “Taylor, hold my beer.” This is certainly an unconventional choice and I’m struggling with how to assess it, because I wouldn’t necessarily classify it as a bridge. It’s substantial enough to be its own distinct movement within this rock symphony. And ultimately, it’s a long wind-up to that raucous finish, which is the real star here. But there’s something about it that grabs hold of you. Taylor Swift - august Another Taylor Swift song? Okay, we really need to expand these musical horizons. This one completely blends into the rest of the track. If you hadn’t given me the time codes, I’m not sure I would have picked it out as the bridge. Unremarkable. Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas The first half is such a strange and unexpected bit of pop songwriting, in a good way. You could probably cut it out and the bridge wouldn’t feel like it was missing anything. And yet, I’m going to bump up the ranking because it offers a moment that cuts through the noise. Janet Jackson - Nasty It’s all about that one line. But sometimes, that’s enough. Lana del Rey - National Anthem A real disappointment. I kept waiting for something to happen, but it just sort of peters out. The downshift into a whole other section before the final chorus undercuts it even further. Keyshia Cole - I Should Have Cheated I like how this gives Keyshia an opportunity to collect herself, to let the rage simmer for a moment before shifting back into overdrive for the finish. P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason (feat. Nate Ruess) I’ve always found this song so annoying. At least the bridge briefly gives it some heft, but everything around it falls flat. Lorde - Ribs The whole song is on this gradual ascent, so the bridge gives it the sudden turn that it needs to prepare us to drive it home. @Buddy! Spoiler Toni Braxton - Yesterday So dramatic fff. It’s good, I think it really hits the mark in terms of what we’re looking for. That build up is leads to a powerful final chorus. Taylor Swift - King of My Heart Ugh, what an album, what a SONG. In this instance it’s not the best but the way she leads up to that final chorus. WHEW. Nickidancing.gif Taylor Swift - Dear John This long ass bridge darling, Taylor said hol’ on I have TIME. “You’re an expert at sorry” Whew the way she dragged me. Jk miss thing. Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license I quite literally haven’t heard this song until now. I RIHFUSED but for the sake of being a good judge, impartial, etc whatever, I listened and as expected it’s ****. Thanks. Like this bitch literally sounds like she’s YELLING throughout the entire song?? Calm down. Dua Lipa - Physical Love me a beysic pop song!!! @jwowowowow how does that make you feel? This completely hits the mark. Like bullseye. Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer Ugh i’m clearly such a basic ****** but whew this hit. If there’s one thing miss tae lore is good at it’s hiring someone to write a great bridge for her Rihanna - California King Bed Oh yes this classic! The bridge really just does that, classic bridge set up, too. Katy Perry - Hot N Cold I mean, it’s cute. The entire song is pretty poppy so the bridge really adds nothing. Radiohead - Paranoid Android Girl this long ass bridge and for what? Taylor Swift - august Now look, I love this song, but I don’t think it’s that strong. Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas Truly don’t know why anyone would like to remind us of this shite. But with that being said, it’s cute for the round. Nothing spectacular, though. I think the bridge itself is fairly weak but the final chorus is there so congrats to that! Janet Jackson - Nasty Yup YUP. Lana del Rey - National Anthem @Buddy! Keyshia Cole - I Should Have Cheated See what you should have done was not submit this song. P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason (feat. Nate Ruess) @Buddy! Lorde - Ribs Yeah it really kinda gives it that last punch to hit it home. @Staryu Spoiler Toni Braxton - Yesterday I liked this bridge, it worked for me, Toni a messy queen. It made me think of boys @ stevie: I don’t love you, don’t need you, can’t stand you Taylor Swift - King of My Heart Kind of the lesser of the Taylor bridges here, it’s a bumpy bridge, it works but it’s kinda rough. Taylor Swift - Dear John I’m not a fan of super long songs but the way this bridge sets up the climax of the song really works well for me. Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license The bridge is the best part of this song, which isn’t saying much but it does create a nice little dramatic moment in the song Dua Lipa - Physical The build up, the hype, the adrenaline, the elevation, she has it all, perfect bridge, flawless song. Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer This is a good bridge, it is a little one note but I like the way it leads into the final chorus with her spazzy screaming. Rihanna - California King Bed I like this bridge, it builds up nicely, Rih is serving rockstar vocals. Katy Perry - Hot N Cold Not the most memorable bridge tbh, it’s cute but if it was removed from the song it wouldn’t be missed. Radiohead - Paranoid Android This bridge is a bit long but kind of epic? Love the switch up into the outro, it goes kinda crazy. Taylor Swift - august I love the bridge on this song, it is quite lovely and is like an ascension into heaven. Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas The bridge sets up the final chorus nicely, I like how she gets softer at the end, it’s a nice little build up. Janet Jackson - Nasty No my first name ain’t baby, it’s Janet, Miss Jackson if ya nasty is ICONIC, so I have to rank this bridge high just for that. It’s not as intricate or epic as some of the bridges here but it is iconic. Lana del Rey - National Anthem One of my favorite Lana songs but this bridge doesn’t do that many favors for the song really, there’s not really a big build up or epic climax. Keyshia Cole - I Should Have Cheated Girl the first bridge was better, the 2nd one kinda does nothing for me or the song, it kinda falls flat. P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason (feat. Nate Ruess) This bridge is cute, it builds up to the final chorus well enough, a cute little screech from P!nk at the end, it’s probably one of her best bridges at least. Lorde - Ribs The bridge kind of gathers my soul, it’s very short but sweet and takes us perfectly into the end of the song. Us hosts are last! Edited May 5, 2021 by rl231
rl231 Posted May 5, 2021 Author Posted May 5, 2021 @rl231 Spoiler Toni Braxton - Yesterday So I’ve never actually heard this song, and even though it exudes cheese, it works pretty well. It’s just a matter of how it’ll stand against everything else! Taylor Swift - King of My Heart Hmmmmmmmmm not a strong start to all the Taylor songs. It doesn’t really elevate us to that final chorus, and there’s stronger Taylor songs with their bridges, in general. Taylor Swift - Dear John So I have never actually heard this song before (I’ve seen it but never listened), but to my surprise - well, it’s Taylor Swift, maybe I shouldn’t be that surprised with the bridge at least - it’s pretty solid! The crescendo was pretty great to hear. Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license This song is hella overrated. HOWEVER, the bridge is the best part of the song. My main qualm is that it doesn’t really elevate to the final chorus. With these bridges, I’m expecting fireworks after them, but I also think it makes sense in the vein of the song too with how it’s structured. So it’s very very conflicting. Dua Lipa - Physical When I saw this come in, I already knew that we had a winner. And lo and behold, winner winner, chicken dinner! Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer Yeah, this hits really well for the round. The song has the tendency to be annoying if you listen multiple times, but it’s a really great entry for the round! Rihanna - California King Bed This song is just awesome honestly. The version with Jennifer Nettles is just *chef’s kiss* sublime. I think the bridge is your quintessential pop bridge, and it works so well here, so well done! Katy Perry - Hot N Cold It’s okay. I feel like there were bound to be better Katy Perry entries, and there are better songs presented here too. On top of that, the bridge isn’t really a part of the song that elevates...at all. Radiohead - Paranoid Android Maybe it’s because Radiohead can be in a similar vein as Queen without all their bombast, but I really enjoyed the bridge. The final chorus was deadass nuts. The bridge may have been a bit...long though; however, it was definitely enjoyable! Taylor Swift - august This song is very pretty. I think the bridge works really well, but does it fit what the round is asking for? I think I was wanting more in the final chorus to really take us to the finish. But the bridge itself? Super good. Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas Definitely better than Hot N Cold! It’s still not the best choice overall, mainly because it fails to really take us to a whole climax, except for the big note, but I still enjoy it. Janet Jackson - Nasty Oh wow, what a throwback. The outro is something hahaha. I think the entry is definitely interesting and really is different from the pack, but I wish the bridge was elevated more. Not bad though. Lana del Rey - National Anthem She’s really hypnotic in the bridge, and I think that works well in her favor. However, structurally, it’s not there because you go into another verse and then the final chorus. It would’ve worked better if there wasn’t the verse...for this round specifically. Keyshia Cole - I Should Have Cheated I had to look back at your entry again to see whether or not you submitted this bridge when I asked for the times. But...you did, and I’m not going to echo what the other judges said..............................but that. P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason (feat. Nate Ruess) I think the bridge works well for the round! My main beef with it is how there’s that period in the song RIGHT AFTER THE DAMN BRIDGE where it’s more lowkey. It should’ve just kept the same energy into the final chorus. Lorde - Ribs Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh sh*t! Great pick. It’s asking for everything we’re wanting here. @Element Spoiler Toni Braxton - Yesterday Overall, I liked this. It wasn’t necessarily the most breath-taking bridge that I’ve ever heard, but I think it successfully pulled the energy back and forth, building tension up until that final chorus. Taylor Swift - King of My Heart I think this bridge is kind of fun, but I don’t really believe it serves to elevate the track to its final chorus. There’s no connection. It’s just kind of there as a general switch up… a bit jarring actually. Taylor Swift - Dear John I actually thought this was a really strong submission. It balanced two essential components: it was a needed variation from the original melody that still flowed together with the overall atmosphere. The melody has a good ebb and flow, and keeps your attention until we arrive at the final chorus. Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license Definitely not surprised that this bridge was sent. It really had people shocked and amazed back when the song was released. I think it’s very successful in creating a climactic, unforgettable moment. You could definitely argue that it’s a bit TOO distinct from the rest of the song - but perhaps it works here? Dua Lipa - Physical Absolutely!!! This bridge hooked me instantly when I first heard it last year. It builds the passion and energy perfectly as we get into that explosive final chorus. She created something phenomenal... don’t you agree? x Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer This entry is solid! It fits in the song well and is a reasonable switch up without being jarring. I will say that my main criticism here is that it has a very high energy level the entire time and doesn’t master the rise and fall dynamic that I really love in a bridge. It’s all one color… but it’s definitely quite effective in getting us to that final chorus. Rihanna - California King Bed It’s not terrible, but it falls a bit flat overall. It definitely builds, but I wish it was a bit more dynamic than a straight crescendo. The song could survive without it. Katy Perry - Hot N Cold I definitely enjoy the melody of the bridge - it’s a lot of fun to sing along to! However, I don’t really think it accomplishes the goals of this round. It’s very quick from a lyrical perspective, and there isn’t really much of a buildup throughout. It kind of exists as a separate part of the song, failing to connect the second/final choruses. Radiohead - Paranoid Android A more avant garde entry! It was definitely interesting, but I didn’t feel as much of a connection to the rest of the song as I was hoping for. The length detracts a bit from the overall punch. Taylor Swift - august This bridge is very pretty. I think it doesn’t capture the listener as much as the other Taylor bridges, but it’s still a very solid choice. Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas I think this is a fun bridge melodically… it definitely has some tension/rise and fall… but it doesn’t bring me to the climax that I was expecting at the start. I kind of wish she kept the melody and vibe of the first half throughout. Janet Jackson - Nasty A very dynamic and iconic switch up! I don’t think it really works that well for this round’s requirements, where we were looking for a climax and a buildup to the ending. It’s a fun change, but kind of stands on its own. Lana del Rey - National Anthem At first, I was kind of enjoying the atmosphere of this bridge. It had a somewhat different energy than the rest of the song, while still maintaining consistency. As the bridge went on, however, I was waiting for a bigger buildup. It stayed very much the same throughout, and then, it didn’t go into a final chorus. It actually went back to another verse, which was quite underwhelming and ineffective. Keyshia Cole - I Should Have Cheated Definitely surprised that you didn’t pick the first bridge for your entry. That one is really solid and has almost everything we are looking for. The second one is pretty unmemorable overall and didn’t feel like we were building up to anything. P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason (feat. Nate Ruess) I completely forgot that this song has such a powerful bridge. This is a good choice overall. Similar to Cruel Summer, I wish it had a little bit more light and shade. I would argue that it’s successful due to the alternating voices. Great tension and climax. Lorde - Ribs I’ve never paid attention to how strangely this song is structured before. The chorus feels like it could be a bridge at one point, as it has an element of tension and drama that I enjoy. The actual bridge that you’ve sent is also a very strong submission. The pulsating instrumental really brings it to the next level. It’s chaotically beautiful. I wish the climax had a bit more of a punch, but I think it does a great job connecting the rest of the song to the ending. NOW, we'll reveal who is in the top 5, and who is not!
