shelven Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 Halsey - Now Or Never An excellent lead single Ashley really did THAT with this song and the entire album. Nicki Minaj - Your Love I remember liking this more than I currently do listening to it now It's kinda cute though, some of you are doing too much. Chloe x Halle - Cool People ChloeXHalle's music normally isn't my cup of tea based on what I've heard from them, but I really like this. Very soothing and beautiful. Shawn Mendes - Mercy I guess this isn't the worst Shawn single, but like... that's not saying much. Sia - Alive This song is criminally underrated. Her vocals and the production are both excellent. Deserved to smash. Charli XCX - Gone WaiT a minute, I thought I didn't like Charli, but this is a massive bop. The production Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend Whew, a CLASSIC! This is always such a fun song to listen to. Kesha - C'Mon This is honestly probably my least favourite Kesha single Always annoyed me for some reason. Florence + The Machine - Queen Of Peace Another beautiful and quality Florence song. Not one of my personal favourites from her, but her entire discography is excellent, so Lana Del Rey - Love One of the best songs of the 2010s, PERIOD.
Evy Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 z. Halsey - Now Or Never She definitely has better songs but it is nice overall and luckily the autotune doesn't bother me to much here. y. Nicki Minaj - Your Love It could be fairly cute but the autotune is a pretty huge turn-off for me, the verses are actually nice but the bridge and the chorus, especially the repetition of "your love" drags the song down for me. x. ChloeXHalle - Cool People A really cute ballad, the 2nd half of the song really got me. The song gives me a very nostalgic feeling and I'm a sucker for that. w. Shawn Mendes - Mercy I am fairly neutral to shawn, I don't care much for his music but I don't hate it either. v. Sia - Alive I usually like Sia, sometimes she overdoes it a bit with her voice and so in this case but it's still pretty solid and I enjoyed it. She also needs ha grammy. u. Charli XCX - Gone I like charli and her retrovibe songs, this one is not bad aswell altho I am not in love with it as much as I am with some of her other songs. t. Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend I dind't expect it to rank this as high as I did, since it is mostly a guilty pleasure song but ye it still is a lot of fun lol. s. Kesha - C'mon Early 2010s Kesha is unfortunaly not my gig at all, in fact she is probably one of the reasons why I lost interest in pop around that time. I am rooting for her these days and like some of her newer songs but ye this one is a pass for me. r. Florence + The Machine - Queen of Peace I don't think I ever heard a florence song so far I didn't like? I love her theatrical voice and this song makes me realize I probably should check out her discography more. q. Lana Del Rey - Love Lana is talented legend and this is one of her best songs. I obviously tried to send this myself in but you were faster
touya kinomoto Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 TOUYA'S CRITIQUES GROUP 1 Spoiler A. Jordin Sparks - No Air *insert Mariah Carey that was a classic.gif* lol srsly this is a classic. I mean, Chris Brown doesn't deserve to have any classics but he and Jordin did what they had to do with this song. Speezy will be proud of whoever sent this song. B. Avril Lavigne - Rock n Roll I... I really don't know what to say about this. I mean, I kinda like it because it has the Avril flavor but it sounds dated. Like it could fit any Avril album from the 2000s. C. Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel The talentry jumped OUT! This is so so so gooood. Prince must be very proud. D. Carly Rae Jepsen - Julien The opener to a very magnificent album. **** the gays who don't get this song. This is an album highlight and this sounds much better live. E. Iggy Azalea - Fancy A guilty pleasure and a good one at that. F. SZA - Love Galore This is great song whew! However, Travis Scott is not needed here. G. Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You I like the song, let's get that out of the way. Objectively speaking, this is not a bad song but this is nothing very special about it too. Add the fact that it feels like Carly just wrote this song as an attempt to recreate the success of her monster hit from her breakthrough era. However, you cannot make a "Call Me Maybe" by redoing "Call Me Maybe". H. Katy Perry - Never Really Over YAAAAAAAAAAAAS! My most played song of 2019 and of the last decade according to Spotify. This is the first Katy Perry single since Teenage Dream (the song) that I stanned so hard. Like, I like almost all her singles (and also despised other singles because they were choices) but this was her first singles in years that I really fell so in love with. Her lyrics were definitely not as cringey as most of her post-TD songs and Zedd's production worked (!!!) this time. It is a very solid comeback from my fave and if her next album will be filled with songs as great as this, I will be a very contented Kat. I. Lana Del Rey - Norman ****ing Rockwell! I will make this very short. This should have won SOTY last weekend but the Recording Academy is not yet ready to have that conversation. That opening line >>>>>>> discographies J. Kesha - Praying Back in 2018, I was actually prepared to accept that Kesha would win a Grammy first before Katy. But Ed had to win over Kesha (TWICE!!!). Like it was one of the biggest robberies of that night alongside the travesty of GF wins by Bruno Mars and Alessia Cara. Anyhow, this is how you make a comeback. You make a statement. Simple production but the fact that her lyrics worked to evoke emotions... ugh, loves it. GROUP 2 Spoiler Z. Halsey - Now Or Never Oh okay. I mean, it's kinda boring but inoffensive. It's alright. Y. Nicki Minaj - Your Love Honestly, this is the first time I have heard this song and I actually love the production. Reminds me of some late 90 - early 00s songs. Tbh the first thought that came to me was ironically Mariah and that the production could have made TEOM sksksk. The verses are okay but the production really won me over. X. Chloe x Halle - Cool People #MyLittleMermaid This Shangela tribute is actually a pretty song. Started out almost boring but it got better as it progressed. W. Shawn Mendes - Mercy Spoiler Spoiler no but srsly this was okay. there are worse entry in the group and in the round as a whole. the production (except in the first part of the bridge) is the most interesting part of the song. V. Sia - Alive Okay sis we get it. You have awesome pipes. We already learned it from "Chandelier". You don't need to shout at our ears. No but srsly, this is like the case with Carly Rae and "I Really Like You". Like "I Really Like You", it is not a bad song but it feels like this is copied out of the same formula as "Chandelier" and that makes it less... likeable for me. U. Charli XCX - Gone 2019 gave us some of the best pop songs of the decade and this is one of those song godly songs. We love this 2020 ATRL Grammy winning song. T. Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend I hate this song since its release. It also aged like milk. I'll just leave it at that. S. Kesha - C'mon I honestly forgot how this song sounded but it is nice to be reminded of this carefree fun bop. I agree with one comment that said Warrior deserved Animal's success. P.S.: I remember the cuteness overload that is this song's official lyric video. R. Florence + The Machine - Queen of Peace Queen of Peace? More like Queen of Masterpiece and Vocals. I thought Hunger wouldn't be topped. I mean, it's not hard since Florence + the Machine has served countless of wonderful songs. This one is no exception. Q. Lana Del Rey - Love Honestly, I was not a big fan when this came out. But looking back and listening to this song again, I am FORCED to repent and admit the greatness of this masterpiece. However, I still love the other Lana song more and I am not sorry. smholiv Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 Z. Halsey - Now Or Never Very redundant, much like a lot of Halsey's recent work. Y. Nicki Minaj - Your Love Not my favourite from her by any means but I guess its one of the few that fit. It's just.. there. X. Chloe x Halle - Cool People Cute song. They don't blow me away as artists but I like them. W. Shawn Mendes - Mercy If it isn't his forced "nice guy" persona (that has a million problems associated with it) or his tepid, useless lyricism, its his incredible whiny voice. V. Sia - Alive I just can't get into this kind of vocal delivery. U. Charli XCX - Gone Not a fan but its sort of middle of the pack in this batch. T. Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend Annoying S. Kesha - C'mon Kind of a perfect pop song in a lot of ways! R. Florence + The Machine - Queen of Peace I'm not a huge Florence fan but I don't dislike her. Q. Lana Del Rey - Love I love the feel of this song so much.
ATRL Moderator Element Posted January 29, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted January 29, 2020 a. Jordin Sparks - No Air - this is a classic ugh. i remember being so excited as a little 12 year old gay when this was about to come out b. Avril Lavigne - Rock n Roll - it's not a bad song but it's pretty forgettable in avril's discography and in this grouping c. Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel - janelle absolutely SLAYED with this song and the visuals. insane that she doesn't have a grammy d. Carly Rae Jepsen - Julien - it's cute but it doesn't really do too much for me. e. Iggy Azalea - Fancy - wow this already feels a bit dated, huh? it still has some iconic lyrics and moments so i think it was a decent enough choice here f. SZA - Love Galore - i listened to this a few times to try and absorb it... it's not bad by any means but it just never gets off the ground for me g. Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You - kind of annoying but kind of a bop? h. Katy Perry - Never Really Over - such a great single ugh. one of my most played of 2019. i can't believe that she messed up her mini-comeback immediately after!!! i. Lana Del Rey - Norman ****ing Rockwell! - normally i'm not into lana bc she puts me to sleep but this is actually a really beautiful and clever song j. Kesha - Praying - that high note in the bridge whew
MusicLoverDude Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 A. Jordin Sparks - No Air Back when Chris was likable. This song doesn't hit the same though 12 years later however. Aged like milk B. Avril Lavigne - Rock N Roll I tried to get this and you beat me to it. Good song. Her best uptempo of the 2010s. C. Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel This is ok but the hype for this makes the song more underwhelming and I'm not really slayed or anything. D. Carly Rae Jepsen - Julien In Carly's defense, Navyofbadgals basically made it to where all of her best singles had banned letters in them. You can't exactly blame the people who sent this and IRLY (or the Avril song) for why they sent it when they had little to work with. This was an album highlight on Dedicated and it is a grower. E. Iggy Azalea - Fancy Good choice. The song still knocks. F. SZA - Love Galore The constant usage of the N word is a huge no for me. I'm white - I don't need that word showing up in my library. Please send the clean version next time. The production kind of saved it. G. Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You Good song. Nothing can change that. Very addictive. H. Katy Perry - Never Really Over Glad you went with this and not Roar. Her best single since Dark Horse. I. Lana Del Rey - Norman ****ing Rockwell. Nope. Boring and overrated. Billie rightfully won over her. If you want to change my mind otherwise you should have found a different Lana song. Worst of the round by far. J. Kesha - Praying And this was the other song I tried to get and didn't. Easily best of the round.
Psycho Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 a. Jordin Sparks - No Air This has aged and Chris Brown gets no love from me. b. Avril Lavigne - Rock n Roll One of her weaker singles imo c. Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel A jam. d. Carly Rae Jepsen - Julien I am loving all the disco influenced songs lately, this one included e. Iggy Azalea - Fancy A bop, but aged f. SZA - Love Galore Cute g. Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You This is pop perfection h. Katy Perry - Never Really Over This is pop perfection [2] i. Lana Del Rey - Norman ****ing Rockwell! A great intro but a little overhyped I fear, The Greatest & MAC > j. Kesha - Praying Whew a moment most pleasing to me in her career...

Navyofbadgals Posted January 29, 2020 Author Posted January 29, 2020 @prézli CRITIQUES GROUP 1 Quote Jordin Sparks - No Air - This is so 2000s and we love that decade's music. It has aged, but it's still haunting. Avril Lavigne - Rock n Roll - I don't mind it. This song is better than the most of her songs from the last decade, so I take it. Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel - I find Janelle Monae unoriginal. I don't see any personality in her. The chorus is so similar to Michael Jackson's Make Me Feel; the same way as she says the same words... Carly Rae Jepsen - Julien - Dedicated was kind of disappointing, but this track could have been on EMOTION. Very good. Iggy Azalea - Fancy - It aged like milk, to be honest. Maybe Charli's part is a little wine-y, but milk & wine mixed up together hurts my stomach. SZA - Love Galore - It's alright. It's not outstanding or anything, but is enough to keep you in the game. Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You - A choice. I mean, um, really? Literally the worst song on the album. Katy Perry - Never Really Over - A cute, radio-friendly bop. Nothing else. Lana Del Rey - Norman ****ing Rockwell! - Lana's style is not my type of taste, but I appreciate her musical vision. Kesha - Praying - When I heard this song at first, I was disappointed because the lyric is so basic. As time went by, I started recognizing its values. In the hell. Sia - Alive - Amazing instrumentation, amazing vocals. Why didn't it win a Grammy? Charli XCX - Gone - Another album I was disappointed in. But this song is heavenly. Wish future pop was just like this. Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend - Should I stan for the song that ended rock music in the mainstream area? I don't think so. Kesha - C'mon - Warrior is my favorite album by her and this song is freaking underrated. Thanks for sending. Florence + The Machine - Queen of Peace - The album was not good, but this song is captivating. Lana Del Rey - Love - Lana's style is not my type of taste, but I appreciate her musical vision.
