Some year-end positions I've recently added to Janet’s wikipedia pages that were missing before. I'm trying to slowly fill gaps and fix some errors (there's a lot :rip:) in my spare time. :gaynetcat2:

Control (album) - European Albums - 87 (1987)

Control (single) - The Netherlands - 97 (1986)

Rhythm Nation (album) - Canada - 53 (1989)

Because of Love - Canada - 70 (1994)

Design of a Decade - European Albums - 69 (1995)

Design of a Decade - Canada - 86 (1996)

The Velvet Rope - Sweden - 73 (1997)

The Velvet Rope - Denmark - 9 (1998)

Also @allforyou you can add:

Control

Australia - Gold

https://www.julienslive.com/lot-details/index/catalog/378/lot/154513?uact=5&aid=378&lid=154515&current_page=0

Gold back in 1987 was 50,000 copies.

Also thought I'd share some interesting Canadian stats recently added by someone else. :gaynetcat3:

Canada

All For You (single) - #12 single of 2001 (airplay)

All For You (single) - #42 and #195 single of 2001 (sales)

Someone To Call My Lover - #20 single of 2001 (airplay)

Someone To Call My Lover - #76 single of 2001 (sales)

Feel It Boy - #121 single of 2002 (sales)

All For You (album) - #27 album of 2001

All For You (album) - #8 R&B album of 2001

All For You (album) - #70 R&B album of 2002

Here I found sales figures for the album! All For You scanned 209,495 copies in Canada during 2001 according to SoundScan.

https://web.archive.org/web/20021122000500/http://www.jamshowbiz.com/JamMusicCharts/2001_r&b.html

It was certified 3x Platinum (300,000) in January 2002.

Also check out this is decade-end list for the 1990s

#27 That's The Way Love Goes

#70 Runaway

#91 If

https://web.archive.org/web/20000829070927/http://www.jamshowbiz.com/JamMusicCharts/100_1990.html

Those three songs all topped The Record's Canadian sales chart (the top 10 was published weekly in Billboard magazine). Single sales in the 90s were low in Canada and most songs were not released physically but the few Janet singles that were, charted for months and months.

Using the decade-end data, it appears:

That's The Way Love Goes - #3 single of 1993 (sales)

If - #15 single of 1993 (sales)

Runaway - #8 single of 1995 (sales)

Compared with the other official chart published by RPM:

That's The Way Love Goes - #3 single of 1993 (airplay)

If - #25 single of 1993 (airplay)

Runaway - #32 single of 1995 (airplay)

Top Singles of All-Time in Canada (June 1975-August 1999)

#46 That's The Way Love Goes - 6 weeks at #1, 38 weeks in the Top 40 :rip:

Seems to be ranked by weeks at #1? :skull: Really messy list but still cool.

Something I noticed with the latest updates was that under the "Type" category on the RIAA website, only Escapade, All For You, Feedback and Nasty were listed as "Digital" while all the other platinum singles were listed as "Standard".

According to RIAA, digital singles are downloads + streams while standard appears to be physical and how many was shipped/bought.

This could possibly mean the 4 singles listed under the digital type category had enough digital downloads + streams alone to be certified platinum with RIAA, and that's not including the physical sales for 3 of the 4 singles! (There was no commercial physical release of Feedback in the US AFAIK).

You could be onto something but the those categories have always confused me so much :deadbanana2: I'm just glad they finally updated some of her singles, now they need to update:

Let's Wait Awhile - Gold.

Diamonds - Gold.

The Pleasure Principle - Gold.

Come Back to Me - Gold.

The Best Things in Life are Free - Gold.

Runaway - Platinum.

Someone to Call My Lover - Gold.

and all of her singles will be updated!

Can't remember if I posted this in this thread or not but I remembered and found an old 2010 thread on australian-charts.com forums relating to the top 1000 singles artists in Australia's ARIA charts (from 1980-2009), and when posted at the time Janet was ranked #19 overall and #9 for solo female artists.

https://australian-charts.com/forum.asp?todo=viewthread&id=33235&pages=

Obviously this list is very outdated given it was made a few years before streaming was incorporated into the Australian music charts. What makes it interesting however is that the list included a "Points" column which showed an "estimated" sales amount for the singles listed in the table charts. If the user who did this ranking back then (chri8topher) is reliable, then these would be the supposed sales figures for Janet's singles in Australia at the start of the 2010's decade.

Janet Jackson's Top 30 Year HP Points
1 Together Again ▲ 1997 #4 129,267
2 The Best Things In Life Are Free ▲ (with Luther Vandross) 1992 #2 127,810*
3 That's The Way Love Goes ▲ 1993 #1 126,228
4 Runaway ● 1995 #8 62482
5 All For You ▲ 2001 #5 53,315
6 Black Cat 1990 #6 52,245
7 Scream ● (with Michael Jackson) 1995 #2 51,425*
8 What Have You Done For Me Lately 1986 #6 40,279
9 Got 'Til It's Gone ● 1997 #10 39,327
10 Again 1993 #18 33,111
11 Miss You Much 1989 #12 32,630
12 Love Will Never Do (Without You) 1990 #14 31373
13 If 1993 #18 29,816
14 You Want This 1994 #16 28,221
15 Someone To Call My Lover 2001 #15 24,786
16 Song Of A Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You) 2001 #20 22,285
17 Let's Wait Awhile 1987 #21 21,231
18 Nasty 1986 #17 19,053
19 What'll I Do 1995 #14 17,415
20 Escapade 1990 #25 17,172
21 All Nite (Don't Stop) 2004 #24 16,845
22 Just A Little While 2004 #20 14,152
23 I Get Lonely 1998 #21 12,388
24 Because Of Love 1994 #25 10,705
25 Twenty Foreplay 1996 #29 7,434
26 Go Deep 1998 #39 6,858
27 Doesn't Really Matter 2000 #28 6,547
28 Any Time, Any Place 1994 #37 6,529
29 When I Think Of You 1986 #53 4,065
30 Feedback 2008 #50 3,897

If we were to take these supposed numbers and factor in streaming equivalent sales and whatever small digital download catalogue sales Janet would've gotten from 2010-current day in Australia, then these would be my estimates for what her updated Australian ARIA certifications could be:

Keep in mind ARIA Charts Accreditation/Certification thresholds are as follows:

Gold = 35,000 units sold/shipped

Platinum = 70,000 units sold/shipped

Diamond = 500,000 units sold/shipped

And they use the streaming formula below to establish streaming equivalent sales.

Streaming Ratio Sales = 1:175 (175 streams equals 1 sale)

Together Again - last certified Platinum in January 1998, very likely eligible for 2x Platinum for sales of over 140k.

The Best Things In Life Are Free - last certified Platinum in 1992, close to 2x Platinum but not likely eligible yet due to its absence on streaming platforms for many years before it was made available again recently, which put it at a disadvantage.

That's The Way Love Goes - last certified Platinum in 1993, very likely eligible for 2x Platinum for sales of over 140k.

Runaway - last certified Gold in 1995, close to Platinum certification but not quite there yet due to low streams.

All For You - last certified Platinum in May 2001, still likely to remain Platinum only due to supposed actual sales that was 53k in 2010 according to table chart above, but current estimate sales probably over 70k.

Black Cat - last certified Gold in 1991, still likely to remain Gold only due to low streams.

Scream - last certified Gold in 1995, likely eligible for Platinum certification due to high streams.

What Have You Done For Me Lately - not certified at all, eligible for Gold certification according to 2010 sales figure from table chart above.

Got 'Til It's Gone - last certified Gold in November 1997, very likely eligible for Platinum certification due to high streams.

Again - not certified at all, very likely eligible for Gold certification due to enough streams to push it over 35k.

Miss You Much - not certified at all, very likely eligible for Gold certification due to enough streams to push it over 35k.

Love Will Never Do (Without You) - not certified at all, could be close to Gold certification but not quite there yet due to low streams.

If - not certified at all, likely eligible for Gold certification due to enough streams to push it over 35k.

Number of possible new Platinum certifications: 4

Number of possible new Gold certifications: 4

New US numbers from HitsDailyDouble:

20 Y.O. entered the Black albums chart at the top on the strength of 1.5 million copies sold. (Referring to Damita Jo)

In the end, 20 Y.O. was nominated for the Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album and moved a relatively scant million copies.

Overall, Discipline delivered artistically. But in the marketplace it's only done a bit over 600k ATD (456k in pure sales).

Unbreakable: With 384k ATD, it is the weakest-performing album of Jackson’s career. (Not counting the mixtapes?) In terms of the music, though, it stands up to anything she’s ever released.

Worldwide numbers:

Damita Jo, Janet’s eighth studio album, released the month after the halftime show heard ’round the world, was her first to drop after the incident. It sold 3 million units―this from a global superstar whose Rhythm Nation had moved north of 12 million, with a record-breaking seven Top 5 singles.

Damita Jo earned two Grammy nominations, for Best Contemporary R&B Album and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “I Want You,” and “I Want You” was ultimately certified platinum. But the set’s relative absence on the airwaves in 2004, along with dismal chart positions, lent it an air of failure. In fact, Damita Jo sold more than five million fewer copies than Jackson’s previous long-player, 2001’s All for You. (Putting All For You at 8 million worldwide)

Resurrecting this thread as we finally have a new certification for Janet's music internationally.

Call On Me has been certified Gold in Brazil by official certification body Pro-Musica Brasil, with 20,000 units moved (for international singles) (4M equivalent audio streams or 20M equivalent video streams).

Great news but in a way, it's infuriating to know this single could've been certified gold quicker many years ago had the official music video upload on her VEVO youtube channel been unblocked and made available worldwide for over a decade, so the video streaming views mainly coming from Brazil all this time could count. I think it was blocked in Brazil along with many other countries until late 2022, when Janet's team and UMG finally worked together to properly fix her youtube channel. It was previously only available to view for 10 countries and I don't think Brazil was on that list. This single could've been certified platinum or double platinum by now!

Thats good news! Hopefully we see more recertification of her work soon. She is criminally undercertified everywhere!
