sksksk girl it's not a meme it's TRUE Gupi is Tony Hawk's son! And he was one of my favorite new/breakthrough artists this year. Good pick for him.

Perfume Genius, yeah I have no idea why this seems to be his most popular release? Honestly of the 3 albums of his I've listened to the 2017 album was the only one that I ever replayed.

People I've Been Sad, that was an experimental record that will surpass time and maybe it was too ahead of its time for certain people (jk mainly the part about how it will surpass time, loving the critical acclaim it's getting).

nice batch, kerosene and describe are my favorites here and i loved their respective albums :keir:  lockdown and ppl ive been sad were on rotation for a bit, but they're not as grabbing as their best material

same on the latter part, though I will say Lockdown is one of the better protest theme songs of the year.

I was just being facetious with the Tony Hawk mention. I know. Slip Away is still Perfume's best song so at least he has that.

How do you not at least know Spotlight By Jessie Ware? Especially when she's been spammed all throughout the section :deadbanana2:

Eh, let me just get this out the way now. Last update for songs~

10. Plastician & Juche - eNight Revisited (Future Garage)

a1624622368_10.jpg

One of my prime night-time driving tracks. Up there with Burial for me in the levels of atmosphere setting.

9. Morgan Wallen - 7 Summers (Country Pop, Contemporary Country)

Morgan_Wallen_-_7_Summers.png

My favorite contemporary country musician and evidence that The Voice > all the other recent singing competitions. While this isn't really something I typically discuss, Morgan has one of the more emotive voices in modern country. 7 Summers was released around late summer but the sound is still pretty fitting. Fun fact, Chasin' You was my SOTY for 2019.

8. Capaxxo - Perfect (Euro-Trance)

8136834

Trance revival > Disco revival :katie2:

7. Yukika - Soul Lady (K-Pop, Dance-Pop, City Pop)

71wlO7lRmBL._AC_SL1000_.jpg

City Pop fusion is one of my weaknesses in K-Pop. Taking a step further than Yubin's Lady, Yukika estbablished herself as a competent artist who's able to back the quality up with a full length as well. The title track never fails to bring joy~

6. Sematary & Ghost Mountain - Deer God (Trap, Horrorcore, Witch House)

fc025e79e99ffeaf87c0fac9563cfb10.600x600x1.jpg

DDD-DJ SORROW TURN THE **** UP!!!!!

One of the most chaotic, quotable and hypefest songs around. It 100% nails the occult forest theme it goes for.

5. A.G COOK - IDYLL (Progressive Electronic)

7g_a.%20g.%20cook.jpeg

A special statement influenced by Laurie Anderson's O Superman. And Caroline Palochek uses Auto-Tune the way Bob Dylan used his harmonica — for punctuation, for atmosphere, for an alienatingly weird sound effect. It's a blast of vocal distortion, harsh on the surface, but expressive, capable of sounding wildly funny or abrasively pissed-off or seductive.

4. The Weeknd - After Hours (Alternative R&B, Synthpop)

The_Weeknd_-_After_Hours.png

While not my absolute favorite on the album (Blinding lights outsold but that's 2019 hehe) it's still a treat. The Weeknd has done his fair share of long songs in the past (Gone, Kiss Land etc) but none of those are as... cinematic as the title track of After Hours. A 6 minute track with multiple steps that makes time feel like it's half as much is a feat.

3. Dua Lipa - Physical (Dance-Pop, Synthpop)

Dua_Lipa_-_Physical.png

Love at first sight

80s revivalism will always be alright in my book cuz it's a truly timeless era imo.

2. Charli XCX - Visions (Bubblegum Bass, Euro-Trance)

e982a3c576e88fd122b3eb604adcae2c.1000x1000x1.png

I remember the first time I listened to a snippet of Visions that Charli posted on instagram and I knew the moment the drop occurred that it was going to be my pick. The full version definitely didn't disappoint. My adoration for trance has grown even moreso over the past couple of years so to see Charli utilize it was a blessing for me. Even the Live At Appleville version is fantastic and honestly both are about equal importance to me.

1. Bad Bunny ft Ñengo Flow & Jowell y Randy - Safaera (Neoperreo, Latin Electronic)

Bad_Bunny_-_Yhlqmdlg.png

The most surprising song i've heard while listening to an album this year. Didn't see it coming during the initial listening session. I had to digest and study this track off the layers alone. I have to thank this song for exposing me to Jowell y Randy because I love their energy. Reggaeton was never a favorite or passion for me but the past couple of years have changed my view towards it for the better.  Safaera is one of the kind of songs you play ad-infinitum and discover  new favorite thing about it and for me those kind doesn't come often. This song (and album all together) is the definition of an event.

Who noticed registration opened back up?

The top 10 more or less captures my year as well. Flawless top 3, any of them can be SOTY tbh. I used the too late/hardest to love run a little more I think. Soul lady was on constant rotation for a while. 7 summers is interesting, really enjoy the lush production. Still need to take a little more time with country me thinks.

7 Summers

Here for the Physical love! Truly a stellar song as is the album

Physical and After Hours :clap3:

Oh, 7 Summers is amazing too! Great top ten.

thought the same about perfume genius tbh. it’s a good album but didn’t click with me like no shape did

people i’ve been sad, quarantine anthem :clap3:

ahhhhh love to see Soul Lady so high :smitten: Yukika DELIVERED this year, I think Neon is still my fave from her tho

After Hours was really good, probs not my fave on the album either but I really like it :jamming:

Physical is good but kinda overrated, visions sounds like rave music to me and the Bad Bunny song, well I'm not into reggaeton

alright.  yes.  YES.

safeera and visions are the right pick for those artists and they are both p high up on my lists.  glad to see someone go w visions instead of... claws or worse, detonate.

physical an after hours are great picks but not my fave from the albums.  i see you are a disco revival hater, but honestly, i get it.  nu disco is something i have to tread lightly with.  i thought the girls handled it well for the most part.

this capoxxo song,  yeah i like it.  same vibe as gupi.

and re: the m.i.a. comment.  i DO stan.  i think i even made a thread here stanning, but idk what happened, guess it just wasn't easily accessible for me for so long that it just didn't rack up a lot of listens.

After Hours title track :clap3:

Physical is such a pop perfection

omg, I love some Charli acclaim :jonny: Visions is amazing

Switch the places of 2 & 1.

A country BETCH in your top 10 and I don't know them?! Added to my list to check out immediately.

Soul Lady, song AND album, are flawless. I only listened to that 7G album(s) once because it's so ****ing long but I'm sure your highlight was one of mine too.

Yeah After Hours is awesome. I underrate it myself honestly. Great decision to place it towards the end too, but not QUITE as the last song. Physical  Me and my bf's song.

Visions and Safaera are EVENTS. MOMENTS. Amazing top 2 :clap3:

Posted

Ah of course love multiple obvious tracks here :clap3:

I'd argue that there are more cinematic tracks on Kiss Land (such an underrated album) like Professional or Belong to the World, but maybe they are a bit overproduced. AH title track definitely eliminates this issue, absolutely love it and I think it even surpasses BL for me, but they are an obvious Top 2 of the album.

Posted

Nice top 10, yeah After Hours is dope even though I didn't revisit the album as a whole much.

Posted

This a very Claw-certified top 5 so nicely done sir. Some surprises and unknowns (to me), so brb. I dig the chopper song from the previous set, though. :jamming:

Posted

Physical :clap3:

Posted

Morgan Wallen

That song is cute just not really my style I guess.

Physical and After Hours (song) are great :clap3:

Too bad People I've Been Sad didn't make it though :noparty:

Nnn "Sour Candy" is far from a hymm. :sorry:  (I'm late I know)
